Hand re-evaluation after partner's forcing pass
adhoc3 replied to temp3600's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
Hi, all What does Pard has to make a forcing pass? He has no enough control in H/D/C, should have bid double to suggest defence. I guess pard is telling me that he has only 1 losser (at most) in Spade, and Kings in minors. The pass slightly suggest slam (in considering he has few Aces). I dont think pard will bid forcing pass with: xx AKJxx Kxx Kxx. I believe we can stand at level 5. I will bid 5C -- hope this is pard's 2nd suit, if pard bid 5D, I will still back to 5H. He will know I'm trying test slam with limited strength. With void Spade, or 55 shape, he will jump to 6. Worth to try. Regards, Jack -
Prefer keep quiet.

Where's HCPs and spades? The open should be some NT if the opener has strong 5332. If nobody miscount or misclick....I bid 1S. Not easy at all. <_<

Responding to negative double
adhoc3 replied to plaur's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Pass is my bid, I wonder why it is not an option in Mikeh's list. Quite different form the hand that i posted a few days ago (Axx KQJTx Kx xxx, 1H-3S-x), we have sure +200 (the negative double promises 1 trick) and could make 1100 -- if there's a slam. Regards, Jack PS: I assume pard made a decent double, i.e., 9+ hcps and not monster 2 suiter: x x Qxxxx KQxxxx. -
2H, there're 25 minor cards outside, this won't be passout. I'll bid 3S later. To the worst, the bidding goes to 5D when back to me again, I'll bid 5H (insane maybe:P). Heart suit almost stands alone, I'll compet with this. I prefer H much more than S, and dont want pd choose S when he has: Kx x xxxxx xxxxx, or Jxx xx xxxx xxxx. Need very few to make a slam but it seems no way to get to know.

Anyone will bid 3NT after 3S? ;)
-
I would not pass unless pd bid 5D ;)

not arguing here, trying to understand... why should a 6223 7 count be forcing? or do you think that's a wjs hand? 7 hcp is minimum, responder could have 10. It's the opener who cant afford a pass. As for me, the responder could have 15 hcp. As Winstonn pointed, 2NT is for poor hand. ' Regards, yes, but if that's the case why rebid 2s? as i said, i believe there are many ways to force but only one way to sign off... anyway, thx this is a too hard question for me, LUKE :) . There's no way stop once choosed 2S, at least for me.....could you please show us all the actual hand?

'no specific' agreement ... what would you take 1D---2S? Weak jump shift? If yes, 1D-1S-2H-2S should be absolutely forcing.
-
I vote for forcing NT. 1) too weak to bid both suits, D suit is much more valuable than S. If there's a game, probably need fitting in both S/D 2) If opps inter, I can still bid 3D without exaggerating. Regards Jack

QJx AJT9xx xx Qx Vul vs Non PD opened 1D in 2nd place: pass-----1D----pass-----1H dbl-------2D----2S-------??? Pard's hand hide below: Anything wrong with this sequence? Regards, Jack

"Forget about slam when opps open bid firstly." some said. I think it's almostly a truth, at least for grand slam. But this is overruled with this board, when I was watching a star table: [hv=w=skjxxhkqxdaxcjxxx&e=saqxxhatxxxxdxcax]266|100|[/hv] South opened 1♦, the rest bidding was clear, simple and assertive: dbl---2♦ 3♠---4NT 5♥---5NT*precise King 6♥--7♠ dbl has shown at least 3 good hearts or 4. 7S was pretty sure. Cool B) .

There're a lots of contracts that DF can make but never a human being. ;)

I think when DBL on 3S is penalty, PASS should be take-out. Vice versa.
-
If start with 2C: 1H---2C 2D---2S* Recalled the thread we've discussed, which is about FSF after 2/1, it's the time that nobody want FSF still valid after 2/1 :) . Much more comfortable sequence. But still faraway from game. A nice part score is good enough I think. http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=11015&st=0

This hand is grabbed from other forum. [hv=w=sxhaxxxxdkqxxcaxx&e=sajxxxhxdxckqxxxx]266|100|1♥---1♠ 2♦---?? Now East has a problem with continuing.[/hv] The host said he thought 3C would be game forcing so had to bid 2♠( ). Then his pd passed( :D ). Someone suggested it is better that West rebid 1NT, as pre-discussed the shape that the opener could have, to solve this kind of problem. I think 3C is ok for the shape dominating. But of course 3NT/5C would be an illusion without west's 2 Aces. Is there scientific solution?

