1.Pass 2. 4NT, general slam try 3. 5♦
-
1. I would pass 2. I don't like a direct 3♣, we may lose hearts and the suit is too weak 3. Often 3♣ preempts the partner. Maybe playing reverse a direct 3m weak, and 1nt followed by 3m could work better

You hold as South in a strong team match: [hv=d=n&v=e&s=sq97543hd10972c1042]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] and bidding goes: N ------- E ---------S--------V 1♣ -----4♥---------?

REBID AFTER OVERCALL
Edmunte1 replied to navit's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Obvious pass. I play double still suport, but with extras -
3♠. Even 4♥ could be in danger if partener has lost points in ♠ (KQx xxx Q10xx xxx for example)
-
2NT standard. I've already opened, it's not time for taking back
-
I would have bid 3♠-good suit 7 1/2 tricks. 2♦ is possible as second alternative, with the risk of getting passed
-
5♠ might make, but i can see many ways of going down (a heart ruff, a diamond ruff or even losing 2 spade tricks and another ace). I don't have anything special to pull double, and partner doesn't have also, he didn't make a forcing pass. So i'll just chalk my plus score
-
Agree with Hannie. The spade shift is not difficult. You can count for maximum 6hcp in partner's hand, and ♥A is counted as 4 of them. Partener has only 5 cards (only the deuce is missing) so declarer has hearts stopped. If partner doesn't have ♠Q (♥J or ♦Q or♣Q) i don't see any defense (sooner or later the diamonds well provide the tricks). So ♠ return is mandatory
-
2♠ in MP's is pretty obvious for me. Leaving them in 2♥ won't get us usually a good score. I wouldn't have balanced in IMP's in red.

whats your bid
Edmunte1 replied to jocdelevat's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
4♣, too strong for 3nt, i may miss an easy slam -
This was the full hand: [hv=d=e&v=n&n=skxxhxd8xc10xxxxxx&w=sq109xxhxxdj10xxcqx&e=sajxxxhkxxdaxxcak&s=shaqj109xxdkq9xcj9]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv] As you can see 4♥ then double was the right choice, even with almost nothing in partner's hand this goes down 2. My choice 2♥ followed by 5♥ ( i was hoping to have a second bid or partner to make a move before 4♠), -500 scored 3/20 MP's

Agree 100% with P_Marlowe

The most important fact here is if partner's pass is forcing or no. In my methods it is, and i think it's a better way to handle this kind of boards (doubling for a make it's just a 4 IMP loss vs. undoubled contract). So i'm on the bidders part, and 5♥ should be an option. The great danger of bidding is losing trump control and going down for a number. If partner's pass wouldn't have been forcing, i would have passed
-
8 controls and 5th diamond. Really amazing. I think partner shouldn't jump in 4NT. A 2♣ relay, looking for 3 card fit in diamonds (just 50% chance after 1nt :) would have been better
-
Usually i open an off-shape 1NT when i have an ackward rebid: -6m322 with a bad suit, not good enough for 1m-3m. I don't do this with a major -5422 with 5 cards in lower rank suit (♣+♦, ♣+♥, ♦+♥). Also 5♦+4♣ and 16-17. I do it sometimes with 5M+4m and bad major -5M332 - frequent -1444 with spade singleton (usually honour) and 16-17
-
The real hand is here http://www.freewebs.com/kotsev/lead.jpg Anyway they don't know how many aces they have. And I would lead ♠ after PASS. And if my partner have ♦A they can pitch some ♦ on ♥ and ♠♠.

MP's , all vulnerable, you're sitting South as dealer, and bidding goes: you --- LHO --- part --- RHO 1♥------1♠------2♥------3♠(1) DBL (1)-preemptive 1) What do you play double in this position? 2) Should DBL mean something else in IMP's?
-
Playing in the national MP's final, you hold as South in second seat: [hv=d=e&v=n&s=shaqj10932dkq94cj9]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] and East opens 1♠. a ) What's your first bid ? b ) Considering that LHO bids 4♠ and it comes pass - pass up to you, what's your second bid?
-
1) I would have passed (with ♥A instead of ♥K i would have bid 5♦ showing the possibility of playing 6♦ or 5NT ). Without ♥A I need a too much better hand from partener to make 6♦ 2) I agree with 1NT, 2♦ should show an unbalanced hand (1435, 1444)
-
Without double i would have made a defensive lead (trump) trying to avoid to give away a trick. I don't see any reason for an offensive lead, like attacking an entry. I consider 4♥ as showing shortness in hearts, probably 4144 or so. Double from partner means something went wrong in opps bidding, and an ace is missing (♦ or ♠). I also consider that partner probably has only 1-2 hearts (with 3 cards maybe he would have bid 5♥) and 2-3 trumps. The main idea is to make the lead in that suit where if you miss the jackpot, the probability that the cards in the right suit to be discarded on the other suit to be smaller. Another important point is to construct some hands that are close with opps bidding, and ♠Q is a great asset, because we know that opps have max 33 hcp. Considering that responder has void in hearts, a trump high card and a source of tricks for bidding an undisiplined 7, the hands may be: a ) xxxx --- KQJxx Kxxx vs. KJ(x) AKQx A(x) AQJxx b ) AJ10x --- Kxxx Qxxxx vs. Kx(x) AKQx Q(J) AKxxx As you can see, as long as dummy holds the ♠A, diamond control and possibly a trump honour, there are almost not enough points for 2♣ opening. Also considering that we lead spade and miss the ace, partner can still have ♠J or ♠10 and opps don't have enough discards for diamonds. So i'll lead ♠Q
-
If you're not playing Granovetter or something like that, i think it's a pass hand. Partner will expect a much better hand (as hcp) for a direct overcall. Now it's a close call between pass and 4♦ and i'll chose 4♦

endless discussion
Edmunte1 replied to mike777's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Obvious 2nt (15+18) call for me. This hand worths more than 14 hcp. It has 2 sources of tricks (♠+♣) with good intermediattes and a good ♥ holding. -
Getting to Slam?
Edmunte1 replied to GriffenMac's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
A hand who wants to be asked about KC (something like Kxx AKxxx x AJxx). As Justin already said when you decided to ask KC, you should declare always the small slam if only one is missing and you have the queen of trumps, or you have all key-cards and you miss the Queen of trumps.
