  1. Partner is taking a shot with a reasonable hand and diamonds nutted. I like where my cards are, so I will just double. If partner takes this as responsive, that is okay, but I think this is business.
  2. IMPs, Red against White, Third Seat ♠9xx ♥Kx ♦KTx ♣AKJ9x 3♠ - (4NT) - Dbl - (5♣) Dbl - (5♦) - ? 1) Do you agree with your double of 4NT? 2) What now?
  3. I passed. +500 for a top :). Double-dummy, it could've gone for only 300, but it was always going down.
  4. East has a takeout double the first time. 3♥ is preemptive by default, though I could be convinced that this is not best in this particular auction; a mixed raise seems better. 3♦ is available for a strong heart raise. West should bid 4♥ anyway.
  5. Matchpoints, All White, Second Seat ♠Ax ♥A987 ♦AQJTx ♣Ax (P) - 1♦ - (2♥) - Dbl (P) - ?
  6. As far as outrageous errors go, I don't think this is so extreme. North simply thought he was promising ♠+♦ and that partner was just competing. North just has to learn how to play negative doubles.
  7. I would say 1♥ unanimous, but looks like the poll is practically even (!!!) between the two right now.
  8. 3♣?!? I think this was where the auction went nuts. I don't like 5♥ by S, but that's way less criminal than north's silliness.
  9. An IMP table and a working knowledge of arithmetic will help you figure this out very easily, if you assume that the only possible results are making game or down 1. In practice some other things can happen, such as down 2 (good for you), or getting doubled and going down 2+ (bad for you). By the way, I don't know where you got that NV number from :/.
  10. ♥K; LHO sounds like a man with a lot of diamonds.
  11. I would bid 3♥, and bidding over 4♥ is wow-bad. I am a little paranoid about my stiff spade though, but if partner is strong and balanced, he can just bid 3N. If he has a strong 1-suiter, my hand is definitely good enough to this this way. From 4♥, I assume partner is something like 19-20 balanced with 4 hearts.
  12. No, I thought it was normal B). Wow, 6-4 gets no love around here. When is the last time one of you actually got nailed at these colors? Is it actually bad if partner bids 4♥? I think the lead concern is the only big one, but RHO is at least reasonably likely to declare.
  13. Here is a debate between matmat and me over what constitutes a normal preempt. White vs Red, IMPs, First Seat ♠Qx ♥987xxx ♦QTxx ♣x What is your call?
  14. Two-Level: Something like a very good weak 2 to a really bad opener with 6 cards. A lot of people play this as 11-15 or so, but I dislike this a lot. Three-Level: I do not do this, ever. Nothing good can happen from doing this without discussion. Four-Level: 4M could be made on a wide range of hands. 4m is impossible.
