  1. Later it says: Truth be told, reading more in the article it says that BWS 2001 reached an experts consensus that doubling and then bidding the suit just over the one partner showed is not a sign of strength but of not quite right a shape. But again, who started this? When? Is it now considered cannon? You haven't suffered until you have experienced the following[hv=d=w&v=b&n=sxxhakxxdkjxxcjxx&s=skqj9xxxhdact9xxx]133|200|Scoring: XIMP Auction 1♥ X 2♦ 2♥ all pass[/hv] Even better is that this is an online BBO tournament and early departures are frowned on (consequently I never leave & suffer thru to the end)
  2. 1) Automatic TOX 2) pass 3) toss up between 1♠ and a TOX
  3. IMO the 3♥ call established the trump suit for South Are you out of your mind? What do you bid with AQJxxx Qx xx Axx? I guess over 3♣ I bid 4♣? Or 3NT promising a ♦ stop? Or 3♠ presumably promising a 7th spade? I guess you must play 3♦ asks for a diamond stop, right? 3♥ only promises a doubleton. If that means we're no longer allowed to play in spades (our 8-card fit) and must play in hearts, (our 7-card fit) then I don't want to play this system anymore, thank you. You're assertion is that over 2♠ N must bid 3♠ right away. That's also nuts. Maybe we belong in NT?? Sure you can construct hands where we have bidding problems at this point (AQJxxx x xxx AQx) but it's just too restrictive to require 3♥ to show at least 63xx shape. We'll have a lot more problems that way. Just look at this hand, wouldn't we rather play in ♠ than ♥? Yet after 3♥ apparently we have no way to do that. perhaps I should have typed 3♥ established trump in South's mind. With the hand you provided what is stopping S from calling 3♦ as a clear (to me anyway) ask for a ♦ stopper? This also reduces the need to raise ♥ with a doubleton.
  4. Yes, I agree because partner will always have the ♠KQ instead of the Ace and the ♥QJ instead of the King :( Okay I'm sold!! Time for a simul to choose the right call after the Michael's call.
  5. IMO the 3♥ call established the trump suit for South
  6. Well only North is sure about ♠ and supports after he was supported by South with the 3♥ call. Isn't South supposed to be thinking "North made the 3♣ call to show 5♥ and ask for support"? The answer is apparently not but N ignored the implications to his partner after his partner supported with 3♥ now he thinks 3♠ shows support and his partner thinks it was a ♠ qbid. The auction quickly derailed from here.
  7. Well not really a LOTT nut but it has validity and probably should be applied here so IMO 2♠ is pretty automatic.
  8. you're not older you just lost a few chips of paint :P HB
  9. and the fix is here http://www.bridgebase.com/client/beta.php
  10. Both for not having a clear agreement on the meaning of 4♥ & 4♠. North for not using Blackwood to check for aces and opting instead for 5♣. South for re-qbiding ♦ instead of just bidding 5♠
  11. if you swap the minor holdings in either hand it has a pretty negative impact as well nevertheless 3♥ is THE call :P for the west hand IMO
  12. you need a call that will encourage partner to try for game with a marginal hand and IMO 2♠ is your best shot 2♠>3♣>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>2♣
  13. seems to work for me much better than the main client version at least as far as clikking on the cards (pictures of cards). BTW whoever said I needed to use diagrams, are you suggesting my preferences are of no significance? I prefer pictures because they are more like real life cards.
  14. crunch the numbers to see! it is essentially 1/3 that partner has the ♥Q now you need the probabilities that he has 2,3,4,or5 ♥ but no Q(if that is relevant)
  15. well i counted the cards and they look like 3613=13. My problem is I counted the tricks and came up with 6♥2♣2♦2♠=12 so not sure why I am so hot to trot and bid a grand
  16. too many different hands for partner. pass and take the plus(well probable plus)
  17. you need to try for game 3NT looks questionable but possible nevertheless 4♠ is closer than 5♣ so 3♠ for me I think you're missreading who's bid it is. You are to decide whether to leave pard in 2♥x or to pull to 3♣ you are correct...Only Jesus saves (their partner)...I pass :)
  18. you need to try for game 3NT looks questionable but possible nevertheless 4♠ is closer than 5♣ so 3♠ for me
  19. Once upon a time you could pass at this point in the auction to show first round control and double obviously denied it but that seems to have gone by the wayside. If I could pass with confidence I would otherwise 7♥
  20. Assuming NS play Michael's, then S for not bidding 2♥ thereby denying that he holds that hand.
  21. you are in a part score war you need to strike a blow ASAP and that is right now with X.
  22. aren't you pretty much cornered into a ♣ qbid now?
  23. I would say a heart lead since partner is more likely to be short in a major for his 4♠ call otherwise it is just a guess between ♥ and ♦ IMO
