[hv=d=e&v=n&s=shaq93dakj2cat752]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] After RHO opens 1C (ACOL) what is your bid? If you start with a double it comes back to you via 1S by P, how do you continue. When we stumbled through this last night we could not work out what all the following bidding meant. (1C) - 1NT = 15-18 bal (1C) - X - 1S - 1NT = 18-19 bal What do (1C) - 3NT (1C) - X - 1S - 2NT (1C) - X - 1S - 2C (1C) - X - 1S - 2C - 2D - 2/3NT (1C) - X - 1S - 3NT mean? Thinking (1C) - X - 1S - 3NT is some sort of strong balanced do you convert to 4S with KJT974 52 9865 8

[hv=d=n&v=e&s=st8hq2daqtct86432]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] After P opens 1S and LHO overcalls 2H what is your bid. If it makes any difference playing a simple 2/1 system.

Hearts did split 2-2 I was thinking is it worth ducking the first diamond and seeing what comes back, hoping for a spade or even better a club, I think I remember someone calling this (or something simmilar) a muppet throw in. Or is the risk of a singlton diamond too high? The double by opener was extra values.

[hv=v=b&n=sk6h942da8caj9832&s=sjt7hak8753d542cq]133|200|[/hv] These were both of the hands. Bidding went (1D) - 2H - (P) - 3D (x) - 4H Is there a play problem here after 3♦ lead?

Continuations after 1M-2NT GF
DWM replied to DWM's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
With the 4M bid being a slam killer I take it with a min you should make a shape showing bid wherever possible. With a 17+ point hand bid 3M almost regardless of shape as we are 90% slam after that bid. With a good 14 to a bad 17 ???? AJxxx AJxx x AJx KQJxx AKQx x xxx I am not sure if the two hands above make the point I am trying to make or not. Both hands have 15 points 5-4-1-3 shape, but one has 7 losers and the other has 5. After 1S - 2NT should they both bid 3D or 3NT(15-16) or one each way. -
[hv=d=e&v=n&n=sj543ha93dkj93ca8&s=sakq72hk52dacq954]133|200|Scoring: MP[/hv] We have decided to play 1M - 2NT as GF for now, and have the following agreements. 1M - 2NT 3M = 17+ 3NT = 15-16 4M = 12-14 new suit at 3 level = shortage new suit at 4 level = 5-5 With these agreements and hands above should we be in slam? More generally, when we have agreements such as above when does it become more important to show shape rather than strength? When we show shortage or 5-5 should we have more than a min?

Only bid was 2NT by south. Playing 2nds and 4ths P leads 2♠ [hv=d=n&v=n&n=s94ht763dqt762c93&e=saj7hj42dk54ct854]266|200|Scoring: MP[/hv] Dummy plays the 9 Which card do you play? If you win with the Ace which card do you return?

[hv=d=w&s=sat9hk9da9642c982]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] After (P) - 2S - (P) I assume you do not take any action as both ops have passed, is this correct? IF the bidding continues (P) - 2S - (P) - P (3H) - P - (4H) do you do anything now?
-
Bidding has gone (P) - 1S - 2H - (4H) (X) what do the following bids mean XX Pass 4S
-
[hv=d=w&v=n&s=sk6h942da8caj9832]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Bidding has gone (1D) - 2H - P 2H being a WJS albeit 2nd seat Vun.

This looks like the typical situation that I would double on principle on. This also looks like the typical situation that I give away loads of extra IMP's. If I have remembered my lessons of the past I would pass, I have showed that I have a good hand for an initial pass. Although I do not think I have shown that we have a double fit by bidding 4♠ I have shown that P that him looking for extra tricks in hearts had not softened my hand. I do not have much more to say.

