[hv=d=e&v=n&s=shk8xxxxdaxcaj8xx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You are playing in a teams event, and RHO opens a weak 2S. You bid 4C, leaping michaels, showing clubs and hearts. LHO bids 4S, and your partner thinks for a bit, before offering 4NT. This is the first time you've ever played with this person and you have no agreements here obviously. Your partner is no mug though and you suspect that this is just some sort of slam try. What do you bid and what are your thoughts on your hand in general anyway?

[hv=d=s&v=b&s=sqjtxhjtdxckqt987]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You're playing very good players in a Swiss Teams competition, and you pass as dealer. LHO opens 1D playing SAYC style and partner makes a take out double. RHO then bids 2H which is a fit showing jump and it's your call.

It was MP scoring. I led the club jack. Dummy has a 2272 shape with AKQJxxx of diamonds. Partner has the ace of clubs, and a heart lead was needed to beat it. I didn't see any problem with a club lead but had a few players telling me that I should have led a heart. I thought they were being results merchants personally, and the answers here suggest that I was right. Thanks :)

The auction has gone 2NT-6NT. 2NT shows 19-20 (it's part of some acol system in England). Your hand is: J7xx KQx xx JT9x

[hv=d=n&v=n&n=saqjt6hk542dt8cak&s=s82hdkq7cqj987643]133|200|Scoring: IMP How do you bid these hands playing 2/1. Invitational jump shifts to 1M. if you ahve a fancy gadget then let me know :)[/hv]

I think I'm going to try 3NT...Axx is much more preferable to Ax and partner won't balance on a 10 count very often..

good hand for xfer advances

I think I would have bid 1NT rather than 2C...surely if you are worth a 2D response, you can bid 2H on the way? The overcaller could have 3 hearts and/or 4 spades. -
If partner does indeed have 2 spades, then he'll have a very good hand!. I like 5D alot and I'd be quite annoyed with my partner if it didn't turn out to be a good spot. 3NT is surely to play...After (1S)-X-(3S), you dont stretch to bid 3NT on a reasonable 8-9 count do you?

I like double

I can't really see myself stopping in 6 here.
-
I like that defence too...but I've always been worried about the auction going...(2D)-Pass [having take out of spades]-(3S), passed round to you and you ending up missing a game, being unable to make a take out double at this level. Also, have people seen the multi opener having spades and passing the 2H response before? How do you cope with that :/? Partner might have a 14 count with 4 hearts and you the same.

That'll cheer McGrath up...I've heard he fancies himself as a bit of a batsman! The Aussie team looks pretty fearsome to be honest!

Competitive MP bidding
ewj replied to mike777's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Pass seems fairly obvious. I don't see why you can say that you have "extras" for your 2 level overcall. I would consider this a pretty minimum overcall on a 5 card suit at the 2 level! -

I think I would pass actually

Incidently, where can we see either the commentary/archives of the Junior Camrose?

I played in the U20s event and would have loved to have played on vugraph but at the end of the day, the other U20 teams did not want to have to take the criticism (even if they did deserve it) as they were inexperienced and young (as one has already mentioned, some were as young as 12). At the end of the day, the U20 competition standard was pretty poor so it was probably wise not to broadcast. It's not a case of being sensitive...it's about encouraging young players who are just learning, to improve and to enjoy the game. Why would a captain want to allow their team to go on vugraph if there were going to be commentators to make fun at their standard. I wouldnt care if someone like Mark criticised me on vugraph...I know when I have done something stupid and it wont make me give up bridge but at the end of the day, the home nations of the UK are often struggling to put a side out, so they need to avoid all the discouragement they can.

I am sorry to bring this post back up..... that looks good. But do you play anything like that after 1x-1y-2NT? Also if responder has 5 hearts and 5 diamonds weak and it goes 1C-1H-1NT-2C, should opener puppet to 2H instead with 3 card support and only 2 diamonds as would rather play there than 2D. Thanks -
the jack of spades with West wins this....East following. I think you have made now since spades 3-2
-
Ok...so the queen is beaten by RHO's king, and a diamond returned...you win this with the queen....now what
-
Anyone else care to give their system :D
-
Sorry King of hearts followed by Ace from West. East had doubled.
-
Hi If not playing Keri, how do people show the various hand types over a weak (or even strong if can apply to both), NT?
