  1. I would think at least 2 galaxies away :)
  2. Not sure what happened here. The bulletin showed 27 teams but chart showed 28. So not sure if we dropped 11 or 12 teams. Anyway as the 27th seed we survived the first day. Probably my experience with pick up players helped as I met my partner, C. J. Jameson, a Stanford collegiate player, Sunday night.
  3. just bid 6♥ you already have 2 more tricks than your partner should expect
  4. I would suggest b ) and c)
  5. IMO 2♠ is virtually game forcing as with a lesser hand a negative X was available and not used so 3♠ to me shows a 6th card or possibly longer but is still forcing
  6. a) pass b ) 2♥; in 1NT this is gambling that partner will be able to not only set up the ♥ but access them after he sets them up. c) pass scattered values are more useful in 1NT d) pass; 1NT probably will play better e) pass f) pass
  7. If this was IMPS I would easily agree with you. But MPs pushes partner to compete with worse hands. After an IMPS X IMO 2NT is clear
  8. well your choices look to be 2♠, 2NT, and pass. Not having bid 2♠ on the previous round, your partner should take this call as a rock bottom minimum. 2NT shows the ♥ stopper but not sure where you are going to take 8 tricks plus the ♥ suit will probably play for only 1 trick. Pass just looks too risky. So all in all I will try 2♠
  9. 5♥ for me but not sure if bidding to make or to save :)
  10. I don't disagree with your choice, but I'm not persuaded by your logic. well if he does have 5♥ and 4♠ I can expect to be playing 3 or 4♥ :)
  11. count me in the cacophony of bleeding ♥s
  12. I wouldn't use any special conventional meaning to 1♠ like unanimous but that is the call I would make like everybody else so far :P
  13. Q1)his hand is so good only X can express it Q2)see Q1 plus he may want you to show a ♠ stopper now if you have one Q3)partner has shown you the rock of Gibraltar (well the back side of it) just call 3♦ to show your near Yarborough
  14. IMO pronunciation of an acronym rather than using just the letters requires a sensible sounding word which will not be confused with others as well as ease of pronunciation of the acronym and IMO UDCA does not pass the latter test so I use "you dee cee a" EDIT: This is of course just a limitation of the English language
  15. Q1) I would probably risk an X Q2) pass feels like a total surrender to me. Q3) True, X is uncomfortable but tolerable because of the extra strength I would probably pass without as little as the Q♥or the Q♠ Q4) The problem I see for 1♦ is what are you going to call if the auction proceeds (1♣) 1♦ (P) 1♠ (P) ? Consequently that brings the 1♥ overcall into the picture as you could now call 2♦ over 1♠
  16. my gut feeling is that to make another call you need partner so hold specifically 2 of the top 3 ♥ and since he did not make a 4♥ call over 4♣ I am even more inclined to believe he doesn't have it.
  17. you mean after partner opened 1♥ I would bid the hand entirely differently. Since you didn't quote anybody and your post appeared immediately after mine not really sure who you are addressing
  18. Hamman eggs in one basket?
  19. Me! Which is why I think you are constrained to 3 choices 2♠,2NT, &3♦. The problem with them is bidding either ♦ or ♠ probably makes reaching 3NT if it is the right spot damned hard. And what makes me think that 2NT is the right call even if it doesn't rate to play as well as ♦ or ♠ as a part score
  20. given the type of game and the colors I would not expect partner to preempt with many hands even though you would at any other set of colors
  21. well he didn't need 7NT in his hand just reasonable odds that partner could have he needed. Barring that I would be filling out a recorder form.
  22. This sounds pretty good to me. BTW looks like another adage has bitten the dust. That being "It takes a minimal opening hand opposite a minimal opening hand to make game" If you believe that is the ♥ void worth that much?
  23. clearly the answer is yes we need this game try to check if partner really meant to bid 2M and to check if he didn't really mean to bid game and BTW the game try shows a 6th trump card :)
  24. you have no clue what the right action is, so you pass and see what happens as partner is still there plus LHO will have to act If you think you have no clue now, wait til LHO bids 3♥ and it's your turn. Do you think 4♦ now is a better call than 3♦ immediately? [snip] Maybe we need a lebensohl 2N gadget here: 3♣/♦ forcing and natural and 2N long in a minor, constructive....on second thought...flip this: 2N forcing in a minor, 3minor constructive. I mean, when was the last time anyone had a serious need for a natural 2N here? [snip] depends on how often you expect to hold something like [hv=s=sa7haq6dj854cj642]133|100|[/hv] in this auction. IMO at this point of the auction your expectation is for a part score battle which is another reason to pass as you don't have a clear fit and consequently they probably don't either.
