  1. Obvious pass, agree 100% with Harald, partner has 4+♠ and 5+♥, and he's very weak, and the misfit it's obvious.
  2. I think ♠ lead is the worst. If there's going to be a 'surprise' ( a promoting suit in dummy), ♠ lead will deliver the contract every time. And usually won't do any harm (they have a huge fit), just lose a tempo. So my mark for ♠ lead is 2. About other 3 choices: -club - most dangerous from other 3 suits, lacking length and honour, can be easy the surprise suit - my mark is 5 -diamond - dangerous if AQxxx, or Axxxx on dummy and void in declarer's hand- my mark is 8 -heart - dangerous if HQJx on dummy and void in declarer's hand or so - my mark is 8
  3. I agree with Justin. You double and then what? Pass your partner's response or raise? You can't express your values and shape starting with double. And another important point: RHO didn't bid spade fit, so it's an important possibility that he doesn't have it, and if partner has Hxxx or Hxx in ♠ we must bid no trump
  4. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sak876hkj8765d2c2&s=s92haqdaq97ckqj43]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] S ----- W ------ N ------ E 1♣-----3♦------3♥------pas 3NT ---pas --- 4♠ ----- pas 6NT Please comment this bidding and explain your other choices. What was the worst call in your opinion?
  5. Obvious pass. As Roland said, even thinking about this is an overbid: no enough hcp's, the long suit is only 5 cards (no source of tricks), 3 cards in their suit is awful.
  6. 1. About hand evaluation: this is a 4 loser hand, and we should be in game after partner's response. 2. Playing natural we have the only game focing bid below 3nt to show this 3♣. If we play this as conventional with a 3♦ relay for description is perfect, or if partner can understand that many times we can have some strong hands with solid/semisolid diamond or a very strong hand 3 card fit, and act properly is OK. If that's not possible, then i'll bid 3NT 3. Of course there some other systems (like strong club systems), methods (like playing 2♥ with more meanings), that require learning/discussing to improve this. But this is not the object of this forum.
  7. Agree 100% with Robert. When you have more possible bids and one of them is to give fit with 3 cards with honour, take that into consideration. You'll win in the long run, though sometimes you'll have to play some 4-3 fits, but this could sometimes work better than playing 1NT. And at least your partner will sharpen his declaring skills B)
  8. The final will be: [hv=n=s6h1087dakc7&w=s9hdqj10c1093&e=shqj9543d9c&s=skq3hd654c5]399|300|[/hv] a) East returns Q♥, i'll discard club, ruff high next heart, and play ♦A-♦, club ruff , diamond ruff, West will underuff 13th trick B) East returns ♦, cash ♦A-K, and play ♥ ruffed high, diamond ruff and ... club to West, and taking last 2 trump tricks
  9. 5. Cash one round of trumps (as i posted before when i wrote it first time in 2.1 i jumped over this step) 6. lead a ♦: if LHO puts in the 10, we have to win, else LHO cashes a club (i reverted steps 5-6) 7. Play trump to ♠Q, removing opps trumps 8. play diamond and let it ride to 9♦ (second trick lost) 9. East plays ♥ and you discard club. This is the ending: [hv=n=sh1087dac7&w=shdj10c1093&e=shqj954dc&s=sk3hd65c5]399|300|[/hv] Your 10th trick will be ♥10
  10. No, pls follow my advice for skorchev
  11. Now i discard club on ♥Q, and i'll manage to ruff diamond in dummy "P.S. I also think that covering the club at trick two gives you more problems than you give it credit for...." No, i'll just play for now trumps from dummy and cash ♣J later going back to similar studied position.
  12. If West plays small on ♦9 i'll duck, if he covers, i'll come on trumps in hand, playing diamond again, if West plays the deuce i'll duck, if he plays high i'll take and make a natural diamond trick.
  13. Yes, sorry when i wrote, in line 2.1, i jumped over "i cash one round of trumps"
  14. Please take a pack of cards and test it. I'm willing to take any bets on this one
  15. I bet on declarer. Here are 2 main ideas in this board: to endplay East or ruff 4th diamond in dummy 1)The first mandatory step is to remove the exist cards in clubs from East hand. So i'll start with ♣Q, let's consider that West doesn't cover (if covers is almost the same). Now i'll play second club to ♣A, 2) to play trump from dummy. Here we have 2 cases: 2.1) East plays the Ace and then play a high heart. I ruff high, play diamond to A♦, ruff high another heart , diamond to K♦, and play the last heart discarding a club, now East should play ruff and discard and concede the game (i'll make first ruff in dummy, then i have ♦ and ♣ in dummy to ruff in hand the suit that East keeps) 2.2) East plays ♠10. Now i'll play ♦ from hand, 2.2.1) if West plays small i'll duck, and reach also an endplay position if East returns high heart by playing ♦+♠ (after ruffing high). If East tries to escape from the endplay, i'll manage to ruff last diamond in dummy 2.2.2) if West plays high ♦, i'll take and play another ♠. Now if East return high heart we return to a known theme, if he returns ♦9, if Weast doesn't cover i'll duck and i'm back into position 2.2.1). If West cover then i'll take my 10th trick from sheer power (43 in ♦ vs 102 ;) ). That should be all
  16. My bid was 4♦, splinter, and no extras (14- hcp). LHO bid 4♠ and my partner who held [hv=s=s65hq10872dakq75c3]133|100|[/hv] bid 5♥, one down. He considered 4♦ not a good bidding argueing that it should show controls in both black suits, and considering 3♣ then game as a much better bid. What's your opinion about this?
  17. You hold in second seat, at unfavorable: [hv=d=e&v=n&s=sq102hkj93d2cak1082]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] And bidding goes: (1♣) - pass - (pass) - 1♥ (1♠) - ? - 1♠ promises at least 4-4 in the black suits What's your choice now and why?
  18. You hold in second seat, at love all, this rara avis: [hv=d=e&v=n&s=shadaqj532ckqj942]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] and RHO opens 2♦ MULTI (weak in one major or strong NT) What's your plan for the bird?
  19. I bet on defense. 1)♠K is necesary for destroying the threat 2F, there's no further defense without that, West is squeezed. 2)After this lead declarer must play ♥, trying to ruff and rectifying the count in the same time. East should play high ♥ and return trump. A second trump is played and East should play again high and return second trump. 3) Now declarer cashes trumps. West should avoid discarding ♥Q, otherwise a double squeeze is settled. He must mentain the simple threats in ♠ and ♥, and his partner must control the ♦. The final will be:[hv=n=sjhda10c&w=sqhqdqc&e=shjdjxc&s=sh10dxck]399|300|[/hv] and the defense will prevail
  20. In my opinion, 4NT should show a good hand intrested in playing more on this sequence, showing a 17+ hand and singleton spade. With a weaker hand and 5m+4♥ and spade shortage i would have bid my longer minor (5♣/5♦). On other sequences 4NT shows just 2 places to play, but now our shape is confined by our first double. So let partner decide, bid 4NT and pass his decision.
  21. Pass at both form of scoring. Sometimes preempts work
  22. I prefer pass with North. South should double
  23. I'll take !CK. Cash ♦K +♦A, cash ♥A, play ♠ to Jack
  24. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=shaqj93dkq8cakj102]133|100|Scoring: IMP (pass)-pass -(1♥)- ?[/hv] Teams, you're sitting South. 1) What's your bid? 2) If you double and bidding goes (pass) - pass - (1♥) - dbl (1♠) --- pass -- (2♦) - ? What is your choice now?