What do you play over 2NT?
DWM replied to paulg's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
The main difference I play over 2NT compaired to 1NT is after a negative response to Stayman bidding a major is now smolen rather than 5-4 in majors get out 3♠ is still minor suit stayman -
Rather than focusing on a general pick up partner and focusing more on a regular partnership, albeit B/I. I would have thought it was less memory strain to treat 1M - 2NT as 10+ card support with or without interference. So far looking into this I can see the main difference between 3+ and GF is the repeat of the major at the 3 level bid. In one situation its slam interest and the other its min. I am just not sure if I am missing a trick here or not. That is with the condition that we are both B/I and have a lot of areas to improve on before we look at adding lots of memory straining complex artificial bids into our system.
-
Again playing a fairly basic 2/1 system which treatment of a 2NT bid over a 1 of a major opener would you recommend and why? Choices are Shows a raise to 3+ with 4 card support and 10+ points (just as after 1M (X) 2NT) Shows a good opening hand with 4 card support and GF

At the moment I play 15-17 NT with simple checkback stayman. When we have auctions such as 1H - 1S 1NT - 2D Should this be taken as forcing or is there milage in using it for week hands with at least 5-5 distribution in the suits bid?

[hv=s=sxhjtxxxxdxxcakxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Last week my P held this hand and jumped to 2♥ after 1♣ was opened on his right, by dealer. Although I made a very bad judgment call later on in the bidding (costing 1100) I was surprised to see the hand my partner made a week bid on. Should does a week jump show an offensive hand or just length in one suit? With the 2♥ bid showing a week hand (5-9 pts) with 6+ hearts would you make such a bid with this hand a) facing a passed hand :) facing a hand yet to bid? If you do not bid 2♥ would you bid 1♥ or pass? I can see that P might expect another Q in a regular 1♥ bid, but you do have 1 ♥ than promissed.

standar 4º suit is game forcing?
DWM replied to dosxtres's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Why not 2♦ for suit preference rather than 1NT? I know it is unlikley that it is the best contract, but at least it is at a low level. I thought that heading for NT when there is a misfit is a bad idea. -
Last night my partner held a nice 17 count 2-3-6-2 Bidding went 1D - 1H.... When we looked at the options for further bids we found a little hole 2D/2H these both show a lot weaker hand 3D - this hides a possible 5-3 heart fit 3H - This could get us in trouble with a 4-3 fit, also how do we distinguish between strong hands with 3 or 4 card support Any suggestions on dealing with these sort of hands? I can see one option is to open it 1NT but looking for other possibilities as well. We are currently playing a 2/1 system strongly based on the ML CD

[hv=d=n&v=n&n=sajtxhjtxxxdxxcxx&s=sxxhaqxxxdaqcqtxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Bidding went P - P - 1H - 2C 4H all out First two tricks ♣A x x x ♣x x K x Then east plays the 8♦ What line do you choose? I saw 3 good lines Finesse the diamond, Heart ace and another Win diamond with the A cross to dummy, Finesse the Heart Win the diamond play for the heart drop. I played a less faverouable 4th line that was a mix of the bad points of the other 3 but thats by the by. On a side note if you have this hand in a match that you are behind in would you choose a lower percentage line, if so how far behind and when in the game would your tactics change.

[hv=d=s&v=n&s=saq9xhak98dxcaktx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] For the first question we join the bidding in the second round, so far we have 1C - (P) - 1S - (2H) 4D - (P) - 5D playing a basic 5cm system (if it makes any difference) what does the 5D bid mean after the 4D splinter. If there is no standard meaning, what suggestions do you have. Without knowing what it meant, except its got to be a goodie the bidding continues 5H - 5NT What sort of hand could North have for this bidding now? My only thought, assuming the bidding has not gone totally off the rails was something along the lines of Kxxx x Ax QJxxxx So I went for 7♠. It made but was not too confident about my assumptions for the 5D and 5NT bids so thought I best check.

how you deal with those type of hands
DWM replied to jocdelevat's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
I have just started to use Rosenkranz (partially because I have learnt how to spell it) With that in mind I would double here, top of the range for the double. -
When I saw this bidding my first thought was why jump to 6♣ if you are unsure of the best final contract. Is there any mileage in taking a slower route to find out more information? Then I looked at the bidding again. Not sure if this is good bidding or not but I would have been tempted to bid 3♥ rather than 3NT. I know that there is a slight risk of missing out on 3NT, however, I would expect P to bid 3♠ with a min for his bidding with no extra shape. If he bid anything else I would get a bit excited then. More questions than answers.
