  1. Is there any template available to write or prepare system Notes? I am looking for excel format. Bid and meaning in ladder format.
  2. Suggestion to add a prealert option Box. Prealert messages can be written in the box. Example of messages: Introduction to welcome Greetings System played Leads Card options discarding methods Defensive signaling method Unusual conventions or methods Just click on the prealert box and the message will appear. and it will also show every time when the round changes. It will save a lot of time when Pre-typed messages available and it will keep the game smoother, faster and going. Thanks.
  3. Is alert color possible? What color is being used? When the bridge game started there were no alert procedures and rules. These are introduced to help the opponents who can stay alert. This is the bad rule invented. Another argument at the table, People start advising when I should alert and when I should not. If explanation is given, I still don't see the reason for secondary alert.
  4. I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree. I don't want a pop-up telling me what my partner's bid means. IMHO, much of the fun of the game is in trying to work things like this out. Is that 4♣ Gerber or natural? Are transfers on in a particular competitive auction? Was that bid forcing? Are we playing Drury? Is it the best way to win just because opponents cannot remember the convention? Many experienced players will not enjoy winning this way. Also, opponents can mess up the convention due to lack of memory and disturb the auction. There is no penalty. Other parts of the game like declarer play, defense are suffering. No practice for that.
  5. What are the kind words to use to prevent argument at the table with the partner? What are the kind words to use when opponents uses facial expression or card snapping at the table?
  6. Mishaps happens even when you are using FD. You will have to start using FD to see the consequences. Disasters strike whether you use or not. Some bids cannot be explained for some layout of the cards. Even in FD, you will have two or more choices to select the bid and you may choose the wrong one. FD eliminates the silly bidding errors and make the game more competitive.
  7. I do not agree with this use of the FD convention card. Paul How will you eliminate the bidding error caused by the opponents? When asked opponents say don't remember what system they are playing? opposite to 1NT ; brozel or cappelleti or Don't and or any other system. Sometime they don't remember 1430 or 0314 when ace asking is invoved in the bidding. I think the FD eliminates silly memory error. There is convention disruption. The FD helps that.
  8. One disadvantage is that, at least at the current state of the art, you can't develop agreements with your partner. You have to choose among a variety of canned agreements with no opportunity to make refinements. There are many cases, because of the opponents mishaps, they got good scores too. There are cases, because of the uses of full disclosure convention card, the meaning was different, they got into bad contract also. I have seen that. Overall, it is better to use Full disclosure convention card to eliminate silly bidding errors. example, when opponents opens 1NT, what convention you are using? Memory test is not good bridge here. waste of time, frustration. Full disclosure convention card is different format with better explanation of partnership understanding. This will make refinement better for future systems.
  9. In addition, ALERTS will be gone. Explanation of the bid will be on the screen and can be verified back, whenever required. No complain about "This Bid Not alerted" to TD. This will be the big improvement.
  10. Hand from 8th European champions Cup 4♥, 4♠ , 5NT were alerted in the vugraph. Handviewer Link did not pick up. Can someone explain this bidding sequence?
  11. This is the way, I consider the bidding. 4♠ = Singleton or void or A♠ and trick potential suit in ♥ and support to one minor suit. 5♠ = If you have singleton then, I have A♠ or void, Promises A♥, and one more Ace in minor. committed to slam. 6♣ = ♣ support, slam pick To Play. since minor suit was not supported earlier, setting the trump.
  12. I opened a teaching table. I took all 4 seats. I tried to load convention card full disclosure type or any other kind. I wanted to see the effect how it will be shown. I am unable to load. Grayed out NS CC and EW CC.
  13. What is the convention disruption? Is there a penalty for bidding that way? Uncontested auction. 1NT - 4♥ [Transfer to 4♠] 4♠ - 5♥ Pass all. Is there a penalty for this?
  14. Announce the running score every 20 minutes for each team and the current standing. The number of boards played will not have to be announced. Team strategy will be different. Barometer scoring is fun. Hiding the scores from the players is a handicap. Tactical and situational bidding strategy will develop based on the current running scores. This is good.
