  1. Was 2♣ GF? If it was, I would bid 3♦, otherwise I would bid 3♥, which I hate, but nothing else is much better.
  2. 3NT seems totally clear; 5♦ seems far away, pass is ridiculous.
  3. 4♠, isn't this hand the reason we play invitational splinters?
  4. On 1, I bid 4♠, which was an expensive phantom when partner held ♥KQJx among other defensive tricks in his hand. On 2, I agree with the unanimous vote for 4♠. My partner, a good player, passed, and even though I thought 4♠ was pretty clear, I said I'd give it around. I had a very nicely fitting hand: ♠KTxxx ♥KT9 ♦xx ♣xxx.
  5. Matchpoints, Red vs White, First Seat ♠Ax ♥K9xxx ♦AT9x ♣Ax 1♥ - (2♠) - P - (P) ?
  6. 1) IMPs, All White, First Seat ♠J9xx ♥void ♦9xxxx ♣ATxx P - (P) - 1♣ - (1♥) Dbl - (2♣) - 2♠ - (4♥) ? 2) IMPs, All White, Fourth Seat ♠AJxxx ♥Qx ♦Axxx ♣Ax (P) - P - (1NT) - 2♦* (Dbl) - 2♥** - (P) - 2♠ (P) - 3♠ - (P) - ? *2♦ = ♦+M. **Pass or correct. Do you agree with 2♦ (you have a natural 2♠ available)? Your opponents don't know what double means; righty suspects "stolen bid", so these guys aren't very good. Your call? Edit: Sorry, the auction for problem 2 was slightly wrong.
  7. Wow, I think this hand is easily worth a strong invite to game, and I might even GF to make the subsequent strain determination easier.
  8. I agree with South's bidding, and don't understand why N didn't bid 2♣ instead of 2♥, after which it shouldn't be too challenging to reach game.
  9. I agree with the initial pass because of the awful heart holding. Now I bid 3♠ and pray partner isn't on some kind of 1255 hand.
  10. 1) 4♣, since I am probably going to have to do this anyway. Make my hand slightly better and I would bid 3NT as a sort of two-way shot. 2) I assume I don't have any gadget to deal with this hand, or else this wouldn't be here, so I would just bid 3NT.
  11. Let's say you have an auction like this, playing 2/1: 1♦ - (1♠) - 2♥ - (P) 3♦ What would you think 3♦ is in "expert standard"? By "Depends", I mean that in certain situations you would play it 1-round forcing and in other situations you would play it NF.
  12. I think xx is rescue here. I can't construct any hands that passed 2♦ and now really think 2♦xx is making and that they have no good save. But on the actual hand, I think pass is automatic.
  13. I would not expect any field to look at 6-4 and think "hmm, 1NT." That said, this hand is way too good to bid 1NT anyway, even if you were that sick (I am not).
  14. 89, this game is better than bridge. Edit: Joined the 91 club!
  15. I'll check on aces before bidding 6♠.
  16. 2♣ seems clear to me. I would not actually be surprised if 1NT was the winning action, which I might do if you made the hand worse (but kept ♦AKQxxx).
  17. MPs, All Red, Fourth Seat ♠T965 ♥JT43 ♦A74 ♣42 (1♦) - 1♥ - (2♣) - ?
  18. 1) Matchpoints, Red vs White, Third Seat ♠765 ♥75 ♦AT4 ♣KQ874 1♦ - (P) - 1NT - (2♠) P - (P) - ? What is your call? If you double, it will go (Rdbl)-P-(P) back to you. 2) Matchpoints, All Red, Third Seat ♠753 ♥AKJT8 ♦Q2 ♣KQ8 2♠ - (P) - 2NT - (P) 3♦* - (Dbl) - 3♠ - (4♦) P - (P) - ? 3♦ shows a bad hand with a good suit. Your call?
  19. What system do you play? 3♠ looks totally normal in 2/1 after 1♠-2♣ ; 2♠ - 2NT. Landen-Pratap took a little bit of a position by believing 3NT was better than 3♠ with the strong red cards and singleton club.
  20. 6♥ seems normal to me.
