  1. This seems like an easy 2C for me. Hate X, don't like raptor nor pass and I guess 1S would be my 2nd choice.
  2. That's what I thought too.
  3. Even playing precision I doubt I can be persuaded to pass on the first round with the given hand. Bidding can lead up to so many upsides. I will now bid 3D.
  4. I have got like the worst possible (lack of) support for partner, so 3NT seems a stand out.
  5. 8 card suit with nice cards and in GF auction. Seems like easy 4D.
  6. Don't mind either 2D or 2H. 2D isn't that attractive with that suit and 2H isn't that attractive since you only have 3 of them. On the bright side, diamonds is a 5card suit and the club shortage (we'll be ruffing with our short trump(s)) will be counteracting with our 3 card heart suit. Maybe my answer depends on who I'm playing with and if they can expect a 3card Major or not, but I think I'll tend to stick with 2D.
  7. happy birthday, have a good one mate
  8. ELC is quite a subtle method. 4-2-5-2 is certainly better than 4-3-5-1. Better auctions are after a 1♠ opening holding 2-4-5-2 or similar. To double then bid 2♦ over 2♣ is really just saying "Damn I hoped you'd bid hearts." There are other examples following a preempt. Say 3♣ is opened in front of you and you hold ... ♠AQJ6 ♥AJ965 ♦K3 ♣72 Now it seems clear to double and plan to convert 3♦ to 3♥. This seems a useful agreement. However, agree with 1♠ overcall on the posed problem. I haven't seen many players who play ELC, and the ones who don't I think we all tend to do an offshape t/o X with those 2452 hands these days so we can get into the auction. At least it's the mainstream here in the forums. As to the actual hand, I'd also overcall 1S. And that I also hate ELC :)
  9. A negative double usually shows 4cards in the unbid major (can be more). It shows both majors if both minors have been bid and it shows both minors when both majors have been bid, like what cherdano said. Eg. 1C - (1S) - X X here is a negative double, showing 4+H's saying "partner, I would've responded 1H if RHO didn't overcall". So it's either any hand with 4H, or if it's 5+H it would be roughly <10HCP because with more you would just bid 2H. IMO, it's too unplayable if it should promise both unbid suits because more often than not you just need to get the major suit in. Otherwise agree with what the others have said.
  10. your partner should rebid 2S. That is nowhere near extras (which 3D should show)
  11. It's a style thing. I would open because my AQ are in the same suit, 2 bullets, and I have an easy rebid (not to mention 4-4 in majors as well).
  12. 1. 1H. We could belong in a heart contract and we can always revert back to clubs if not. 2. 3NT. Too hard to determine where our perfect strain is, so you can't do anything else other than 3NT.
  13. It depends on the auction. If it flows out well partner may be able to splinter in our suit or we may even be able to "splinter" our own suit to partner, AKA bluhmer.
  14. yeap, 3c/d/oM is showing shortness in standard jacoby.
  15. Agree that it depends on the length of my LHO's suit, so put me down for 3C. 3C stayman then bid 3NT over partner's 3H is nice for COG, never thought about it.
  16. depends which state you're in :)
  17. That's what I do, with bidding 2 of their suit is the michaels.
