I've come across contrasting styles but what do people think about doubling 4[H] openings on AJx x KJxx Kxxxx No pips...you are at favourable (4H was first in)...would it make any difference if the vun were equal or if you had 4 spades? What if partner protects with a double, you bid 4NT prob...do you give it a 6th?

Yeh, fair enough...auction was the same at the other table (which is where I was watching, and there they were playing 5cM and a strong NT I think). But like you said, probably irrelevant.

Ben Green was pretty surprised to be drawn that high, which I suppose says something, while it genuinely astounds me to see some seeded above others. Can't say I'm unhappy about my draw... Poor Shillitoe, was he seeded last year? He did well then and not seeded this time out despite some poorer teams being so, he doesn't have a great first round draw, although I see a potential rematch with Team Cooper for him if results go to plan.....

I've always bid 1[H] on these sort of hands.....maybe I should be bidding 4[H] though as it puts plenty of pressure on the opponents.

For those of you who play these, does not X/XXing deny 3 card support? I mean, say you have a 0355 17 count and the bidding starts 1D-(P)-1H-(1S), would you still double first?

Yeh, I would overcall. If I would open this, I would open my longest suit first but now I pass.

3[D] obviously and pass, assuming the ace of spades is on my right.

I'd be tempted by 2NT on the first one, would rather have a better suit than JTxxx. Bizarre bidding and really not sure what to lead. I guess the bidding suggests that declarer is void in one of partner's suits, and it's way more likely to be clubs, so I guess a spade is a good shot.

Well I bash down the AK of trumps and hope the queen drops or that they're 4-1 with 4 on my right and I can trump coup it....the outstanding master diamond is pretty much marked with RHO if there is one

I would also bid 5♥ and would've passed last time

I'd defo raise 3♠ to 4 and might even pass 3♥
