  1. Splinter. Other GF hands bids 2D.
  2. I would suggest just keep practising until you get used to it. It's pretty much the opposite of standard carding but more beneficial. So if you're used to standard carding (high encourage, hi-lo=even) then it'll just take time until you're more fluent in UDCA. When I was going through that transition I would sometimes get mini-headaches because I was too used to high card = encourage/even.
  3. Weak Jump Shifts aren't that bad, I would say they're pretty helpful. It gives partner (opener) more leeway since our hand is much more defined. For example, immediately jumping to 2M after 1x-2M can show about 4-8 and bidding it slowly like 1x-1M-2x/2y-2M now shows 9-11 range. This will be very helpful in setting up GF auctions when you then bid 1M then later jump to 3M. Imagine the awkwardness if the auction goes 1C-1H-2C-3H? If you don't play weak jump shifts, 3H now shows an invitational hand...does that mean you have to bid 4H with a GF and completely bypass all the bidding space, or do you start off with a "fake 2D" then later bid hearts which may give partner an improper judgement? The hand you provided, after 1D-2H (presuming that is weak) I would bid 3D with your hand. Though I would not be surprised if 2H was our best partscore.
  4. I agree with 2D the first time round. I would now definitely bid 4C as my hand looks very fitting with partner's. I would be tempted with 5C as well, though I'm not sure what bids distinguish an invitational and a GF sequence? If 3C is signoff, 4C invitational, I guess bidding 2S then later bidding clubs is the GF sequence. So I will choose that road if it's interpreted that way. With my lack of spade intermediates, 3NT contract isn't in the picture for me.
  5. If X was agreed for partner to lead their shortest major, I would X.
  6. Disagree with 2C. I would've bid 3C which isn't GF but distributional sort of hand. Typical hand is a 5-5 and some concentrated values, but here I have 6-6 which should compensate it :D My style is to XX with strong hands. But given that our constraints are 2C NF or 3C GF, I would bid 2C. After this auction, I now bid 4S.
  7. I would bid 2S. We have a great potential of a slam.
  8. You hold: xx T98 A9xx AJxx RHO is dealer. They are playing 2/1 and have an uncontested auction of: 1♠-1NT 2♥-3♠ 4♠ 1NT=Forcing, 3♠= 3 card Limit Raise. What's your lead?
  9. Easy double now. Good things can happen.
  10. 1st at nil? Never. It's undisciplined and partner won't like it.
  11. 2C. Certainly not embarrassed about my hand, it looks pretty average for a 12count to GF the auction. If I already am treating this hand as a GF I would not bid 1S because the auction can get quite complicated after that and I don't want to lie about my shape too. Nothing's stopping us from finding a spade fit after 2C too.
  12. Getting to a slam on this hand is just too hard.
  13. agree with jdonn and thanking my RHO.
  14. defend and lead a spade. Win CA and continue another spade to break the entry.
  15. Apologies, I just wanted to see what versions people play over 2C-2D-2H. I searched for previous threads, but not sure what people found 'best'. We currently play 2C- 2D: 4+ 2H: Double Negative 2S/3C/3D/3H: positive, 6+ suit with 2 of top 3 honours 2NT: 5/5 majors GF 2C-2D-2H puppets to 2S, then 1. 2NT=24+ bal 3C/3D=H's and m 3H/3S/3NT= ? 2. 2NT=24+bal 3C=H's & D's 3D=6+H's 3H=H's & 4S 3S=H's & C's 3NT=6H322 NF (Ignoring that responder 'doesn't have to bid the forced 2S')
  16. Easy 1S for me. I'm not afraid of the auction being passed out because of my 1-1 in the round suits and we play a style (which has become mainstream) of light responses so partner will very likely be responding. Anyway, I'm not that HCP "rich" so opening 2C may still induce preempts and I won't be liking the auction then if it does happen.
  17. 2D. Let's bid out our hand.