  15. General convention chart Link One pair was playing West coast style overcall system 1NT overcall is 3 suited takeout promises 3 cards in unbid suit. This is mentioned in the General convention chart. competitive section 3.b Dbl is power double. Range was 1NT overcall is 7-15HCP (3 suited Takeout). Power dbl is 16+ range This method was questioned by their opponents. TD disallowed the NT overcall range. TD mentioned the 1NT overcall range cannot be this wide. TD also mentioned that this should be within 5 pt range. Is the TD statement correct? Second Question? Is there a similar requirement in the sandwitch seat. 1minor pass 1 major 1NT pass What should be 1NT range here when playing for unbid suit take out. Is there a similar range requirement? ====================================================== From website of westcoast style overcall system: 3. The One No-trump Overcall for Takeout (NTO) The centerpiece of the system. The NTO comes up frequently and creates problems for the opponents, while letting us know the suits in which we can compete. The NTO can be described as a light three-suited takeout, showing 3+ cards in each of the unbid suits and generally 6 -15 HCP. The bid implies a doubleton or less in the opener's suit, i.e., it should not be used with 4-3-3-3 hands. The bid is alertable. 3.1 Point count requirements The sources differ in their description of the point count requirements. Spaulding gives the range as 4 to a bad 14, or up to a bad 15 opposite a passed partner. Fout says 6-15 at equal vulnerability. At the table Twineham and Hodges, at unfavorable vulnerability, said their range was 8-14.
  16. ACBL rule says, 1NT range needs to be announced. Like 11-14 or 15-17 HCP. Is there anywhere written, how the point count is to be calculated? AKQJT= 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 method. AKQJT= 6, 4, 2, 1, 0 Zar method. AKQJT= 4.5, 3, 1.5, 0.75, 0.25 method.
  17. Someone made this convention card ACBL convention card editor I find a lot of wasted space in ACBL convention card and could be utilized where I can add useful disclosure statements. I like Ken's idea of several cards based on the system related cards, where I can write more of my partnership understandings. Alerting the bids can be avoided.
  18. It looks like there is some overall modification necessary to use effectively with current advancement in the bidding system. Everyone uses the name of the convention anyway. If further explanation is necessary, Just ask? Suggestion to ACBL convention card modification: On the second page, remove the 20pt VP scale, 30 pt scale, International matchpoint scale. Use this space to list the use of allowed conventions. REGULARLY NEEDED CONVENTIONS-- This space can also be used for system Notes, if left blank. This will allow the players to learn the conventions and systems. This will also explain what is allowed and what is not allowed conventions. ACBL website should list/explain the convention agreements, approval for each of the allowed convention per CHART. Any Deviation from convention agreements can be tracked, if necessary. Quicker partnership agreements can be reached. Examples of the conventions List. 19. East can have T♦ instead of 4♦, and when on finesse, can lose to T♦. To me, T♦ is not located yet, declarer has to state the finesse and the line of play. Your line is good for my education in finding T♦ based on probability. Thanks.
  20. Hand from ACBL tournament: TD ruled 5S making After playing trick 9, Declarer claimed that 3!D and 2!S and contract making. I did not accept the claim and called TD. TD ruled the contract making based on GIB analysis. Declarer did not mention of finesse in ♦ and winning the rest of the tricks. GIB analysis shows contract making on finesse. Is the TD ruling correct? Is it ok to use GIB to decide the number of tricks?
  21. BBO FD CC unless you are putting the onus on the opps to check each bid. This is the best method when u want to know what is the meaning of the bid. It looks like players cannot function without alert. Waste of time in typing repeated alert messages. No one knows how the alert system started. What is the intent behind this? The alert is needed to notify your opponents that your bid carries special meaning. This is not true. By rule, cuebid does not require alert which carries special meaning.
