Misclick....Undo....Change of mind.....Undo
sceptic replied to calabres's topic in Suggestions for the Software
its a lot easier to misclick on a computer than it is to misplay at a table. for instance, i switch to another window...normally i switch back with alt-tab, but sometimes i use my mouse, and some people exclusively do so. if i accidentally click on the pass button when switching back, it passes for me...nothing i can do about it. exactly the sort of person that would benefit from a ban on all undos and make you pay attention instead of doing two things at once and not being fair to people at your table -
I am curious are you trying to promote bridge to older people or trying to get more youngsters into the game? or just general promotion

Misclick....Undo....Change of mind.....Undo

Ban all undos, that way most of the careless undos and consequences, will teach people to concentrate more as I think that is the reason for most undo requests, lack of concentration while playing on the net, it will help keep people from the forums when they should be playing bridge -
Pff, In my humble opinion you don't know what you are talking about. Yes, there are a lot of very good people in the European parliament. If they are that good, why cant they draw up a constitution between them?
-
I agree with your opinion of Blair, but your reasoning is flawed, The Iraq war is something we should be behind, the boys out there do not need to feel it is all for nothing
-
I think Tony Blair should be in charge of Europe, they are all a bunch of Tossers that are milking the system, and why not have them headed up by the biggest tosser of the lot Anyone that believes any of the European politicians are in it for the people IMHO is out of touch with the real world. I would not go as far as to say none care about their own country; I just feel that the European gravy train is to much of a lure to mere mortals VOTE BLAIR VOTE BLAIR then he can join his buddy Neil Kinnock another successful Labour politician, who son and wife (and probably 100% of any inbreed cousins he has floating about) are milking the system with Jobs of Inflated title justifying immense salaries coming form our pockets in the name of social advancement.

actually I think we are all in some way in agreement, we differ in how we present our opinions or how philosophical we decide to be (but I could be wrong) The Arch Bishop of Canterbury (this is probably a misspelling) is a complete out of touch moron, who needs to get an interest outside of his higher intelectual plain

Can some one tell me, the advantadges of Sahria Law, how it will effect us and what beneifts it will have to social cohesion

The increase in church going public, would appear to me to be, Africans and Polish, it does not appear to be naturalised British, This is my take on things based not on fact but observation of people, whilst this may not be scientific enough for some of you to agree with, I doubt the statistics would prove me wrong. (The one thing I do know, is statistics are effective in helping the person making the point as you can pay any idiot to produce stats that assist an agruement) Also let a camel get its nose in the tent, just about sums up my personal fears, whilst again some of you probably scoff at this and I am sure the great thinkers of the world like the AB would dismiss this as irrational fear or as someone pointed out, an opinion made by someone less (or badly) versed in muslim history, you cannot always think your way around a problem, some times you just need to say NO Once Sharia law is accepted into this country, you are now in danger of alienating the mainstream, I am sure that Brussels can provide us with some guidance, maybe the solution is for all women to go back to being subserviant, they fought hard for something they deserve and it is still not 100% equal, I for one do not want my daughters to have anything but the best opportunity in life and I respect other people enough to know, that given the freedom that western woman have got, let the muslim women taste that freedom and then ask them to go back to the old ways I actually have discussed this with some asian women and life for them is double standards, double standards they really do not want, maybe we should concentrate on their rights, I am sure if we solve that one for them, integration will be a lot easier for all of us to accept. I do not see many interpretations of the Koran made by women NOT men (again I may be ignorant here and woman may indeed have interpreted the Koran, for their menfolk, but I kind of doubt that)
-
Do you see me worrying about asians, blacks, chinese etc , no! this is not a racial or bigotted view, this is a view from someone that has a genuine concern about muslim Sharia law and elements that may be radical, but they have a lot of sympathy from the multitude of normal law abiding muslems..... I hope they intigrate and blend in well and accept us with all our faults, I am sure we have many, compromise is not a one way street.................
-
I would defend Claus, I do not think he is bigotted, I think he is as worried about what comes next. I do not see the muslims coming forward to make compromise, they seem (and I say this based on perhaps my own ignorance) to want it all thier own way, this is what I find uncceptable, I have no issue with what they want to believe in or how strong thier faith is, I DO NOT want to live in a muslim country

