I am quite amused by this subject, more intelligent bankers. I don't think so, they are intelligent enough, they dream up ways of marketing credit and debit, so they can cream a huge profit off for themselves, please do not think I am some kind of socialist as I am not. The young are not really to blame, they have been led up the garden path of the quick profit, perhaps no one really taught them the value of money and all they are victims of, are societies leeches, bankers insurance lawyers etc etc the list is quite long. I do not believe we should bail out the banks, the only people that will be saved are the ones with savings, the ones that cant afford the loans are the ones that in the long run would probably benifit from a few banks getting thier just deserts I think you will find that Greed is the problem, not that we need more intelligent bankers (as I said the are probably to smart for thier own good)

TD fails to adjust board, I was damaged
sceptic replied to MomoTheDog's topic in BBO Tournaments Discussion
Actually I wonder how many TD's you consider are at the correct level I have seen attempts by people that are nowhere near good enough to comment talk a load of b******s on the forums the main problem with bridge and these forums and i AM SURE OTHER FORUMS is that the amount of worldclass TD's that can interpert stupid bloody laws is minimal, whilst the idiots that want adjustments etc etc etc against siocial bridge players are the ones ruining the game for the majority of social players and I wonder if there are any statistisians out there that can come up with a percentage of social players versus competitive players -

Is there a way to filter new posts?
-
Thats exactly what I had seen I just could not see a way to make except a favorable club split
-
even if they had intermediate on thier profile?
-
thats all I can see then hope the clubs split well, I can't see how to do anything else
-
Actually if what Paul said "I believe Barnet once 'tanked' for about 25 minutes as declarer" about 25 mins covers 22 mins, so I think you are being over picky here Roland
-
clockwise for about 5 mins, gave up trying to see it going anti clockwise now I try later it is anitclockwise and I can't get it to go clockwise Weird

actually E Bay have a ratings system. why can Bridgebase not adopt such a system, it would not be hard to work out a method of rating someone and also the ratings have some bearing as to the strength of the person ranking them also, so the higher standard someone is, the more emphasis put on their vote. it would probably take a few months for the rankings to settle down to mean anything it may be possible to only see the rankings your friends or partners have given to a specific player

I am sure I married this womans mother

ok lets take a guess how many people play bridge in the world 100,000,000 ? how can you fit all these into 5 or 6 catorgorys You are wasting your time trying to evaluate self ranking or even ranking by events won or any other way The one thing I dislike about this repeated discussion is the attitude that we have any right to judge people, someone who plays this game and is what you may deem to be an under achiever in life, takes up bridge and enjoys it and collects points and gets to a rank that makes that person proud to have achieved, now we have experts that pour scorn on the rank (i.e. ACBL life master). ACBL life master, they have earned that right to be called that, the issue is some do it quicker than others, some do it by persistance, some do it by ability Just worry about your own rating and stop worrying about what everyone else has got, you know if you are any good and you know if your opps are crap, if you don't like your ops or pards, markem down and avoid them, it is easy on BBO

I have a solution to this long standing problem try these rankings for size Beginner or novice, which ever you feel comfortable with, this is someone that is starting out and does not have a teacher or anything we all know to some extent what a beginner is Intermedate, has leant more than the basics, but finds it hard to play with a complete novice as it spoils thier fun and it not really going to advance themselves if they stay playing at this level good intermediate, someone that has a reasonable grasp of the main conventions within thier own geographical area (this may need wording differently as some people learn ion the net and so they dont really undersatnd the local system well), has a reasonable grasp of thier own carding system good intermediate +_ can play 2 or 3 systems and various carding systems knows some more advanced topics and can remeber them at the table with out a cheat sheet but does not find it easy all the time Advanced player, is a certified teacher (though I think this may not be a good rule as some of the teachers think they are good and are crap) also someone that can mentor a pupil properly and someone that when they play with an expert, keeps them at the table for more than a few hands before they leave in disgust Expert (interesting way to define people) would be to do a poll of all the posters in the forums and set a standard as to what an expert would be) i.e. who you all consider an expert and why World Class this should be voted on by the experts on BBO Swan bridge OK etc and group together and limited to the top 500 players in the world and Fred should be able to put a fix in that only genuine people can get a worldclass rating on their profile I am sure someone like Ben or Roland would like to keep tabs on this list and add people as it seems fit I think ranking by peers is better than what we have here for the world class and expert status And then the best rank of all Social player, I do not care how you rate yourself as long as you are polite and can play a reasonable fun game

Why is someone considered a youth at 28, surely this has a detrimental effect on real youths, which I would consider 21 to be the max age

what ever happened to do not judge a book by its cover. I have only been to a few tourneys in the UK and yes some people were, what I would describe as casual, I did not feel that anyone let the side down, I actually found that the behaviour issue came from the people that were over dressed for the occasion and brought with them an inflated worth of themselves as people But what the heck do I know, I do think that if Tony Forrester wants to improve the bridge scene, there are more important things to do than let everyone in the world know we are a scruffy bunch of buggers Dressing better, will not bring out peoples better side, it usually has the opposite effect (IMHO) A quick slap round the back of the head is probably what is required to sort of the few bad examples of behaviour I have witnessed at the bridge table. One comment I would make, if I had to sit of my backside in a less than comfortable chair for about 6 - 7 hours, I sure would hate to be in a TUX

Do you seriously expect people to wear socks with their sandals, if so then you are possibly responsible for the down turn in good dress sense at bridge events Is there any kind of geographic relationship between socks and sandals? Here in the US very few people seem to weak socks with sandals (or Tevas or whatever). I've noticed that in Germany the coverse seems true. Personally, I prefer weaking socks with sandals (otherwise also those dust particles that get swept between your feet and the sandals turn into a nasty sweat paste). My mother is complete horrified by this fashion "statement" and constantly blows me ***** about it. My mother and my wife also do the same to me

URGENT MESSAGE to Tony Forrester Do you seriously expect people to wear socks with their sandals, if so then you are possibly responsible for the down turn in good dress sense at bridge events