  22. 1♦-1M - 2NT: Exactly three card Major, long and strong diamonds, at least game invitational values. Opener has a hand that is worth 3♦, but with major support. This bid can also be made with 3=4=6=0 shape for responder 1♠ bid. 1D-1H, 2NT- 3C: Something in clubs; the initial meaning is a stopper, looking for 3NT, but if responder then goes back to 4H he shows a slam try, too strong to just sign off in 4H. Continuations natural. 1D-1H, 2NT- 3D: Prefers diamonds to hearts for the partial, rejects game. 1D-1H, 2NT- 3H: A fifth heart (usually), but not enough to bid game. Opener is expected to pass. If you are tempted to keep bidding, remember that responder can have a less count. 1D-1H, 2NT- 3S: Something in spades; slam try if responder goes back to 4H over 3NT. 1D-1H, 2NT- 3NT: To play. Responder can have KQxx/QJxx/x/KT9x. 1D-1H, 2NT- 4C: Self-splinter for hearts. Responder has 5+ hearts and is slamming. 1D-1H, 2NT- 4D: Prefers diamonds, forcing. Probably only four hearts. 1D-1H, 2NT- 4H: Signoff. Not interested in slam. 1D-1H, 2NT- 4S: RKC for hearts. 1D-1H, 2NT- 4NT: Does not exist. Could be a self-splinter for hearts, showing spade shortness, but probably better to make a lower forcing bid with that hand. Also, if you are short in spades, the opponents would probably have bid something by now. ============================================== 1♦-1M - 2♦: Standard, almost always a six-card suit. But would raise to 2♥ with three-card support more freely than some, so 2D rebid tends to deny support. It always denies four spades, of course. Bid 2♦ instead of the raise only with a minimum (less likely to miss a game). Also, with 6-4 in the minors, you should rebid 2♦ instead of 2♣ if you are minimum. Rebidding 2♣ with that shape should be done only if you are going to accept an invitation. ======================================================== 1♦-1M - 3♣: Natural, at least 6-5 minors, maximum opening that does not qualify for a 1♣ opening. Not forcing.
  23. Appeal Case #7 at DC Is it a good ruling? East bid voluntarily 4♣ and after losing the board, now appeals for Break-in Tempo ruling. Is it not 2 way? Is there any timing rule for bids? 3 sec, 4 secs, 5 secs, who maintains it? How much time is allowed by the rule? Is there no merit for North bids 3♠ when no defense to 3♣ is available in match point game. Appeal case #7 at DC. Disputed break in tempo (BIT). Final contract: 4♣ by East. Opening lead: ♥A Table result: Down 1, E-W minus 100. Director ruling: 3♣ by East making three, EW plus 110. Committee ruling: 3♣ by East making three, E-W plus 110. The Facts: The director was called after the TOURNAMENT APPEALS 3♣ bid and again after the play was concluded. North vehemently disputed that there was a BIT. South said his partner plays fast and did think, but it was not a demonstrable BIT. East felt there was a demonstrable BIT. West was not consulted as the director judged that South had conceded the point. The Ruling: The director judged that there was an unmistakable hesitation, in part because South's hand indicated that he had something to think about. He further judged that the BIT demonstrably suggested 3♠ and that pass was clearly a logical alternative. Per Law 12C1(e) the result for both pairs was adjusted to 3♣ by East making three, E-W plus 110. The Appeal: N-S appealed the director's decision. West did not attend the hearing. In screening, South said the BIT was up to five seconds; East said four to five seconds and North said no more than three seconds. Both North and South felt that North's decision to bid was justified with or without the hesitation. North felt the time elapsed was not a BIT, but a normal pause. South acknowledged he took a few seconds (perhaps three or four) before passing. East claimed that North's action was dubious even without a hesitation. Holding only three trumps and secondary values makes bidding unreasonable after a BIT. The Decision: The committee felt that despite the fact North kept stressing the point that three seconds does not constitute a BIT, the exact number of seconds is not relevant. The committee felt North's hand did not justify any further action and his bid was demonstrably suggested by partner's hesitation. The committee upheld the director's decision of 3♣ by East making three, E-W plus 110 for both sides. The appeal was judged to have substantial merit.
  24. I simulated a bidding sequence as above, 4NT shows as " rebiddable D, 14+ total points. Simulated bidding sequence for 4NT meaning
