  1. We don't gripe about the ads. We gripe about the ones that slow your computer to a grinding halt, making BBO completely unusable. Look, I made an entire post without caps locking any of the words!
  2. Er - don't strain so much against noobs - sounds like you're in an unsound contract and you don't need to be. Nick The fact that there are TWO comments like this in this thread is absolutely mind boggling to me. How do you criticize his bidding without knowing ANYTHING about the HANDS or the AUCTION?!!?!?! MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, THEY BID COMPLETELY NORMALLY, AND DID NOT LAND IN THE BEST DOUBLE DUMMY CONTRACT!!! THIS HAPPENS SOMETIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVEN TO VERY GOOD PLAYERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. I think this is the best holding to open 1NT with.
  4. A very small minority of players play 4♣ is nonforcing, but most people play it is forcing. Consequently there is no real upper limit. I think AKxxx AKxxx as a general guideline is a good lower limit.
  5. I have hearts, partner. Please don't bid again.
  6. Not only that, but making space-taking overcalls of light third-seat openers is a big winner. But I would still only overcall 2♦ at favorable.
  7. Agree with this, except a negative double really puzzles the hell out of me.
  8. 1. We are not now doubling the original suit for penalty but 1N 2. Nobody that I know of plays penalty doubles of ordinary 1 level suit bids - only penalty passes. This an undefined hand type to me. Nick LOL
  9. Diamond vs randoms. I'll just make a passive lead and watch them go down.
  10. There are hands that aren't safe at the 5-level. I'm way more worried about partner bidding slam on hands that aren't safe at the 6-level though, especially with this misdescriptive 5♥ bid.
  11. I pass and think this is pretty clear.
  12. How do you bid these hands after south opens a 15-17 NT? Using other methods? [hv=d=s&v=n&n=saxhaxxdxxxcakjxx&s=sqjtxhkqtxdakcqxx]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv]
  13. I have never heard of any method which uses 3♥ NF. So after the opponents bid at the three-level you have no way of playing anything other than game - even a takeout double would force to game as partner can't be guaranteed to have a suit that he could bid at the three-level. With ♠ KJ10xxx ♥ xxx ♦ xxx ♣ x knowing that our side likely has the balance of strength I have a choice passing or forcing to game. Meanwhile if I want to be in game I have multiple ways to get there - forcing 3♠, jump to 4♠, Double then bid etc. It makes little sense to me to not have some way of competing for a part-score when the hand belongs to our side. Some people transfer here, which I think is a fine method. I said I have never heard of anyone playing 3♥ NF, not that I have never heard of anyone being able to play 3M. Also I disagree that double is forcing to game.
  14. I have never heard of any method which uses 3♥ NF. On the actual hand I bid 5♦. I don't think the hand is good enough to bid 5♣.
  15. 1♣ - (P) - 1♦ - (1♥) 2♠ - (P) - 3♦ - (P) 3♥ - (P) - 4♣ - (P) 4♥ - (P) - 6♦ - AP Getting to 6NT (by west) seems too hard, since west cannot really offer a choice of slams when there is so much to be gained by possibly ruffing clubs in hand. Edit: misread the hand initially
  16. Then don't open with 3M if that is what you think. Your argument is foolish to say the least. I would pull this to 4♠.
  17. Yeah. Old-fashioned standard is that this does indeed promise a good hand though, and some people still play it this way.
  18. Then it comes back around to you at 2♣. Going to double for penalties? I dunno. Sometimes people get a little overeager for penalty doubles at a low level instead of just bidding game. I don't know if this is one of those cases or not. No number of question marks and exclamation points can properly convey how I feel about this post.
