with "THE LAW" in mind I think 3♠ is a clear bid. They have 9/10 hearts and we have 8 spades. Also Partner should have a opening hand or just below so we should have the balanace of points, or at worst 20/20. Over 4♥ I think double rather than 4♠, trusting opositions first bids suggests to me that game would be low percentage, also if we have game they are more than likley to be at least 2 down.

How to bid this correctly?
DWM replied to DWM's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
West passed the 1C bid and only came in on the second round. -
[hv=d=s&n=s43h94daj976cq965&s=sq6hak63dkq832ca4]133|200|[/hv] How do you bit this hand playing a strong club with 1D reply = 0-7 points. If the bid is available West will bid 1/2S in the second round.

if 5♥ do you bid on as north with AQxx Jxx KTx QTx

[hv=v=n&s=skxhkqt9xxxxdaxxc]133|100|[/hv] Bidding so far 1♥ (P) 1♠ (5♣) what next?

the 4NT bid was too much, bid 5♦ a 5 loser hand is worth a slam try but not two. The 7♦ bid is very agressive, once partner has taken control I dont think you should take the control back unless you have a lot of unmentioned values. 6♦ is by far the best bid after 6♣. 1♥ - 2♦ 2♥- 3♣ 3♥ - 3♠ 3NT - Pass I think that the final pass is very hard, but knowing opener has 6 hearts, and up to 4 spades its possible to not have a 8 card fit.
-
To try and answer the whats going on I would say that responder has a strong minors. 4♣ I took as a control show. The 11 points hold are probably the perfect 11 points for responder so I would cooperate showing my lowest conrtol. I would expect 3-4 losers in the majors and I know I can cover 3 of them, however, I would also hope that P would make another slam try bid after 4♥ from me if he had two solid minor suits. I still think not bidding 3♥ made openers further bidding problamatic.
-
Why 4S on the second hand? I thought 2♥ bid is a catch all bid as reverses still show strength so could easily show a 5 card suit.
-
I would have bid 1♠ on the first round of bidding. Should this come back to me at the 2 level I could try Hearts after that. Not sure if I am correct or not but I thought it would be more important to get across a 5-4 major hand rather than a 3 suiter.
-
1. Pass, I would have passed the first double. 2. 4♥, I would have bid 3♥ in the round before to confirm the 6th ♥. 3. What does 2NT show? is Drury a tool in play here? If 3♣ shows 5-5 then I would bid that.
-
Not sure if it is just me but with ....... KJx ATxx Q9xx ...... xx If they have 11 tricks off the top outside diamonds it does not matter who opens the suit up as they only need 1 trick. A low diamond would put them to the guess but its still as makeable.

I read about leading aces against slams in a book. So it must be correct. Saying that I cant remember if they said it was a good thing or not.

I like going by when in doubt lead the ace against a slam.

It was changed because South claimed that he would not have bid if he knew east could have been that 'strong' I have not got a clue about why the bid was 3♠ and not 3♥. Probably a similar reason to why you would want to compete at the 3 level with a 4-3-3-4 9 point hand oposite a weak NT. Thinking about it more it stinks of south asking a question to try and get a double chance through misinformation as he knew the E-W point count to 2 points and the distribution of points between the two hands is of little importance. It is reasonable to assume that regardless of the strength of easts hand it must have at least 6 diamonds to suggest a new suit at the 3 level. Did not realise the different place to post this, sorry

Bidding goes from north in UK 1NT - 3D - X - P 3S - passed out before doubling south asked if the 3D was preemptive or normal (there was no alert of the bid). South is a beginner and said not sure. It was written on thier card that they played ASPTRO as a defence to 1NT. At the end of the bidding South requested to reserve his rights. The double was not alerted. After the play (3♠-1) the TD was called. The hands were as shown. At the table the TD changed the score to (3♦-2). I am fairly certain this is wrong, but woudl like to know what if anything should have been done by the TD. I would have given NS a word about tryign to have a double shot at this hand and let the score stand. [hv=n=skqt7haq63dq53c73&w=s832hk852d9ckj985&e=sj4ht9dat8762caq2&s=sa965hj74dkj4ct64]399|300|[/hv]

At the moment I play a fairly basic 2/1 system. I like the idea of getting into the bidding as much as possible so we are playing a mini no trump (10-12). I am thinking about using the 2C bid as a weak bid, either just in clubs or showing both majors. So have a two and a half part question. 1a) What is a good way of playing the minors if 1C can show a strong hand. Preferably one that is easy to remember and fairly natural. Including how to deal with interference. 1b) Is it worth thinkng about a 2C bid as either weak with both majors or a variety of strong hands? 2) if 2C is free for a weak bid what type of hand would you recommend it shows. At the moment I am torn between weak with clubs and weak with both majors.

I like X as pen, teach them for messing about with our hand. Pass is 100% forcing with nothing more to say at the moment As finding out if we have a NT game is very high in the list of things to do I think 3♥ should be asking for a half stop as if I am balanced without any control in hearts I would pass and let P make the next move. 3♣/♦ should show 5/4 hands, again with 3 card ♣ support I think its more important to search for the 3NT first. 2♠ shows 6+ spades. Not too sure what 3♠ should show guess some sort of long near solid spade suit with outside Aces 4♣ RCKB in clubs 2NT is natural, but not too sure what 3NT should show. Playing safe I think its just to play but then you are already forcing to game so 2NT says I want to play in NT's so without any special agreement 2NT must show some extras.

Playing Promisory Stayman and 1NT-2NT as an invite without a 4cM what should the following bids show 1NT - 2♣ 2♥ - 2♠ 1NT - 2♣ 2♥ - 2NT

Rusty bidding at its best/worst
DWM replied to DWM's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
The rusty bit from this hand was making 3♦ to ensure we are in a GF situation. Thinking about it 3♠ is a lot better. I thought that 7NT was the answer as P has a ♥/♣ hand with 10/11 winners in those two suits so my hand is just as valuable in NT as it is in ♣. P must have at least something in ♠/♦ to get into my hand otherwise he would have taken a different route to get to slam. If I leave it in clubs there is a chance of a ruff to start plus with IMP's those extra few points could make a difference. -
[hv=d=n&v=b&s=sajt97532hdaktc74]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] After taking two and a half years out of playing bridge to help my wife with our young family this is one of the first hands I pick up in my first tournamnet back. Bidding all with us this is the sout hand 1♥ - 1♠ 3♣ - 3♦ 4NT - 5♥ (two without Q♣) 7♣ What to do next?
-
What is standard in this situation 1NT - (P) - 2♦ - (2♠) ?? Do Pass, Double, 3H, 2NT have meanings? if so what? Also after 1NT - (P) - 2♦ - (X) XX, pass, 2H, 2NT? Cheers
