    MP. Both vul. ♠AJx ♥AQTxxx ♦K9xx ♣- 1♦ pas 1♥ 1♠ 1NT pas 2♠ Dbl pas pas ???
  2. South has UI after partner alerts 3♦. Is bidding 3NT with two small spades suggested by the UI? - Well, I don't believe it. If anything, 3♠ is heavily suggested over 4♥. But the 3NT bid is a very bad bid no matter what the previous bidding meant. A player who is capable to bid like that with UI, is completely capable to do it even with no UI, in same amount. So, no reason to change the score. NS just got lucky, this time.
  3. East didn't have an agreement for 2NT being a two-suiter, so, he misbid. West didn't alert, since he believed 2NT w/o an agreement should be natural 15-18. So, no MI, no adjust. End of story. Nonetheless, what does South mean with the "all the points are left" statement as a justification for his silly lead?!? Is he playing partner to have exactly 0 HCP without the chance of having as little as Jxx? How the hell could then the small diamond lead be good! Come on...
  4. It depends. Did they play for some club? How did the other pair play the 1st segment?

You could stop assuming that because someone doesn't bid like you do they must be cheating. I didn't say it's a must, but it is a possibility. That is the reason I wanna report the hand to the director. It is not my job to do the investigations. But I feel it is my duty (as an opponent) to put this hand to the light, as a matter of prevention. Sorry if you feel uncomfortable with this idea.

;) I would report this hand to the director in charge and to any disciplinary committee above him. Also, I would publish this hand in some kind of forum, with all names included, clearly. Would not tell anything to the guy who bid that, except if he insists to have a conversation with me, during my director-call (they usually do, this kind of people isn't smart enough to remain quiet). What else you can do?

Assuming there is a difference between 3♦ and 4♦, the later should show more shape and less points. Let's say, some hand like: QJxxx(x)-AKxxx(x)-?-?. For that reason I bid only 5♥.
  8. MP. They vul. ♠x ♥QT9xx ♦Tx ♣AKQxx 1♥ (1♠) p (p) ???
  9. Are you telling that the statement: "4♥ is natural, but partner is likely to forget" is equivalent to "4♥ is either natural or splinter in support of spades"?

    They are white. IMP. ♠- ♥JT ♦JTxx ♣KQJTxxx 1♥ (2♠) ?
  11. If that was the exact statement (which I doubt) - I could agree with you. In any case, MI is not the reason why the bidding went higher than 1♠x. Not trusting your own partner - is.
  12. Opening 1♣ with 3-3, opening 1♦ with 4-4 and a weak hand, and opening 1♣ with 4-4 and a strong hand is plain normal bridge, no matter of system nomenclature. Result stays. No misinformation. The player in cause didn't believe his partner, who passed 1♠x.
  13. Pass = 10 1♦ = 4 1♠ = 1 Dbl = 0,5 1NT = 0
  14. Well, maybe to you. But not to the player in case. He had a mega-bomb (15 balanced with ♠K and ♦A, almost the best possible hand) and didn't cue - clearly showing he doesn't understand much about bidding and that his hesitations are mostly not very revealing (a player who hesitates with a clear bid, probably can find a reason to hesitate with anything, at least that's my opinion). Besides that, I have to admit, when I'm not playing Serious 3NT or some kind of similar convention, I'm always in doubt if it is appropriate do skip a cue with a bad hand or I should cue always. Without a prior agreement this question probably doesn't have a clear answer, so, you always back to judgments which sometimes aren't so automatic, even if my example maybe wasn't the luckiest one. But probably you would be right if you would say that the hesitating hands with spade control are most frequent that the ones that are baddish with diamond cue. I would say about 60% to 40%. This can maybe make the ruling a little more complex.
  15. Screens in use. Suppose a case of a potential bid out of tempo (slow double). After the Director is called he collects the facts and goes away. After some time he returns and rules "result stands" because "pass of the penalty double isn't a LA". After the match, the players from the innocent side contact their team captain wanting to know if it is a case for the AC. This captain goes to the director and asks 2 questions: - Did you establish as a matter of fact that the double was for penalty. - Yes. - Did you establish as a matter of fact the hesitation. - Yes. - OK, if so, we want to go to the AC. - OK. Coming to the AC the first two things that director said were: a. I ruled that result stands because leaving the double in wasn't a logical alternative. b. Besides that, it isn't really sure that the hesitation happened. Three questions: 1. What do you thing about director's statements? 2. How appropriate is for the AC to determine facts (about the hesitation) on its own, in situation where the director did that earlier? 3. What is the proper conduct of this AC towards the director? Thank you.
  16. I thought a little about that. This situation isn't as it looks on the first sight. If partner bids a 4♥ in tempo (= no diamond cue), bidding on (say, 5♥, asking for spade cue) is more than clear-cut. If partner bids a slow 4♥ this can mean one of two things: a. he has a diamond control, but a poor hand, say: xx-KQxx-KQxx-QJx b. he hasn't diamond control, but has a nice hand (implying spade control), say: Ax-KQxx-?x-QJxxx. a. suggests passing. b. suggests bidding on. 4♥ out of tempo doesn't demonstrably suggest any action over other, so, bidding on is allowed. Really incredible for Croatian standards, but either the Director and the AC got it right. :D
  17. 1♥ 1♠ 2NT* 4♠ X# pass ?? * INV+ with 4+♥ Dbl = penalty # Slow double IMP. The line with spades is vulnerable, the other is not. ♠x ♥AKxx ♦xx ♣Q9xxxx
  18. The best way is to play: 1H-1S 1NT: 4S or 3S5H(32), 11-15 This way you find a lot of excellent 2S Moysians. 1H-1S 1NT-2C=relay 2D= 35(32) 2H= 6H4S 2S= 5H4S 2NT= 45(40) weak 3C= 4504, 14-15 3D= 4540, 14-15 3H= 6H4S, good 14-15 The only problem is with the 2533 hand - you should rebid 2m with it, probably 2D if you are playing Gazzilli.
  19. IMP, all love 3♥ Dbl 4♥ 4♠* pass ?? * slow ♠Axx ♥x ♦AKQxx ♣AKxx
  20. X = responsive (two-places or INV in hearts) 2NT = SO in clubs or INV in diamonds 3C = INV in clubs 3D = SO in diamonds 3H = SO in hearts
  21. Sure. After opponents open one of suit the 1st thing you should look for is - a slam.
  22. 1♠ 1NT pas 2♣=Stayman pas 2♥ pas 2♠=Cue pas 2NT pas ?? What is now: a ) 3♥ b ) 3♠ c ) 3NT?
  23. ♠AKQT9xx ♥Kx ♦x ♣Qxx 1♥ 1♠ 3♦ ?? 3♦ is invitational (around 15-16) with 5-5 1♥ 2♠ would have been 6♠ 9-11.
  24. I don't like 2♦. If 1♠ is 4+ spades, I have a clear double. If double is 4+ spades, I have a clear 1♠ (0-3 spades) bid.
