  1. Where's Fluffy? Someone's to blame for today's debacle and he's the nearest one...

  3. Apologies accepted Gwnn, but don't let it happen again.
  4. 17) 1 18) 1 19) 2 20) 2 21) 1 22) 2 23) 1 24) 1 25) 1 26) 0 27) 2 28) 1 29) 1 30) 1 31) 1 32) 1 I might change some, though.
  5. I thought 5♣ was too much as I didn't have diamonds but then I realized my partner's HCP's should be somewhere and the worst that can happen is that we stop in 5♠ if he doesn't cue-bid diamonds.
  6. I see they talk about Level 4 (where the regulation will take place) and about Level 5 (where you can play anything). They say there are no changes to the Levels below (does that mean that you can use 1♥/1♠ to show something else?) and that clubs and county associations can elect to continue doing what they were doing previously. So if the previous paragraph is right I don't see why there has to be so much fuss about it. I'm sure some places will allow you to play what you want and then you'll go and play in those places, as easy as that, right?

  8. Double is better than 2♣. Pass might be better than 2♣.
  9. Are there extra points for answering fast?
  10. Excellent advice by gwnn, opening 1♥ with that hand is without danger with a spade void and 21 HCP's outside (i.e. you won't be left to play 1♥, one of the 'fears' you may have). At this point (2♣-2♠) you can only bid 3♥, I guess your pd would bid 4♥ and you 4♠ (which should be a cue-bid); he'll key-card and you'll respond 5NT which he'll take to 6♥. I guess your partner would bid just 5♥ with no heart Ace in his hand.
  11. First European team to win a match :D !
  12. 2♣, there are too many possibilities of 1♠ being passed around when game is on (xxx xxxxx Qxx xx). 2NT with this 5-4 without clubs is not very nice either.
  13. I have that one in my hands but I'm reading The No Trump Zone, The Catcher in the Rye & 1965-1969 Nebula Award winners (Short stories and Novellas). 'A boy and his dog' was great (I started with the one at the end) but 1065 ones are weird ("Repent Harlequin" was sort of wtf). you must have seen the Don Johnson movie ....wasn't the short story by Harlan Ellison? I'd love to watch the movie, and yes, that's the author.

  15. Best post ever. I think the American team did a great job containing the English and creating several opportunities, they played at the same level.
  16. I double now, since I didn't last time.
  17. 3♥, for I think it keeps 3NT as an option. Like spades 5-4-4 and going down with 2 ruffs and 2 diamonds...
  18. I'm not sure it's always been like this. I remember they were very enjoyable in previous cups. 1990 Argentina Cameroon was a great 1st game. I even thought it was me, losing the taste for watching the game, but then a guy from TV said the next best punishment for kids who don't do as they're told would be to have them watch the Uruguay-France encounter...
  19. I thought the South African man at the arch was the line... I guess I gotta go read the laws...At least I was right about the lame game. Oh! And the South African goal was pretty nice.
  20. Is it just me or was it sort of slow? I didn't see the first half but I think they robbed Mexico, was the line guy from Arizona?
  21. I think you were defining 'bidding system'. I use the word bidding (and many people do too) in the sense of auction, i.e. all the calls made in order to get to a contract.
