  1. 1.c 2.c 3.b 4.b 5.b (if I am awake and not thinking how I let such a joker of a P play a contract) 6.no (never have) 7.b (for some reason don't like taking advantage of a mechanical error) 8.b ish (would explain options to ops and ask if they are ok to continue without TD) 9.b (if they ask if they can agree what they are playing I will let them, unless im in a mood) 10. yep, happened to me a few times. For the first few if my P made revoke/out of turn type mistakes often I might make a point of it at a club night, but never a league/cup match
  2. Cannot see the point of a double in teams I am sure the imp gain loss is somewhere else. why risk a -ve on a board when you have a good chance of a nice +ve (unless you are needing to look for the swings)
  3. Top winners 2 spades, 1 diamond and 1 club. You have 2 more tricks in hearts. So need 3 more. There are 2 guaranteed entries into Dummy, likewise in hand. West has probably got 5 points in Hearts, East has shown at least 10 points so that does not leave that many spare to find. Are E-W playing standard count? If so I take it hearts are 5-3 so I can duck the first heart, and clear West out of hearts should they be continued. I will then play a small club to East KJ of clubs and get an extra trick from his return (obviously will cover should west have the club jack). Then playing the ace and then the third small club should set up my final club trick If east plays on clubs himself I think I have to hope for a good split on clubs, failing that the spade hook.
  4. Does it really matter what happened on one hand. Adjusting how you bid because of one bad break will only work in two situations. 1 You needed the adjustment anyway as there was a big whole in your system/style. 2 You get the same bad break again. Not bidding 2♠ on the off chance that there is a 6-6-1-0 split in them is bad bridge. For the aggressive bidding I suggest that you look at some of the experts bidding and see how they value hands, when I did I was surprised. I know that my declarer play is no where near their quality, however, I also know that my opponents defence is not international quality either.
  5. If I remember correctly just after being taught the 4-3-2-1 point system I was told length before strength. I would probably end up in 3S on #2 on #1 I would only respond if I had a way of biding a pre-emptive raise in spades.
  6. As we have been deveoping our system there are fewer and fewer times where we need 2NT to be natural in competion. I was looking at having a nice, simple, rule to go by along the lines of '2NT is never natural, and always forcing, if oponents open a suit.' The only times I think that this might be useful to break is on simple auctions such as: (1S) - 2C - (P) - 2NT Most of the times we are changing 2NT to Lebensohl and I can really see the advantage of having the opertunity to show 2 types of hand at the 3 level. Do you think we would be giving up too much losing the natural 2NT in some situations such as that above or would it be better to have the rule as per the second paragraph? If it changes things we are playing a 2/1 system.
  7. I would follow with the King (assuming I played ace first) then follow with the lowest heart to show where my entry is (unless South has 4 hearts then I play the Ten)
  8. [hv=d=w&v=n&s=skxhxxxxdkq9xcqxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Bidding Starting with West (2♣*) - P - (2♦) - P (P) - X - (3♦) - ?? 2♣ was 21+ any shape or weak ♦'s Do you enter the auction here? if so with what bid.
  9. Utalising Lebenshol (slow denies) after 1NT interference what do the following seqences show? 1NT - (1H) - 2NT - (P) 3C - (P) - 4S 1NT - (1H) - 3S 1NT - (1H) - 4S We play the second sequance is GF just not sure what the difference between the 3 ways of getting to game should show.
  10. [hv=d=s&v=e&s=saq9xxhaktxxdjxcx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] So far bidding has gone 1♥ - (P) - 1♠ - (2♣) 4♣ - (X) - 4♦ - (P) 4♥ - (P) - 4♠ - (P) Firstly do you agree with the NS bidding so far? Secondly, assume you were forced to bid like above so far, would you bid on beyond 4♠? If so blackwood, 5♥ or something else? Hand shown is opener
  11. What does N's XX mean after they could not find it in the first round? Although I would be tempted to double, I would play safe in teams.
  12. From the above I was thinking about something along the lines of 2♣ Stayman (non prom.) 2♦ week Hearts or 5 spades & 4 hearts majors inv + 2♥ week spades or exactly 5 hearts inv + 2♠ exactly 5 spades inv + (less than 4 hearts) 2NT week minor 3 level bids 6+ in suit GF I know that there are lots of space left and it needs to be expanded. But would like to check if I am covering all the basic bases with the above. Not too sure the best way of including exploring minor games/slams. Any suggestions?
  13. We have been having good fun and some nice results using a 10-12 point range NT with a 2/1 system. One thing I have noticed is the traditional continuations after a NT opening a lot of the bidding is orientated towards making the opener declarer. With a mini NT this means that game contracts will be played by the hand with less controls more often than not. Firstly is it work tinkering with the basic Stayman/Transfers to get stronger hand to play game contracts? If so, secondly, can you suggest a different continuation to NT opening?
