Two suiters in response to a strong 1nt
adhoc3 replied to matmat's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
For me: 3C/D/H/S, invitational, 6 cards+ with 2 of AKQ. Could anyone kindly advise which one happens more frequently? 55 or 6+ 2 of AKQ? Thanks, -
Don't understand this. 1h=x=2h=x ps--2S?---2NT? What would pd's 2S mean? and 2NT to show minors after 2S?
-
How about dbl and if pd 4♠ then 5♣?

Game Theory Professor said: The best strategy is opponent's strategy --- but make sure you will do it better. So for weaker team, don't try to perform such analysis because your opps are better than you, just do it randomly. For stronger team, better play the game/cards in normal way because you're the better one. -------In either case: no one need the intellegent % calculation. :) May be this is useful for two teams who are the exactly same competitive... ;) Good lucky and have fun! Agree! New suit AFTER Ogust, not simply new suit after to weak 2. I would take as slam interests, Forcing, control/second suit showing, agreed major trump. Regards, Jack
-
I did it onece. I felt it's quite silly when LHO doubled and pard bid my singleton on 3 level. I could be much more comfortable if bid my suit after pard balanced. What I learned is included in previous posts -- a pass is just fine. Regards. Jack

4NT looks a little bit... should have made his pard do that. Could have keep cuebiding or bid his own value.
-
I follow Bergen: when there are 2 cuebid available, cheaper one 2D for limited raise, higher one 2S for forcing raise -- It looks strange when has nothing bid after 1C and feel much stronger after everyone showed some value. So maybe 2S is just for better raise (nice shape) for this particular sequence. It's very hard to keep silence with 65 hand, I'd probably bid 2C right after 1S. If pass that, I would not balance LHO's 1NT --- realized it's completely misfitted hand.
-
If, pard is insane:)
-
I think 3D is straight forward, showing value increase(nice fit found) and short. Cant imagine pard won't copy that after 3D-...-4H. But 4C/D could be confused with other means, such as, both majors fit, super strong hand, etc.
-
Totally agree 4C forcing. If he bid 4♦ showing his side strength, it's all ok, let's settle on 4S. But what would he suppose to bid if he had ♥A but nothing in ♣? Maybe 4♠. You would still have a decision to make.

Both, Imp AJxxx Qx AQT AQJ These 20 hcps were not exciting at all. However, pard opened 2S on the first seat, covered by 3H. It seems that all your need for slam were 2nd control in ♥, maybe a little bit more luck in minor. Assume you start with 4H, LHO passed -- so pard probably did not have singleton H. Pard back to 4S, would you try to step further?

I got reply today from Florin, thanks. I post the reply for anyone who may need. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi. Your PC is missing a standard font - the SYMBOL font (symbole.fon). This font is a part of Windows, but somehow your copy got corrupted or lost. Anyway, I have attached a copy. Here are the steps to install it 1) Save the attached font file somewhere on your PC 2) Click Start/Settings/Control Panel/Fonts 3) Click File/Install New Font A window will pop up. By manipulating the folder list in the lower left, you can navigate to the folder containing the file you saved in step (1). Once you do so, the "List of fonts" will contain a new entry, something like "Symbol 8,10,12, blah blah". Click on this line in the "List of fonts" window, and click OK Repeat the procedure for symbol.ttf if not successful in the first attempt. Kind regards, Florin

One of my friend encountered a strange software problem: He can only see 1234... in bidding box, but cant see any ♣♦♥♠ or NT on his screen. The cards can be shown. I suggested he re-install, but not work. I've sent him my own downloaded setup file, installed, but not work either. What's wrong and what to do? I guess he will survive without BBO ........ half-life. Please take it as an emergency call. A lots thanks for rapid reply, on behalf on my poor friend.

Does anyone there care?

Given the declarer play S22 normally, he got 11 tricks already: 5S+2H+1D+3C. Dont know what had dummy ducked when playing D, if they were S, the declarer got 12th trick by dropping HQ. More down tricks wont worth more as I think most player were on 6S as SQ missing. Too bad that TD gave you and A+, not the actual +100. You were afforded a big gift, and taken away by your TD by mistake. It's really bad enough, anyway, $1 only:)))) Good lucky:)) -

I feel incapable, deeply, to make such bidding. Could experts analysis what's the logic behind bidding 1 and why bidding 2 failed? Thanks and regards, Jack

As for me: 1NT--pass--2C--(2H) 2S= 5 spade X = t/o, ensure 4 spades pass = not of above if 1NT--pass--2C--(2S) 3H = 5 hearts and value, never bid this in my memory X = t/o, ensure 4 hearts and value, very rare. (Why dont let Pard talk?) pass = not of above I wonder direct X for penalty has any usage: whatif pard has an yarborough? BTW: 1NT--(2H)--2S, showing 4 spades. 1NT--(2C/D)--2H/S, showing 5 cards major.
-
Ditto. Since I passed before, and I will have no bid if pard rebid anything after 1H-1S, I will pass now. 2S here will be fit showing jump even without pre-agreement. If the bidding is not ending on 1H, maybe I can try 2S later. Regards, Jack

Bravo, whereeagles! and well done all 5D bidder, you would bid 6D after 5S don't you?)) [hv=n=sxxxhkxxdakqxcxxx&w=skqjxxhaxdxcqjxx&e=saxxxxhxdxxxckxxx&s=shqjtxxxdt98xxcax]399|300|[/hv]

I'm another minority. I think I have a poor hand. Stiff A and SK looks ugly. I will not hope pard bid 3NT after 3D and I don't worry about how to defence 2H. So I'll wait and hear.

[hv=d=n&v=n&s=s987654hdkjt8765c]133|100|1C----pass----1D*---1H pass--2NT*----???[/hv] Partner showed 16+ but seemed has no much more than that. Opps addressed their 2NT as limited raise or better. What would you bid? Do you have device for super weak but good shape hand after precision 1C opening?
-
[hv=d=b&s=sxxxhkxdakqxcxxxx]133|100|1S---3C*---4S---??? [/hv] We use Ghestem, 3C showing 55+ red suits, all range. What would you bid?
-
1S----x----2s-----pass pass--2NT is it a little bit better than x twice?
-
Pass was my choice too. Pard had: Ax -- KTxxxxx Txxx Diamond break 22, so there was a quick 3NT. Some made 5D. Without 2H WJS interference, game would be possible. I agree with pard's bidding. Full hand: [hv=d=w&v=b&n=saxhdktxxxxxctxxx&w=skxxxhxdqjcakjxxx&e=sjxxxhqjtxxxdxxcx&s=sqxxhak98xxdaxcqx]399|300|Scoring: IMP 1C----pass---2H---pass pass--3D----pass---pass* pass//[/hv] Did not consider psychic issue, anyway, 3H still could be helpful. Thanks Free. BTW, it was Pclayton who sit east. That 2H .... I couldn't breath!
-
Please feel free to give your comments, it would be appreciated:))) I was sitting North, got a headache on choosing bid. I dont remember the vulnerability, let's assume Non-Vulnerable.
