  1. 4♥ without thinking too hard. We don't have to have ten tricks for this to work out well.
  2. Pass. RHO bid at unfavorable, and I have very few values in either of his suits. This might go down 1, but I would be very surprised to collect 500.
  3. 2♠. The void may not be pulling its weight if spades are 4-4 and our trumps aren't so great. Partner should be bidding very aggressively with 5+♠ anyway.
  4. I think this is close and I would just 2♦.
  5. I know at the table that I'd auto a trump. After having thought about it for a little while, I still don't see why I could reasonably expect a trump to be less successful than anything else.
  6. OMGNO. Anyway, partner has no idea what to do, but I'll probably still invite. There is some tendency for partner to reject with bad hands (two trumps, or gasp, even one) where I don't really want to be there and accept with good hands. We are probably getting some sort of friendly club lead, so I wouldn't count partner's club values as wasted.
  7. What does this mean? I don't understand this. Wayne takes the time to answer a question that you have for the better players on the forum, which Wayne certainly qualifies as, and you criticize the way in which he gives his response. Mildly kidding or not, I think it is in bad taste.
  8. If you are going to bid twice, make them both hearts.
  9. I would always assume 3♥ is forcing without discussion. I think there is a reasonable argument for 3♥ to be NF here, but it would definitely be forcing if partner had overcalled at the two-level. I think I would 3♥, since I don't want to commit 100% to strain just yet.
  10. Am I the only one who thinks 4♥x is making overtricks and that 4♠ is getting killed? Call me a coward, but I'll check this out without too much thought, the only other possibility being 4♠. I think that if you x again, partner is pulling almost never.
  11. Okay, like everyone else, I 5♣'d at the table, though it was not nearly as cold as everyone thinks it should be; partner was 3046. Maybe partner's hand wasn't good enough to bid this way.
  12. This is really the point, I think. I wasn't sure at the table if partner had to be 6-5 to bid this way.
  13. Matchpoints, Red vs White, Third Seat ♠xxx ♥JTxx ♦KTx ♣Qxx 1♣ - (1♠) - P - (2♥) 3♦ - (3♥) - ?
  14. lol http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=24601
  15. It turns out on the actual hand that any sort of shift is better than trump continuations. It allows him to set up diamonds for only down 1. Shifting either causes declarer to allow you guys to score your trumps separately (pard has ♠Jxx and a stiff club) or to get tapped, allowing us to score our hearts. Any shift will probably lead to down 3 or 4.
  16. Unless I had serious trust issues with my partner, I would assume LHO overcalled on a crappy 4-card suit.
  17. MPs, White vs Red ♠K954 ♥A64 ♦KQ94 ♣73 The opponents have this uncontested auction: P - 1NT 2♣ - 2♦ 3NT - P So you are on lead against 3NT playing 4th best and standard honor leads, with 1NT 15-17. I think the ♦K is clear at IMPs, but what do you do at MPs with this 12-count?
  18. Playing a middle-of-the-line 2/1 style, I would open this 1♠ only NV at MPs. I am a big fan of opening 1M whenever possible at this form of scoring and vulnerability.
  19. IMPs, White vs Red, Third Seat ♠AK3 ♥AJT9 ♦9 ♣JT8xx P - (P) - 1♣ - (P) 1♥ - (P) - 3♥ - (Dbl) Rdbl - (3♠) - Dbl - AP Lead: ♠K 1) Assuming that you could not have bid 3♦ here to show an invitational splinter, do you agree with your bidding and opening lead? [hv=d=w&v=n&n=sqt54hxdaxxxcakqx&w=sak3hajt9d9cjt8xx]266|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] ♠K - ♠4 - ♠6 - ♠2 2) UDCA, but no other discussion (I'm not sure what partner's spade spot is supposed to mean here anyway, if anything). Your continuation?
  20. I think it is clear to pass vulnerable with such bad texture in my suits and reasonable defense. Bidding is aiming for a fairly narrow target (I make something and they make 1NT), since I think game is fairly unlikely.
  21. Yeah, this is sort of what I meant by COG (bid 5♥ only if you have no diamond suit). Sorry, it was very poorly worded.
  22. If my partner has even heard of an SOS redouble, I would do that.