  14. One thing that has confused me one this one. If I am reading it correctly the two card spade suit is a good thing. I thought that this would be bad as it increases the chance that we have 2 losers in spades I thought 1 or 4 cards in spades would be a good thing and 2 or 3 bad.
  15. in the system the next step (except an agreed suit) after a reply to RCKB is king ask. Might not be the best, but it is what is played and N did reply correctly to it.
  16. [hv=d=s&v=e&s=sah872da9cqj98642]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Bidding 1♣ - (X) - XX - (2♠) ??? Do you bid here? If so why, if pass why?
  17. [hv=d=e&v=b&s=sj4hq7642dq983c83]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Bidding (P) - P - (1♠) - X (P) - 2♥ - (2♠) - 3♥ (P) - ??? Do you bid on here?
  18. [hv=d=w&v=n&n=sak82ha643dcat972&s=sqjt4hq82d542c865]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] At our table bidding went (P) - 1♣ - (2♦) - (P) (3♦) passed out 2♦ was opening hand we lost 12 imps on this one. Should we be bidding differently, if so how?
  19. [hv=d=w&v=b&n=sq62hkqj7643dc862&s=sakt93htda762caq4]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] (P) - 1♥ - (2♣) - X (P) - 3♥ - (P) - 4NT (P) - 5♣ - (P) - 5♦ (P) - 5♥ - (P) - 6NT 5♣ = 1 or 4 key cards 5♥ = 0 outside kings. Result 6NT = on club lead :P Comments please.
  20. Not sure if it's suitable here, but 2♥ passed my mind as long as you play FS(1R)F not FS(G)F
  21. [hv=d=e&v=n&n=st64hk8542dcqjt92&w=skq82ha3dqjt932c5&e=saj95ht96dk6ck763&s=s73hqj7da8754ca84]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Bidding, East - West in brackets (P) - 1NT - (2D) - 2H* (P)- 2S - (3D) all pass After East made his second pass the 2H bid was alerted. East asked, and was told transfer to spades, and east chose to keep his pass. At the end North informed E-W that the 2H was infact a natural competitive bid. The Director was called and the bidding explained. EW claimed that they would have found game in spades if the correct information was provided. NS claimed that as East could not find a bid after 3D they would not have found game without the miss information. NS system is 1NT 10-12, after interference Lebenshol slow denies, so 2H was in no way invertaional. 2S is bonkers and has no place in thier system. EW play double with 15+ points, suits natural 10-14/15 after 1NT by ops. What would your adjusted score be and why?
  22. 6 top tricks (4 clubs, 1 diamond and 1 spade), plus the one on the lead makes 7 so I need 2 more. I have 1 more possible trick in diamonds (2 if I can force west to lead a diamond) 1 trick in hearts and 1 in spades. I only have 1 guaranteed entry to dummy. My poor suit is hearts as I only have one guaranteed stopper before they can set up their tricks, however, for E-W to set up hearts I must get one trick from it. Therefore I need a way of making sure I have two tricks in spades. Playing Ace then Queen of spades would open up the suit as if both are ducked I lose the heart ace then the king of spades knocks out my last spade and the suit is wide open. So I play the spade queen first, if it wins I play the heart queen, if it loses I have the stops in all suits.
  23. We were playing in MP's but we usually play in IMP's so interested in both situations. With the 3H or 4D bids you will get 3S or 4H back. If you bid 4D and get 4H back we could still be A♠ and AK♣ off, so going beyond 4NT could be missing the last making spot. Am I being too pesamistic here? I guess the 7 level is forgotten about as it woudl need a very exact hand including A AJxx A
  24. [hv=s=skxhkqxdaktxxxcxx]133|100|[/hv] P opens 1♦ - 2♦ (inverted) 2NT 2NT shows 13/14 points and stops in all outside suits What is the best way to explore how high we should be in NT? If cue bidding we play it can be an Ace or King
  25. I play after 2♣ - 2♦ SUIT the next suit up is a double negative. That being cannot promise 2 tricks if the suit bid was trumps. I would take the void as 1 trick, but there are no other tricks in your hand that do not require a lot of development. Not quite as discriptive as Phil, but I would assume that P would want to bid a 4 card major anyway if he had one. Saying that I have just re-read your post and saw you asked how to bid if no double negative in your system. I would bid spades as P could have 4 spades and 6 clubs for his bidding so far. I know this support with support, but I am sure there is something about dont hide a 6 card major as well. I can see it being a problem when you have a slightly stronger hand and P has clubs and hearts as the auction could go along the lines of 2♣ - 2♦ 3♣ - 3♠ 4♥ Then it is hard to know when to explore slam and when to settle in 5♣
