  1. [hv=s=sj962hkj83dtcat87]133|100|Scoring: MP 2NT - 3NT[/hv] 4th best agreed. Why do you lead what?
  2. [hv=d=n&v=e&s=skq87643ht7dcjt97]133|100|Scoring: IMP 1♦- p - 1♠ - 2♥ p - p - 2♠ - 3♦ p - 3♥- 3♠ all p[/hv] SAYC SJS no gadgets. Void in partners suit do you blast 4♠ in first bidding round?
  3. No it's not. It's a 2♣ rebid, 12-18 at least 5-4 in the minors. 3♦ would deny four clubs although you can choose to ignore them if they are tiny. Roland Thanks, wasnt aware of that. Move a small club to hearts. Is it a 3♦ over 1♥ or 1♠ now in Bridgevejen? ♠ 5 ♥ Q82 ♦ AKJ942 ♣ AJ8
  4. I would open 1♦ and bid 3♦ over any 1M, but I have this sneaking feeling that you need a stronger hand in SA. In the danish beginner system (an Acol'ish variant) this is clearly worth 3♦
  5. 1♣ - 1♥ 3♣ - 3♥ Is 3♥ forcing in SA(YC) or 2/1 ? Does playing wjs make a difference?
  6. Last night playing local duplicates in a large mixed field. Partner declared 3NT in the first game of the round and her LHO used a lot of time defending. At one point LHO used about 3 to 4 minutes or so. He finally lead a small through dumy that had two small in the suit and then RHO started thinking! Arguing with him self, gesturing, taking out a card, putting it back, thinking again etc. What was he doing while his partner was thinking? The whole game took way more than half the time alotted for three games, ours opps using all the time. I was a little annoyed because I know slow play sometimes make my partner loose her concentration. She made 9 with 11 needed for average. Nice defense and they have the right to think and use time. Then RHO declares 2♦ on a 4-3 fit missing a solid 8 card major fit and takes his wee time to play it for the obvious below average. RHO is scoring the result, his cards for the last game still in the pocket, around us a few tables are finished and start to get up. A few minutes remaining. As my partner is sorting her cards and not beeing slow about it at all, RHO tells her: "Hurry, we dont have much time!" I went from calm to steaming in a split second. Could not control it. I told RHO in no uncertain terms that his remark was uncalled for and that he was beeing very rude. DIRECTOR! I called out, twice and quite loud, im afraid. RHO apologized. I told the director I wanted to assert that our opponent had used all of the time and now was beeing very rude. His reply was that he would give us another two minutes to finish the board if we played it quick. We did. RHO taking 10 tricks in 3♥ with half the field making game. It was obvious for anyone that I was steaming and visibly shaking, but I kept my mouth shut. After the game I asked RHO his name, because their card had only their forenames. Only then I realized they are experienced and current national team players! That made me really mad! I wont quote what I then told him, there was some profanity. Walking away from the table I called out loud "What an idiot!" Sitting down at the next table I was still shaking, had to get up and take a short walk and sitting down again I apologized and cracked a halfharted joke about me having such a temper I would end up like a hooligan entering the football field during the game (Denmark just lost a match that way). That took off some steam and we could laugh about it and I calmed down. After that round I apologized again to our opponents, who said they didnt mind at all. I think they were affected though because they played very poorly. Sorry guys, if you read this. I was beeing the idiot. How could a little remark like that make me go ballistic ? I still think RHO deserved the full load. Just wished I could have reacted in a cool and calm manner.
  7. Im not asking bout the heart duck now :) I am asking if south can see the shift to a spade in trick two instead of returning a heart.
  8. [hv=d=w&v=b&e=sj9h83dajt96ckjt2&s=skt52hk9dk75c9643]266|200|Scoring: IMP 1NT - 3NT Lead fourth best ♥4,3,K,5 Return ?[/hv] Hand seen from the other side. Its a hand from a BI tourney with predealt defense problems. I havnt seen the comments. By accident I played the hand twice and both deals my partner lead back the ♥9. Can south see that a spade shift is needed?
