so 4nt non vuln against vuln is not a good bid? -
Given the power of computers these days, would it not be possible to create a system that is the ultimate system You could compare each opening bid against every combination of opener possible and each subsquent bid or pass etc etc and just work out against every concievable hand possible, for the best system just working with the stats from hand types would be able to give you a system that should be workable i.e. 5 spades and 11- 17 hcp 52,000 instances out of all total combinations 5 spades and 11 - 16 hcp 39,000 instances If I have not made myself clear, someone else can elaborate for me LOL :)

If this is the case, do they have to provide an proper defence against it?

Says who? When you are 1 point outside your announced range you get to use judgment, when you are 2 or more outside you don't? That is the claim you are making? I see no problem at all with the 5 point range rule (a stupid rule to begin with.) 12 is not in the range, any more than 14 is in the range of someone who opens Jx Axx AKQxx Txx with 1NT. I dont quite understand the logic here, why not alert it as 10 - 23 hcp range and unbalanced I may not understand the 5 point rule either

I have a question about morality or ethics, you decide how to catorgorise it A man watches another man gets stabbed in the street the assailant runs away, the man watches the other man die slowly, this takes over an hour, he does not call for help (the only reason for doing this is he did not like that man) A father is in hospital his daughter is critical and has lost a lot of blood, the surgeon says she needs a blood transfussion or she will die, the man sits next to his daughter and watches her die, it takes 4 hours he refused to allow a transfusion to take place The girl was brought up by her religious parents and was brainwashed into being a Jehovahs witness, she used to go out and do things that were done by people not of that faith as she had to try an appear dedicated to her faith or she would be ostricised (this is quite common for a lot of religions I believe, I certainly have experienced this on numerous occasions ) had the girl been able to speak she may well have asked for a transfusion against her fathers wishes any one see a difference? Religion is not a set of values I would want to associate myself with and the funny thing is getting back to my questionwhich is. Is life not the most important thing there is? or is belief more important?

BBO ids of famous players

I happen to think if there is no star on the name you should not and have no right to post this list in the forums or any public place. IF you want to watch these people play, try Vu Graph or watch when they have thier star showing, if they dont want a big crowd watching they have the right to use an alias and do what they please just like the rest of us. I will vote this Quote of the year :P -
I think you can bring your kids up with a good set of values and raise them as decent people without indoctrinating them into a religion I wish someone would do a social experiment get 100 orphans from all religious walks of life and educate (this does not mean indoctrinate (or I prefer the term brainwash)) them in normal things and give them equal exposure to all main stream forms of religion (I say this as there are some pretty weird people about that have created some odd religions or cults) Then when they get older (adulthood), see if any what religious path these people have chosen to take, what ever it is it has been their choice and that is something that a lot religious peoples kids do not get.

wrongly or rightly a belief is a belief and does not have to be backed up by fact science, logigal or illogical thought or anything else, surely it is exactly what it says on the tin " a belief" many misguided people have beliefs, it would appear that, the one thing belief does for you is, it closes your mind I do not believe in God, but I do think there is probaly a great being (what ever that may prove to be) out there in a different world in a different dimension, something we can not yet comprehand or just plain cleverer than us. I do not think that, that is any way to base my values on life trying to do what I think they would want us to do. Being brainwashed as a child into my parents religious beliefs is basically wrong (imho) What makes me laugh out loud, is the arrogance of most religious people I have met in the fact they actually think they have got it right.

one of the reasons I posted this question, I was having a discussion with some friends and I said no matter what you discus is right or wrong with this world, Religion is always going to be more contencious and divisive subject than politics or racism (so far that would appear true in this thread) another reason was to get some views about whether I was doing the right thing with my kids (they are all stable one has a degree all work or are still studying all are pretty normal and most of all pretty honest and law abiding) without a religious indoctrination (if that is the posh word for brainwashing I will use it) Religion should in my humble opinion be banned, if you believe in God fantastic, I wish you spend your time in the after life with him or her and hope you are happy, I await the proof I would argue that yes to some extent religion (which appers to me to only be a set of beliefs, nothing more(I think it is a huge cash cow for some people)) brings a set of values to a society, (and that is how religion came to be, scare tactics for the oppressors to control their subjects or lack of understanding and a not very advanced society and a few people with the foresight to realise that people are sheep and in general there are not so many leaders of men) Though it is quite amusing just what the different religions decide are the values they want instilled in their society I live in a mainly christian country, where there appears to be a huge (hidden, I doubt other countries are any different) problem with male priests and young underage boys. I find it difficult comprehend why if there is a GOD he allows this sort of thing to go on under his own roof ( I would love to hear the explanation for this justification) I wonder where you all got your own religious beliefs from, how many of you were indoctrinated in your current belief system and never really had another choice which religion you followed, NOT whether you followed a religion or did not follow a religion also, I wonder how open minded religious people really are ???????? Not very I suspect One last thing how many of you actually changed religious beliefs or became religious in adulthood, the few converts I have met in real life became Jehovahs witnesses as adults, I can only say they were social misfits who probably just wanted somewhere to belong This is my humble opinion and mine alone, no offence at any individual or religion is intended, please excuse my lack of written skills if you find offence in any thing I have said because I have not explained myself well

I do not believe the is a GOD I know for a fact there is religion