for one do not mind the 10 comandments. I actually think in a society, they are a pretty much a common sense approach towards a set of rules for a society. I meant as a common sense approach, ignoring the religious aspects as you cant make an image or likenes of something that does not exist
-
does it not make any difference if that bid could have been made even with out the hesitation?
-
I for one do not mind the 10 comandments. I actually think in a society, they are a pretty much a common sense approach towards a set of rules for a society. I just feel that while, we as a nation, have been very tolerant as a society, possibly one of the most tolerant and have done a lot to integrate people into our society (I by no means, think that we have done this perfectly, we are willing to try an improve things) I just have a great fear (and it is probably the thing that worries me most about the muslims, (even though as pointed out, the jews have thier own courts for things)) is thier own failure to try and adapt to our culture and change some of thier ways, I can even sympatise with the Christians in thier own fears of what this society will become. We are going to become, if we are not careful a nation with another nation inside it, that despises all we stand for and in the future we are opening ourselves up to civil striffe It is quite worrying that we are changing laws based on Religous needs. (yes I am aware that a lot of our laws evolved from a time when religion was quite important to our society as a whole, we have laws of equailty and laws about marriage (two wives, two husbands) we are even considering paying welfare to these people so they can claim for more than one wife....... We are in danger of kicking in the teeth the very people that make up our nation........ I for one do not want sharia law in this country ( though stoning peodophiles to death does have some merit) I am happy that they can construct some civil structure like the jews have, BUT again and I cant stress this enough... we are opening the floodgates to all sorts of future problems that this society does not need... until the muslims show they are willing to compromise and try an integrate wihout throwing the race or religious card at the hand that feeds them, then I fear we should not let them have thier own way, if they can show tolerance and actively change themselves and comprimise in their beliefs, then we will get some where The AB would have done better if he is that clever lecturing the muslims on compromise and addressing the issues we find offensive
-
I agree with your examples 100%, BUT In a similar vein, if a Sharia banks wants to lend money without charging interest so be it... great no issue here If a Mormon wants to pay 10% to his income to the church as a tax, so be it... I believe that there is regulation or at least tax relief for this ( so it is within government regulation ) The key issue is that these are voluntary agreement outside the scope of government regulations. so honour killings, arranged (forced) marriages, stoning, amputation, these are voluntry agreements (I personally would call them law) if you follow the faith you have to embrace the whole good and bad. my issue here is that if we allow some, then when they break our laws, some smart ass lawyer will defend them in our courts and use a defence like " we they believed sharia law was allowed in their community, so they are inoccent.... I really think we are on a slippery slope if we allow it, there is anther point to be made, what if a muslim, rejects sharia law and then is ostrascised in his community, where do we stand, we are just opening the floodgates for more complex problems in the future what if the muslims ever get so fanatical they want sharia law to be the main law of the land, this may sound absurd, but I am sure that is akin to some meglamaniac trying to enforce democracy to every country in the world. it COULD happen
-
Lets go the whole hog, allow honour killings
-
You're going to have a dispute with yourself and you'd like to settle it by your own rules? I doubt anyone would deny you that pleasure. :)

A government is elected to do what is right for its people (I always thought the democratic thing was do what the majority want) In a muslim country I totally agree, they can have sharia law, they can also have as many wives as they want, they can keep thier womens rights at what we would perceive as sub standard, I would even go as far as to say sub human rights of women, I would not want any of my daughters brought up in that environment, nor would I want to let any regime or religion have a say in our country that wants to bring it into being. Unfortunately, people with such openmindedness as the AB, generally help to erode the way of life, that I for one, quite enjoyed and was quite happy with, it is not perfect, but it is getting better in some ways One thing you overlook is there are large factions of the muslim world, that are not quite looking for the civil agreements to be resolved via sharia law, they want the whole kit and kaboodle, give em an inch and they will take a mile, I do not trust them (this is a personal view based on my limited interaction with them) What really pisses me off with his words, whilst he is probably a very academic person (and I have known people of this ilk, that could not tie up their own shoelaces without an instruction manual) , is when are people going to listen to us non believers and banish all bloody religions Ok, I want to have my own set of rules to settle my own disputes I am a minority of one, does this mean I can ignore the law of the land. BS Williams is a very intelligent halfwit who has lost touch with reality where does it stop ths bloody PC madness, if they dont like our rules, dont come to the land of the Giro As a side note, I would love to know what benifits we as a country would have from the introduction of sharia law, and also, what happens when there is a dispute with a non muslim and a muslim, whos laws prevail?

What a disappointing thread :P

I have no opinion on the subject, I will ask my wife, what I think, ok she says I over rate myself because I am weak and have an inferiority complex, she also says, that I am so inconsistant that the current catogories do me no justice at all and my arguement for over rating myself because I get rejected so often in the mbc if I have anything less than advanced showing is a very poor justification I have no idea what the answer is, maybe just play with people you know, this is great if you know people, but a bit rough if you don't.... the only problem I see with rejecting people based on ratings, is you can miss making some new friends, there are some really nice people about that are fun to play with ....... you are either a total novice or world class, the level in between could be divided up by a thousand catogories and people would still be rated incorrectly and experts idea of an advanced player is probably different from and intermediates idea of an advanced player There is no hope for this thread, just by taking part in it, you are doomed to a life of worry and frustration.