  9. [hv=d=w&v=b&n=sq84hat642d843c87&e=sj9h83dajt96ckjt2]266|200|Scoring: IMP 1NT - 3NT play ♥4,8,K,5 back ♥9,J, ?[/hv] North lead 4th best. South will play back 4th best if he started with 4 or more, except with a good reason not to, and will play highest back from 3. How do you figure out what to do now as North? Is there any reason not to play the ♥2 hoping partner has the 7?
  10. Thanks for answers. I now think that this is very much a matter of style of preempts. I first postion both me and my partner would open a weak 2♠ with either of these hands (except when vul vs. not): J109xxxx x xx Jxx AQJ10x xx xx xxxx J10xxxx xx Kx Qxx Undisciplined preempts does not leave a lot of hands that would bid after 1NT :)
  11. pass - pass - 1m - 1NT 2M ? Assume SAYC or like with weak 2's, X of 1NT is penalty/strength. What hand can bid 2 major over 1NT that did not open with a preempt? Is this a matter of style of preempts?
  12. Pass. too weak for x or 2d will not bid 3d in front of an unpassed p with lousy d and an outside ace. Thank you. Was my line of thinking too. This is not a preempt for me with an unpassed partner. An outside A and K and no AKQ in my suit. Only ♦ 10 and 9 made me think about bidding. I did not even consider a vul 2♦ overcall. Bidding went 1♠ - 3♣ (7-9 and 4+ ♠) 3♠ all pass. Do you consider bidding after 3♠ ? Selling out was not good: http://www.bridge.dk/4278/Klub1/Turneringe...illing3382.html Edit: EKDB = AKQJ :)
  13. [hv=d=e&v=b&s=s5ha85dj1096432ck7]133|100|Scoring: MP 1♠ ?[/hv] Its MP, all vul and RHO opens 1♠ in first position. What do you bid and why?
  14. Thank you for the answers. Can you help me try to learn why responder should bid on after 2♦? I understand I have a good hand. ♦D is good now, ♣AK are good, nice J109 combo in ♥. However, opener has made a minimum rebid (in the example he has a way stronger hand that I thought possible, I regret posting it now), so I was thinking opener has a maximum of 14 HCP or a bad 15? Trying to reach 3NT at MP's with a known shortness in spades and a minimum of HP seems awfull agressive. 5♦ is out too, so that leaves 4♥. If responder bids 3♦, does that imply 5♥? I think not and if opener chooses to bid 3♥ over 3♦ with three card support, he is risking to play on a 4-3 fit.
  15. [hv=d=e&v=e&n=sa4hak4daj9743cj6&s=s107hj10953dq8cak95]133|200|Scoring: MP p - p - p - 1♦ p - 1♥-p - 2♦ all pass [/hv] How much does opener need for a 3♦ jump in standard american / SAYC ? I am playing an Acol'ish system offline where 3 ♦ is 15-17 HCP and a 6 card suit, so these auctions often bite me when playing online. Would you bid 3♣ as responder over 2♦? I know opener opened in 4th hand with max 3 spades, so he figures to have a good hand, but I still thought he was 12-14.
  16. Opener did not open 2♣ in 4th pos but liked a splinter in ♦ so much he went right to blackwood when partner showed zero or one ace. Why did he like a ♦ splinter? Because he does not have many wasted values in ♦. So he might vere well have ♣ values. I dont think my ♠E will go away, and I dont like to open ♣'s! I am going passive with a ♥.
  17. I am viewing the old articles at http://www.bridgebase.com/articles/index.html but the deals never show. Looking at the source code it has APPLET CODE="dealdoc.class". I remember reading about it a long time ago but dont recall the details anymore. Is it something I have to install or fiddle with my IE security settings to allow it to run?
