  1. Partner appears to have 3 or fewer ♠, 2 or fewer ♥, a long ♦ suit of 5+ cards and his values rate to be in ♣ this seems like an auto 6♦ as this is MP and you will be losing to those who get to 3NT anyway if that is the correct strain.
  2. Watching a team game where on this hand only EW are vulnerable you see this auction perpetrated on the general public. West North East South - - - 3♣ X 3♥ 3♠ P 4♠ 5♣ 5♠ 6♣ X all pass [hv=d=s&v=e&n=s7haqt65dkq96cj94&s=sq2h4d32caqt87653]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West leads the ♠4 and East wins the A. The ♣2 is returned and South plays the A whereon West deposits the ♣K. Suddenly South keels over out of his chair, dead, and you, as the only kibitzer present, are thrust into the match to finish the hand. How do you continue?
  3. snake eyes on both selections  Basically using dice I was never going to pick either of the first two :)
  4. when you come to New Orleans ask for Abita Amber or for that matter Abita anything
  5. I know English is not your primary language and as attempt to constructively improve your wording I suggest you use "next step" or "first step" instead of "next bid". IMO the latter implies anything between partner's last call and 7NT whereas the "next step" in context implies the next highest call after partner's last call. If you think I am overstepping my bounds please say so and it won't happen again (at least not in the same way ;) )
  6. 1♣ or pass. I think that opening 3♣ in first seat with that is dreadful. Agree since it seems to run counter to best strategy. IMO that is preempt when your ODR is very O and your defensive values are very low. In the sample hand the Opps are probably at best in a 50% slam if partner has zilch. With partner having marginal values game should probably be defended rather than saved against EDIT: this is 1st and 2nd seat strategy again IMO
  7. none of the above. no response is really possible without knowing the colo(u)rs
  8. Not as late as me but not to worry there is plenty of time after all I know dirt that is younger than Phil (and me for that matter) :)
  9. How badly has the oil thing affected the food there? seafood prices are going up but we still have nutria and gator tail stews available:) seriously there are a lot of other kinds of cajun food and the crawfish are freshwater :)
  10. Wow a NEW way to win MASTERPOINTS :)
  11. 1♦ 1NT 2♥ 4♥ take it from there :)
  12. I would guess that anything that doesn't get to the 4♠ game and gets to 3NT instead is probably masterminding the hand
  13. Assume you have the East hand, what would you want partner to bid if your hand was the one below and he held a ♠ stopper.[hv=s=sxhakqjtxdakxcxxx]133|100|[/hv] would you risk the ♣ suit to get to 3NT. The thing about ♠s is you know the opps have a 9 card fit (alright, an 8 card fit with all the top honors is also possible). So why didn't west bid 3NT? Perhaps he was on a different frequency. my 4th lead is the ♠A
  14. hamman eggs in a steel vault :)
  15. well if you want to be able to punish psyches then partner's pass says "I want to play 1DXX" colloquially known as "must save" since he has to pick a suit if he doesnt want to play 1DXX
  16. You mean you are not here yet!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
  17. you have to exploit the fear of his partner having to play the K under the Ace.
  18. you look like you're pretty much screwed into "Hamman eggs in one basket"
  19. Partner is not omniscient - how does he know how many spades you have - surely he wants to pitch a diamond anyway so he can cut down dummy entries with xx diamonds. The real question is why pitch the 8 of diamonds from 8x? Wouldn't the smal one be systemic count here? why is the 8 from 8x and not the smallest he holds. The only small ♦ you can't see after the pitch is the 4.
  20. this gets my vote altho even less than 2♦ do I want to hear 3♦ :P
  21. I would probably have called 5♦ as I assume the X has at least 2 places to play and I don't like ♣
  22. considering where you posted this what are your definitions for "qualified"? You aren't one of those people who open a table in the MBR and advertise for "only real experts" are you?
  23. I try to go with the %age action and while our license to steal is fully charged I still tend to resist since I'm holding 3 ♠
  24. I was trying to help you solve your problem. Which is more important, esthetics or playing the correct card? anyway thanks
