  1. I think doubling is overstating my values, and this hand has no flexibility for playing in hearts or NT (or defending diamonds). Despite how much I hate not bidding on shapely hands like this (with spades!), I think this is a pass. On many of the hands where doubling is right, I think I will get another shot anyway.
  2. I open 1♥ no matter who I am playing with.
  3. EDITED CAUSE USING THE F WORD IS BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD 10 IMPSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
  4. Please justify this statement. Have you been keeping a record of what happens on bad hands with 4-card spade support? I happen to be very happy with my record of bidding spades when I have spades. SOP dude. Yeah, actually I have about ten recent instances where I have bid 1N with a weak hand with 4 (or 5) card support. It usually works, although its hard to measure the effectiveness sometimes against 2♠. Pass is for sheep btw. What is your goal here? I have two: 1. There is an outside chance we have game. I've even heard about some people that open 1♠ with 10 tricks and a prime 24 :P 2. I want to 'buy it' at a low level if possible. This is what 1N frequently achieves. 3. I don't want my opponents to know how many trumps we have. 1. This has never occurred. Dude I was joking, I was logged in as kfay on BBO obv lol. 2. 1NT will not only allow the opponents to come in at the 2-level and have more space, but it will also give their interference more integrity. Coming in over 2♠ is less strongly defined than coming in over 1NT. 3. The opponents know how many trumps they have. I understand 1NT, but I think the preemptive effect of 2♠ just has too much going for it. I agree that pass has absolutely no merit.
  5. Pass = 8, 1NT = 0?!?!!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!!??!!? WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

  7. 2♠, I support with support, and this gives us a much better shot at stealing than 1N. The playing strength of this hand is about that of a minimum 2♠ bid anyway.
  8. U28 missed qualification by one VP. U26 drew Poland in the round of 8. They are good. U21 drew France in the round of 8. They are supposed to be good.
  9. IMPs, Red vs White, First Seat ♠K ♥AKJTxxx ♦Jxx ♣Ax 1♥ - (4♠) - P - (P) ?
  10. I'm out. If partner can't double, it is relatively unlikely we can make game. Going for a number here opposite nothing is also a very real possibility.
  11. 4h, this hand is not as good as it looks. xxx of spades = badddddddddddd.
  12. In general, I create example hands and then use them to make a point. I think you are processing this in the wrong order.
  13. I don't think 2NT is crazy, but I bid 1♥, because I have spades.
  14. lol, this was a hand from Beijing, and I should've just put it in "Interesting Hands." Double gets a spade lead, which is the only way to beat it, assuming declarer plays carefully.
  15. IMPs, White vs Red, Second Seat ♠AQT863 ♥87xx ♦KT ♣x 1♠ - (P) - 2♦ - (P) 2♥ - (P) - 3♦ - (P) 3♠ - (P) - 3NT - (P) (P) - ?
  16. 3N, this rates to make very frequently. 3♠ rates to go down too, but I think it will go for 300 most of the time. Also, I disagree that the first double should be penalty-oriented.
  17. I pass unless I am playing with Han, in which case I have extras.
  18. IMPs, Red vs White, Second Seat ♠x ♥QTxx ♦AKJxxx ♣Kx (1♣) - 1♦ - (1♠) - 1NT Dbl - ? Edit: Dbl = penalty, obv.
  19. 4♦ should not say anything about diamonds, it just says "my hand is pretty good for slam."
  20. Double, nobody steals from cleeeeeeeeeee.
  21. I think this is a good problem. Even if partner has 3♥, the hand may play very badly in hearts. It is not my style to avoid game if possible, and from constructing hands, it seems likely that 5♣ will be more likely to make than 3NT, so I will bid 5♣. I am interested in what a simulation has to say about this hand.
