  1. Pmsl, what? Well I wouldn't have dreamt of either...but East's 6♣ is by far the worst....5♣ is a bit of a joust when partner couldn't bid over 1♠ but at least you rate to find a ♠ shortage opposite. 6♣ just beggars belief...can't really think 6♣ is making...partner has to bid 5♣ under pressure.
  2. Anyone know what the appeal hand was that Auken's team won to defeat Monaco (last I checked they were 70 odd down so quite some comeback)
  3. What if you held the ace of ♥ instead of the ♣K and ♥J...i.e. a ♣ around to the K is no good, while continuing ♦ would allow a discard to be established for a ♣...i.e. need a ♥ switch?.. I mean to me a ♥ through Qx doesn't look unattractive :P....Obviously appreciate that you can't do everything...if dummy was Kxx Qxx JTxx xxx, what would be the "obvious" switch? A ♣ still?
  4. I don't really understand some of these points...I see comments like "I'm never playing a heart"....I mean obviously encouraging diamonds is game over...but how do you suggest a ♣ switch from ATx? What does "obvious switch" mean exactly? Discouraging diamonds would mean switching to clubs? And what you'd encourage ♦ if you didn't want a club switch?
  5. I would definitely bid 4♠ and would rather have bid something higher than 2♥ last time...assume 3♥ would be P/C
  6. Surely double is best if you want to take two bids (at least)...I mean if partner makes a free bid or anything other than a simple response, it makes a potential slam so much easier to bid. I mean 1S could get passed out and you have 6 red cold :P....if 1S gets passed out you would want to cry really...
  7. [hv=pc=n&s=sk932hq6djt73c862&w=s5hj74dq9642ckqj4&n=saqjt64hak2d8c973&e=s87ht9853dak5cat5&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1sp2sp4sppp]399|300[/hv] E/W were actually vun. Ace of diamonds lead. Does anybody think that they could cash out successfully? What card should West play. Playing UDCA (or any preferred signalling method)
  8. Hi I am going to have to be living temporarily at a relative's house. They don't have the internet but I am considering getting a dongle for the month. Does anybody have any idea what sort of data usage BBO gets through? I would have a 5GB limit - any ideas whether that would be any good? Cheers, Ed
  9. LHO follows to the heart. I suppose you put in the jack? That would be ruffed on this layout but you would be in pretty good shape on the layout. LHO has x QT9 Axxxx Kxxx The first line mentioned what what our declarer did but he had to go down when trumps were 4-1
  10. [hv=pc=n&s=sakj982h7542dktc6&n=sq5hakj63dcajt932]133|200[/hv] Bidding is a rather uncultured 1S-2C-2S-6S E/W are unfavourable After quite some thought, the lead is the ♥T, you play the ace and RHO the 8. Well you don't have to do that. Anyway what sort of line do you think is right? (If you play ace and ruff a ♣ RHO plays the Q on the 2nd round.
  11. I'm not saying it's not but is it normal to still play support X when responder has shown 5+ spades? I guess it helps partner to judge better if he knows you have a 4th trump, so do you think support is still the best use for X? And yeh i would pass 2C and 2H....would probably bid 4S - IMPs
  12. What's the hand / what did Meckstroth lead?
  13. Can't I just cross to the spade ace, and run the club king? As long as East has the ace of clubs, I'm cold no? That's what I would do anyway
  14. I'm keen to know what Meckstroth led :P
  15. This reminds me a little of that (Edgar Kaplan was it??) story, where he doubled a cue bid [let's say clubs] but the player held KQJ in a side suit [let's say diamonds] (which Kaplan had previously mentioned meant that God had told you to lead it)...the player led the KQJ suit and the contract made, while leading the cue bid suit would have beaten it...so Kaplan said "God told you to lead a diamond and I told you to lead a club...you guessed wrong, that's all. Actually does anyone have a link to that story as I couldn't find it :(
  16. You won't have 16 for a 2♦ rebid!?!?! I reckon I would open most flat 14s 1NT too... Not that I necessarily disagree with your pass :)
  17. Tough, I would pass to be honest. Would rather double on partner's hand. Singleton heart and a 6 card ♦ suit...could end up in the wrong part score but still, would rather double on that
  18. I would double previous round, and yes double is surely penalties....We couldn't double 1S?? But now we want to wade in with a take out double of 2S? Don't think so
  19. I would probably bid 3NT...but tbh might pass...would do one of those :P...don't feel massively strongly about which one
  20. I would double as North but if North passed, I would definitely balance with 2S. I think the bidding given is reasonable tbh! Can't be perfect on every hand. You're very close to making 3♠... I reckon it could slip through....HK lead and a diamond switch? Don't really think West would switch to their diamond but if they did and you won in dummy, you'd lead a trump off and East would have to duck...might fly to try and give partner ruff...
  21. I give East the blame, I don't even mind West's double. (Bit of a freak trump layout that it's cold off on non-♥ lead here tbf...)
  22. I'm always paranoid about hitting dummy's 5 solid opposite declarer's void/singleton, so put me down for a ♣...hopefully we're playing 3/5 leads.
  23. Passing 2H is just absurd. If someone appealed saying they should have passed 2H, I would keep the deposit. And I don't think the process should take more than 30s to sort out...
