I pass and don't feel very tempted to double, though not as much as "WTP."

So on the actual hand, partner is ♠xxx ♥AKJTx ♦xxx ♣xx, so they are clearly cold for 6 in any of their three fits. 5♥ will not get them to shut up, and they are likely to end up in 6♠ regardless of what you do. 7♥ will cost you only 1100, but obviously, nobody is bidding that.

1♠. I like to bid on 5431 shape, and I like to bid spades.

4♠. Passing 3♠x is not possible for me.

I would bid 5♥. I do not see how bidding 5♦ can help anyone but the opponents, since there is no way we are bidding 6-anything.

I already talked to Phil about this, but I think I have to defend 2♣ just a little (I am a 2♥ bidder now but was briefly a 2♣ bidder). What are partner's most likely shapes, assuming we open 1♦ on all 4-4m hands? 1345: 2♣ is better 1435: 2♥ is a little bit better, probably. 2434: 2♥ is better 2335: 2♣ is better 2434: 2♥ is better Also, if we bid 2♣, our hand becomes dummy instead of partner's. It's possible that partner is even 1336 with bad clubs. Bidding 2♣ may also get us to hearts anyway when partner has a very strong hand. Anyway, I think it is unlikely that one is dramatically +EV over the other.

This is much higher than I expected and enough evidence to convince me that 4♠ is likely better. Thanks.

Yes, the issue is, how likely is it that partner has a weak side suit when we already know he has a weak spade suit? Is it more likely that: 1) We have 9 tricks in either contract all day? 2) A bad lead against 3N hands the contract to us?

Nothing is really great, and I feel stupid just bidding 6♣. I guess I will start with 4♠, which as far as I know, does not agree hearts.
