  1. Holding: ♠KQ9xxx ♥T ♦Axx ♣Qxx You open 1♠ and your partner bids 3NT which could be 13-15 balanced (2 spades) or to play. What do you bid and why?
  2. endplays or throw-ins in bridge are more common than zugzwangs in chess, right?
  3. I root for Toppy now. I think he can get that bishop in the corner and black is kinda trapped in its own web... But now Anand is back...I think white couldve taken that bishop to some profit...
  4. So: ♠9xx ♥Kxxx ♦Jx ♣AKJx is less likely than: ♠9xxx ♥Axxx ♦Jx ♣AKx ?
  5. You see this bidding: 1♦-1♠ 2♦-2NT 3NT-Pass And your partner leads the ♣A. ♠AQ ♥T7 ♦AQT965 ♣942 ♠T62 ♥Q983 ♦K32 ♣T85 You're playing UDCA and the ♣8 is you first card. Your partner now plays the ♥2 to dummy's 7, your 8 and declarer's J. Next comes a diamond to the ♦Q which you win, what do you return? why? ♣A, 2, 8, 6 ♥2, 7, 8, J ♦8, 7, Q, K ??? Extra questions: 1. Say the Ace lead asks for count (or attitude) instead of attitude (or count), does that change your answer? 2. Does the genre, style, or level of your partner change your answer?
  6. I have only 6 tricks. Diamonds appear to be 5-2. I need two extra-tricks in clubs, so I'll start with small club to the 9 (in case LHO has a singleton honor). I plan to get to this ending with the lead in my hand: --- KJ 9 --- 5 5 J --- And probably play a spade to RHO so that he leads a heart.
  7. This after a fart joke is, somehow, interesting.
  8. What's the source for this comment? I read it got that name for that was what American soldiers ate in France during WWI.
  9. I guess partner can't pass 3♠. Then that's the bid. I was thinking about 5♠ though...
  10. I didn't see Madala in the Italian team...
  11. 2♠. 3♠ seems a bit too much, though I'm kinda repenting.
  12. Can someone explain the lightning on top of the volcano?
  13. I play Baron: 2NT-3NT asks partner to start bidding 4-card suits in ascending order. It'll probably go 2N-3N-4♦-6♦.
  14. I was gonna say ♠x to the A and ♠Q and then I noticed...After ♠A, ♣x to the ♣A, ♣x to the ♣K and let the ♣9 ride (throwing a heart from dummy) unless it's covered.
  15. [hv=d=w&v=b&n=sqj764ha92d84ct93&w=s85hq765daqj93c84&e=st92hk3dkt7ca7652&s=sak3hjt84d652ckqj]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Bidding goes: Pa Pa Pa 1♣ 1♦ 1♠ 2♣* 2♠/Pa** 3♦ 3♠*** All Pass The 2♣ bid wasn't alerted till South had already bid 2♠. When South asked and was told it was a support-showing cue-bid the 2♠ bid was changed to Pass. North bid 3♠ and the Director was called to the table by West. So: 1. What should the ruling be on the present situation? 2. What should the ruling be had the Director been called after the late alert and allowed the change of call? 3. Is 16.D.1 applicable in this situation?
  16. Red vs white, ♠Kxx ♥9xx ♦AQJxx ♣Tx Partner opens 2♦ multi, you bid 3♥ (pass or correct), LHO bids 4♥ and it goes, pass, pass to you. What now?
  17. [hv=d=w&v=e&n=s973hq54dk8543ck4&w=sq5hakt872dt9c763&e=sk42h963daqj76ct5&s=sajt86hjd2caqj982]399|300|Scoring: XIMP[/hv] 2♦* Pa 3♥** 4♥*** Pa Pa 4♠ X 5♥ X All pass 2♦ is Multi, 3♥ is Pass or correct, 4♥ was a two-suiter (appartently). 4♥ wasn't alerted to anyone from any side of the screen. It is not in the convention card though. How would you rule?
  18. Disturbing. I think I had seen it before. It-s like that perfect system they keep advertising in my gmail, gee!
  19. I concur with laziness. Yesterday I was playing 3♠x with: ♠9x ♥T9xx ♦KJxx ♣9xx ♠QJTxxxx ♥Qx ♦--- ♣AKTx I got to 3♠ and was doubled by West who had opened a diamond, rebid 2NT over her partner's hearts, which were bid twice once of them after the NT. Ace of hearts was led and I had in my mind from the beginning that West had to have 4 spades to AK. A club ran to my ten and I played a low spade towards dummy, the 9 winning, East playing low. I just played a spade then! I didn't realize West had only AK now! I noticed it when I was recounting the boards from memory in the postmortem. Very bad.
  20. I said pass cause OP had written 2♥ instead of 2♦. I think I'd go for 4♥. Pass by partner and RHO seem weird, though, so something else might be right.
