  1. x = responsive. I'd double if only to get partner to declare.
  2. It's not often that I'm this happy to make a negative double.
  3. I once saw four different suits all of same rank played at T13 (all tens).
  4. A hand which has a lot of offense but not enough defense to defend anything doubled. Something like x ♥KJT9xxx ♦KQJx ♣x seems reasonable.
  5. 1) What does this have to do with your decision to act here? I think this is a pretty big stretch anyway; I'd estimate our odds of making 4♠ here just based on the auction and my hand as very much under 10%. 2) Oh my god, there is no reason for anyone's signature to be that long, ever.
  6. Okay. My partner bid 6♥, and in the post-mortem, the four of us talked about the decision. I seemed to be the only person who felt 5♥ was better than 6♥, and I'm glad to know I am not crazy. The complete hand: [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sjxxhxxxdakj9xxcq&w=sxxhaxdxcjt9xxxxx&e=satxxhxdqxxxcakxx&s=skqxxhkqjt987dxxc]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv]
  7. The heart suit is so good, some might even upgrade it to a 7-bagger.
  8. IMPs, Red vs White, 1st Seat You're playing in a home game with reasonable opponents and partner and pick up: ♠KQxx ♥KQJT987 ♦xx ♣void 1♥-(4♣)-4♥-(5♣) ? Your call?
  9. I'd bid 2♣. 3♣ is okay but too much for me with flat shape and only six.
  10. I think it is not surprising that double dummy, 4♠ is better. One big factor of bidding 3NT is that we will get a bad lead very, very frequently. In fact, if I bid 3N, the one thing I do not really want led is spades.
  11. And how is that different than the offshape double showing extras? I think it is obvious that there is some shape-points tradeoff in making takeout doubles, so I felt the question was whether an offshape double provides significant extras. I think the answer is no.
  12. Oh, yeah, this is pretty logical, and I forgot to include it.
  13. IMPs, All White ♠AKQxxx ♥xx ♦xxx ♣xx 1NT-(P)-? Partner opens a 15-17 NT in first seat. Texas to 4♠ or 3N? A simulation would be nice, if anyone wants to run one of those.
  14. It doesn't promise "extras", but I'd auto-double on any 4414 10-count (okay, maybe not QJxx Qxxx K Qxxx) and auto-pass any 4333 10-count. Double on the first, 1♠ on the second.
  15. Some people play a relay structure over this (the below is shamelessly copied from Gnome), where opener usually puppets to 2♦ (any minimum without 6 spades) to allow the 2♣ bidder to finish describing his hand. So over, say, 1♠-2♣, opener usually bids 2♦ and responder proceeds with: 2♥ - balanced GF, 2♠ 2♠ - balanced GF, 3♠ and 5+♣ 2NT - balanced GF, 3♠, 4 or fewer ♣
  16. I felt great the first time I found a play like this at the table. In my opinion, this is a really good problem for B/I players to think about.
  17. I don't hate 1N or 2♦ too much and would probably go for 1N. 2♥ is crazy. 2♣ is masterminding for the hell of it.
  18. 1♦ is clear for me. I am more than happy to reach 3N opposite a random GF.
  19. ♠AKTxx ♥Ax ♦A ♣KQxxx and ♠QJx ♥KJx ♦xxx ♣AJxx maybe. I think double is just extras with no other suitable call, and 5♠ is a 3-card LR with little if any diamond waste. 6♣ seems like a grand try which is at least 5-4 and probably 5-5 (can't be 6-5). This seems more useful than asking for second-round club control to me.
  20. 2♠. Edit: I could've sworn that the original auction was a 2♥ overcall of 1♠. Well, if partner bid Michaels, I have an extremely easy 4♠.
  21. What do people play the difference between relay->4♥ and 4♥ as?
  22. Without discussion, I would always assume this is penalty. However, I am having trouble actually constructing a hand that would pass initially and now double for penalty.
  23. 2N, pull 3♦ back to 3♥ or pass 3♣.
