Pass? Don't think partner would appreciate that. I'll bid 5C...partner will probably bid 5D over that I expect.
-
I would defo bid 4C. Can't say I thought it might be close not to.
-
Yeh I'd have to agree that jlall would mention any convention he was playing that might affect this. Am pretty sure that not playing namyats is the default, no need for him to mention every obscure convention that he's not playing. I must admit that I think I would also pass. Sure it could be a good save but it but I don't expect it to be a great save....and it could be a phantom or
-
That is true, although on the downside, game for your side looks quite a long way away, while bidding could help declarer in the play.
-
No not really, I bid 2D over 2C although that could probably be some generic try. My opponents were more sort of good club players who would never underlead Ks v slams (in my opinion) and partner of my considerations in my head was that I wouldn't expect them to find a ruff if it were there v 6 after taking the DK....they'd never really expect declarer to give them that chance I don't think...I dunno <_<

[hv=d=e&v=n&s=skqxxhaj8xdkxxxcq]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You open 1D, playing 4 card diamond suit, strong NT. Partner responds 1S, do you rebid 3S on this or only 2S. No pips at all really (yes I only bid 2).

[hv=d=w&v=b&s=sahxda97xxcjt98xx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1NT (12-14) on your left, 2H transfer on your right....are you getting involved at this stage or would you rather wait for 2S to come back around to you. Do you feel strongly either way I suppose is another thing I'd like to know.
-
[hv=d=n&v=n&n=sajtxhj7xdjt8xckx&s=sxhak8xxdaq97xcaq]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] So you reach 6H by south after a Drury auction, opposition silent. The opponents are not a great pair but not terrible but you can't necessarily expect them to do the right thing. Anyway, you get a club lead. What's your line basically. I won in hand and cashed a top heart for starters which looks fairly safe...both follow with low cards, i.e. the QT9 are the only ones out. Do you: a) bash out another top heart and rely on the diamond hook now if the queen falls or <_< cross to the king of clubs and play the jack of diamonds, being fairly sure they won't duck it if it's offside....if that works then safety play the hearts (presumably that was the point of this), although obviously only catering for QT9x on your left and risking a potential diamond ruff both on the first round and after the queen of hearts is taken.....

[hv=d=n&v=b&s=sxxhq87xxxdxxcxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You might not even have had the 8, and the other suits might have been 3-2-2 in a different order but not sure it matters. Partner opens 2NT....are you going to transfer to 3H and play there or raise to game? Fairly easy question really.
-
Definitely not going to pass, I might not have bid 3S last time around...Choice between 4D and 4NT now for me.
-
I would never bid 4 over 2 with only 2 trumps...I'd start with 2NT
-
People often say this about stiff trumps...but on this auction I would expect them to have pretty good trumps and hopefully I wouldn't be giving anything away....
-
I want to go passive too....I think I'd lead a trump though.
-
Well IMO, it depends on whether pass over 2H was forcing, and what double of 2H would have been and so forth. If pass were forcing, I would play pass and then 3D as constructive...partner may also have some heart length/shortage depending on whether his dbl would have been pen/to respectively
-
I would almost certainly pass I must admit.
-
Suppose declarer thinks for a few seconds before putting the king up, like nothing major but noticeable. Would that ever affect your decision here?
-
1. Well presumably your 3D bid would be NF, so if I had a 16 count, I might bid 3C or something like that.... 2. I like 4C as showing a good raise of hearts.
-
I must say I'm surprised that 3 people out of 4 say they wouldn't pass. I didn't pass at the table, although 2H was going for quite a lot. I was told that it was automatic to pass and that I was ridiculus not to, which I admit I did think was a bit unfair. I thought I might lead a diamond, picking up partner's holding and then the opps would make lots of diamond tricks, while I'd only make 2 trump tricks. I thought they could easily have an 8 card fit, although probably a 7 card fit but quite likely to have the balance of power. For the record partner had xxx A AJxx AQxxx and the weak two was on xx JT9xxx Kxx Kx so I'm pretty unlucky that this is going for so much, club king in the slot, stiff heart king in the dummy and so forth...we an make 6C on the hand, although we played in 3C after I lebensohled.

[hv=d=w&v=n&s=sq8haq62d86cat843]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Dealer opens 4S and that ends the auction. Partner leads the DK (from AK for count often). Dummy hits with KT JT7 QJ7 KJ652 So you play the 6 (UDCA) to show your doubleton and declarer the 3. Partner now plays the 7 of clubs, declarer puts the king up and you take the ace, declarer dropping the 9. What now? At the table the ace of hearts was now cashed...declarer played the 3 and partner the 9 (disc).... Over to you....club ruff or another diamond?

[hv=d=s&v=b&s=sjxhdkj9xxxckxxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Everytime I post a hand, I always remember the vun as game all....anyway..... I decided to open the hand 3D...Does anyone do likewise on these 6-5s? So the bidding went around to RHO who bid 3H and LHO raised to 4...what do you lead?
-
[hv=d=s&v=b&s=sakqtxxhxxdqxcajx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] So you open 1S, LHO doubles, partner passes and RHO bids 2C...your go
-
[hv=d=w&v=b&s=sajxhq87xxdxcjt97]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Playing against a pretty good pair, and LHO opens a weak only multi (weak two in either major). You play an initial double of this as Dixon style 13-15 bal or 19+... Partner passes and RHO bids 2♥ pass or correct....partner protects with a double...is this even a close decision?
-
I would play it as 5H, 4S, might only be invitational but I would never pass it...i.e. maybe invitational but forcing if that makes any sense, so you can stop in 3M. If I didn't play 1NT-2C-2D-2M as NF and I think you should, then I'd play it as 5-4 invitational and play the transfer sequence as GF I suppose.
-
Ok, perhaps a further question. How do you play 3NT? Do you play it as a better suit yourselves or do people play a similar style to this.
