  1. I liked the bidding. 4♣ over 3♣, being a space consuming bid should show a good hand with lots of controls. It should deny any secial feature like sixth heart, 5th trump, void in diamonds, it should just show a good hand with controls and missing some important small cards (like SQ or !hQ
  2. I see 3 possible choices 1) 3NT - unilateral. Partner needs a good hand for this to make, otherwise we'll be in the wrong column. My mark is 5 2) dbl - we can miss 3nt sometimes (but 3nt by part or 3♠-3nt is possible). Also partner may sit and opps could make (the ♥K could be worthless). But still this is the call with the biggest probability of success. I'll give it a 9. 3) pass - chicken, partner will never play you for such a good hand, tghough can be the last chance for a plus score. My mark is 4.
  3. 1♠, wating for the news.We have enough time to rebid clubs afterwards. If we're going to make a big number of tricks partenr should appreciate at their right value the hcp in spades.
  4. I'll bid 4♠ for more reasons: -It may make or go down one, and tghough it could be an under 50% contract, bidding the game at this vulnerabilities is a 36.5%+ affair -Opponents may reopen and find an making game (4♥ for example) -Opponents may make a phantom sacrifice, especially at this vulnerabilities

    Lead

Leading a singleton when i don't have trump control, especially in their secondary suit is not my choice (just imagine you have 4 top tricks to cash in other suits). I would have lead ♣K and continue with ♣Q waiting for a diamond signal from my partner. I also consider 2♦ opening a poor choice
  6. [hv=d=s&v=n&s=sj83h10764dj75cqj3]133|100|[/hv] Holding in second position a wretched hand, remarkable only by all jacks collection, you hear opponents bidding 1NT(15-17, can have 5M/6m/singleton) - 3NT, and you're on lead. 1) What's your lead in MP's? 2) What's your lead in IMP's?
  7. Mandatory 3NT. Considering the preemptor has an average 7hcp, then the average expected force for partner is 8.5 hcp. He'll pass with that, when 3nt will be on. So i'll take my bet
  8. a) Dbl is OK, probably 1nt better :) 14 - 16 c) Doesn't necesarily promise a rebid. Usually partner has Hxxx or xxxx in ♠. Asks primarily for a half stooper in ♠ d) 2nt
  9. Obvious a choice between 2♦ and 2♠, and every one of them has some pluses and minuses -2♦ is showing the hand type first, one suited hand in diamonds, shows a source of tricks for a ♦/NT/♠ contract. Also when partner has 4♠ it will be more frequent a better partscore than 2♠ -2♠ has the big advantage of finding quickly the spade fit. One important aspect here is that, after denying exactly 4♥ and 4♠, the probability for partner to have 5 spades rather than 4 increased (29.3%- 4 cards, 48.3% -5 cards, 22.4% 6+cards). Assuming that with 6♠ partner would have bid once again anyway, the advantage of bidding 2♠ is finding a better partscore sometimes and especially, reaching a ♠ game when we would have stopped in 2♦ otherwise (partner is short in ♦ and has 9-10 hcp). The bad part is that partner will never know about 6th diamond.
  10. This should be a +11/-11 IMP loss, and i think, 6♠ will be make more than in 50% percent of cases. I don't see any mechanism to control that (5♥ will just show hearts, and pass is non-forcing). So i'll take my above average chance and shoot 6♠
  11. 3♦ was OK if you're not playing support doubles. South has a great hand now with 4 filling cards, and if we have ♥ control the slam is obvious. So 3♥ (establishing GF) and on 3♠ from partner bid 4♣. From here it's easy
  12. 3♦ was OK if you're not playing support doubles. South has a great hand now with 4 filling cards, and if we have ♥ control the slam is obvious. So 3♥ (establishing GF) and on 3♠ from partner bid 4♣. From here it's easy
  13. 1♥, i think it's a bad idea to redouble with a good 5 card suit
  14. There are 2 important issues here: 1) Does 3♠ shows a semisolid suit (AKQ10, KQJ10, AQJ10) playing in front of a void for maximum one loser? There it was another systemic possibility for showing a strong hand with spades (for example using a 2♥ relay, then bidding 3♠)? Then probably North could have shown a little enthusiasm earlier by bidding 4♦) 2) Let's suppose that 3♠ bid can show a suit with 1 1/2+ losers. Now 3NT is a mandatory negative. The 4♣ cue confirms now the semisolidty of the suit. Is 4♦ a sign of enthusiasm or an almost forced cue-bid? This is a matter of partnership agreement So i don't see this as a mistake matter, but more as a systemic matter.
  15. This isn't a standard pass forcing position, and even a recommended one. Pass is to play here in front of a limit raise. I have a limit raise with only 2 controls, but the 4th trump (of course playing 2NT here as showing a 4+ card fit inv+ is better) and good intermediattes suggests acting. So my choices are: -In IMP's (playing partner for a usual xx AKQxx Kxx xxx/ xx AKQxx xxx Kxx/ Kx AQxxx xxx Kxx) pass seems right. But also bidding 4♥ and risking a 3-4 IMP loss (or win 3 IMP if 3♠ makes :) ) could bring some benefits, if either 4♥ makes or opps take the sacrifice. -In MP's it's a tough choice, and double it's not the solution (+50/+100 won't change matter much if 4♥ makes). It's important to write in the right column. Probably i would have bid directly 4♥ anyway the first bid (or i'll do it confident now) and hope this either makes or opps will take the sacrifice
  16. This is a close one, but i think i'll pass. Why? No trump honours, and even if partener has great trumps, the contract is in danger on a ♥ lead
  17. Agree, a direct overcall shows a better offensive hand. Passing then bidding 2NT is also for minors, but worse hand
  18. It was a poker pass, especially holding for of a kind (Kings) :D
  19. Not the best play, but position is nice, definitely an imaterial squeeze. For more of this stuff i recommend you "Adventures in Card Play" - by Geza Ottlik & Hugh Kelsey. Great book!
  20. This is an intersting board, your gadgets worked pretty well, you found a lot about partner's hand, i guess 90% of the room will certainly be in 4♥. Still knowing about spade shortage, 2 big problems rise: does partner has ♣Q or ♦K and especially does partner has 5th trump (we need 3 ruffs in dummy)? If this is not sure or at least probable (partner showed a minimum hand tghough) you should have passed 5♥
  21. 4 trumps with AQ10x are not enough for a trap pass, and also ther could be a big risk that partner with 3-4 ♥ will pass. I completely agree with previous posts
  22. I agree with 2♣. I would have passed 4♠, showing a offensive hand without ♥ fit. If partner doubles, i'll bid 5♣. If partner bids something (normal with 3 controls and nothing lost in spades), i'll bid 6♣
  23. 1. For me 2♥ is not a fnj. And i wouldn't double with 5♥ and 2♠. 2♥ says i have decent+ 5 hearts, a goodish passing hand, and probably i resist 2♠. Probably a 2♥ muiderberg opening wasn't systemic. 2. I like 1♠ at this vulnerabilities. The hand has a good offensive potential, so game can be still on if we find ♠ fit 3. What should i do? I'll definitely not pass, scoring +100 when +110/+140/+170 is almost certain won't get me good marks. My choice is between 3♠ and double, and this time, due to the purity of the hand and doubleton ♥ i'll choose 3♠