Getting out of the posted hand, my questions was: is a negative double alway negative and not passable? Thanks for all comments. A negative is passable -- but better bid something because it's agreed the double is not penalty oriental. For too many times, I've seen people arguing badly for the pass, especially when the passed one has not certain resources of tricks (of couse the doubled contract made at that time lol). Do you agree PD should make negative double with the following hands? xx Ax AQxx Qxxxx, pass the double would be the best x xx AQxxx AKxxx, 12 tricks not too hard Kxx Ax AQxx AKxx, 3SX-4, 800 is too cheap x xx Axxxx Axxxx, will you pass after 3S? For my hand Axx KQJTx Kxx xx, there's no proper bid after my pd's double (super light one, we agreed >10p on 3 level) on 3S. So pass is of standard PTB sysem (Pass-when-nothing-To-Bid system:P ). However, assume LHO preempted 2S and PD doubled, I still cant make a sound bid. OK, 2NT, implying no preference in minor and stop in spade, how wbout xxx KQJTx Kxx Ax? showing no stop and interests in minor? Have to bid 3H I think. Bidding weak NT, I can get out of these trouble by opening 1NT. But how could SAYC and 2/1 players make it? What's the ideal agreement between partners? Did you ever crazy of partner's pass on your negative double? BTW, I somewhat feel guilty on 1H opening, although there could be another story to tell all of you:) Thanks Robert's backup on my decision;).

Some players stated: "Double is always negative." Well, maybe up to 7H for them. For most players, the negative double is up to 3S or 4H. Axx KQJTx Kxx xx Playing precision system, weak NT 12-15 including 5332, 5 major. Negative double to 4H. I opened 1H, good suit which I want PD lead. LHO preempted 3S, and PD doubled. The first reflection in my mind was pass, but there's discipline. 4C/D would be out of imagination, 3NT was quite suspectable, I choosed 4H, -3, sadly. Here is the PD's hand: JT xx Txxx AKxxx What's your choice? How far would you agree with PD's double? I wished I had opened 1NT. After 3S, PD could not make negative double, which promised hearts. He probably had to pass. But it was still far from 4 minor contract even I had a minor suit indeed. According to the traveller, 3S-2 would be a par, nobody doubled. Some made 3S and a top, but should be a gift. North hand was pretty standard: 23589QK 78 8J 2J. South was very kind that did not put his red card on 4H. Any comments? Thanks.

Playing in lobby yesterday with a pickup partner, expert level. His card is fine except for 'gldwy'.... what is it? He told me no jacoby 2NT but use 3C. 3D for weaker hand, ok that's reverse bergen alike. Then came this board: Partner opened 1H, I had: A Jxxxx AJ KJxxx. 'gldwy'?, no it's not of the kind, splinter would be more appropriate. 1♥----3♠ 4♣----4♦---(dbl) 6♠!?--??? I waited a minute for the 'undo'.....but nothing happened. I had no choice but bid the grand:7♥. [hv=d=w&v=b&w=st987hakt987dxxca&e=sahjxxxxdajckjxxx]266|100|[/hv] After the dummy was showed, my partner said: "sry, I dont understant." "np, just make it." (He did.) “goldway!" "sryp, I thought splinter is universal." (It's not included in his card really.) It's a pleasure playing with you p:) BTW, it's the only grand slam on the score board. Anyone to build reasonable bidding to 7H?

[hv=d=n&v=b&n=skqxxxhaqtxdjtxca&w=sjxxhjxxdakxxxcxx&e=saxxxhkxdqxxcxxxx&s=s9h9876dxxckqjxxx]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The stiff Ace was placed ugly. The leading was D and continued until dummy ruffed. Small ♣ to A, ♠Q taken by A, East exit with ♣, Dummy K, then Q. It's funny west ruffed ♣Q, a hope for making emerged!..... Went -2 finally. Close room made some partscore, I cant remember.