  18. [hv=d=s&s=s93hk65dkj5caq654]133|100|[/hv] A: 1♣ - (p) - 1♥ - (p) - ? (Opps silent) B: 1♣ - (1♠) - X - (p) - ? In A I bid 2♥ 100%. It is exactly what my beginner system tells me to do. Its what my partner expects. NO need to bid 2♣ or 1NT when I have a perfectly normal bid! In B I also bid 2♥ without hesitation. Why do experts Washington Bridge League Solver's Club - Jan/Feb 2007 dislike 2♥ so much in B, that they rather rebid 1NT or 2♣ ? Is this a matter of style or is there some bridge-logic behind it, that I dont get? Original thread Pick a partsscore, MPs in Advanced/Expert.
  19. This what I play: 1A 6, to play 2B 6, slam invite 2A 5, depends, dont bid it without agreement :-) 2B 6 Quant 3 6, Blackwood with spades agreed
  20. Local pairs [hv=d=s&v=n&s=sa74haq876dqjck102]133|100|Scoring: MP 1♥* 2♦ - p - p ?[/hv] 1♥ shows four+. With four good hearts opener can still have a weak 4 card minor. 1NT is 15-17, but we do not open 1NT with good 5 card major suits. Partner has a weak hand or a penalty double of 2 ♦. Would you reopen with an X? What if partners pass took a little time longer than normal, indicating she had some kind of choice?
  21. Just bragging about a nice hand I played today B) Local pairs [hv=d=e&v=n&n=skq2h82dqj1083c984&w=st85hk65da654cq62&e=saj963haq104dk92cj&s=s74hj973d7cak10753]399|300|Scoring: MP 1♠-3♣ - P - P X - P - 3♠ - 4♣ 4♠ all pass[/hv] ♣K lead and shift to ♦7 to ♦A. Spade to ♠Q and ♠A an another spade to the ♠K. ♦Q back to the ♦K. Two more rounds of spades with south discarding ♣'s, north discarding ♦'s and I look at [hv=d=e&v=n&n=skq2h82dqj1083c984&w=st85hk65da654cq62&e=saj963haq104dk92cj&s=s74hj973d7cak10753]399|300|Scoring: MP 1♠-3♣ - P - P X - P - 3♠ - 4♣ 4♠ all pass[/hv] With all cards in view it may seem easy, but I cannot count! I play in the dark, so to speak B) so my plan was still to play A♥, K♥ and finesse. But then I saw it cannot cost to just play the ♦9 and on the ♦ return there was a nice sqeeze. ♥A, ♥K, and when north showed out on the next ♥ it was sooo nice to see the ♥J drop under the ♥Q. The preempter had four hearts afterall. Open the score and see 3x420 and 2x170. Huh? Did I miss something easy or get a good defense, cause im pretty sure the field did not do this squezze.
  22. I would pass first round. 7 hcp and void in partners suit. I dont want to encourage partner and no need to rescue yet.
  23. [hv=d=e&s=saxxxhakjd8xxxc8x]133|100|3♣ - p - p - 3♦ p - ?[/hv] RHO opens 3♣ in first seat. I was in doubt both at the first and second bidding round B) I am seeking advice on how to make the best decision. 1) Do you agree pass or would you make a takeout double? 2) How do you evaluate the hand when partner bids 3♦ in the takeout seat? Does vulnerability or form of scoring influence the hand evaluation?
  24. Thank you, very helpfull. The hand actually hand single spade. I was typing from memory at work. I see that all my HCP are working now and no Q's or J's. My hand has improved. I knew that much at the table :) I just didnt think of 4♣. Im still not sure I really want to bid 4♣ now. 4♠ is not really an escape with single ♠. The sequence 1♣ 1♠ 2♣ 2♥ is also beeing discussed in another thread. In my mind the 2♥ bidder does not need a lot for that bid. 2♣ could be on 5, since with 4-5 minors we always open ♣ and dislike bidding 1NT on 2245 or 1345. K K6 863 AK108532
  25. Thank you all! Can you give me good arguments why 4♣ now is forcing and slammish? 2♥ is not more than invit and 3♣ was not forcing. An intermediate could easily be unsecure about 4♣ and guess it as invitational? my hand was: Kx K xxx AK10xxxxx Do you agree my bidding(1♣, 2♣, 3♣)? We didnt get to grand but played a dangerous 3NT for a small gain (520/440)
