  1. What is the correct card to play from four small when giving a COUNT signal using standard carding? BBO/Explore/Learn to play/signal lesson says signal loudest card, but in BIL teaching sessions i have heard to play the 7 (second highest) What is the correct card to play second time around and why? 9753 first 9 or 7, next 3 or 5? Would it be any different from another combo say 5432?
  2. [hv=v=n&s=saqhj732d87ca7653]133|100|Scoring: XIMP p - 1♣ - 2♦ - x p - 2♠ - 3♦ all pass[/hv] BIL individual , no agreements SAYC. I attended a BIL teaching session which advocated that X does not show both majors, not even 4-3. I planned to bid 3♣ over 2♠. Then I would have shown ♥suit, ♣support and invitational values, right? Then came the unexpected 3♦ bid and well .. they stole it down 2. - If you play that x does not show both majors, does 3♣ deny a major? - If I bid 3♣ is p's 3♥ a ♥suit or just control showing looking for 3NT? - Is it common or uncommon to play that 1mi - 2mi - x does not show both majors (say with a random BBO partner)?
  3. Was an individual BIL tourney so no agreements, lebensohl not on. I bid 3NT at the table (after thinking so long they started asking if I was there :-)) I thought I had two options: 3NT or X followed by 3NT. Since p is a passed hand the risk of missing a slam is lesser and I dont see any way to stop under 3NT anyway. - If p has a wery weak hand with 6 spades, not able to open 2S she will bid 4S. - If p has enough to bid bid 3S after X she will bid over 3NT. - If p bids 2S over X I still have to bid 3NT, right ? - P will not make a penalty pass with my H holding. - If p was not passed I would X. Still a clear majority for X. Why am I thinking wrong ?
  4. [hv=v=b&s=sak7haj8dak2cq983]133|100|Scoring: XIMP pass - 2♥ - ??[/hv] From todays BIL. What to bid here ?
  5. I am quite insecure about autions like this 1X- 2Y - p - p ? - p - ? Im am going from the following definition, which is from the Danish beginner system Bridgevejen(4 card major acol like system), taught to most beginners in Denmark: When I choose not to a bid a negative x, I *expect* opener to reopen with an x! Opener could choose not to x if: 1) she has length in the bid suit 2) or she has a hand not suitable for defense (bid a suit) How do you like this definition? Would pickup partners on BBO play by this? Any good links to texts on negative bids for beginners in SAYC? Thanks
  6. [hv=d=s&v=e&n=sq4hk42dkj10654cj10&s=skhaq86da98caq876]133|200|Scoring: MP 1♣ - 2♠ - p - p X - p - 3♦ - pass all [/hv] Individual BBO tourney. Expert partner. Partner opens. First: Is my hand worth a 3♦ bid?. Seems like most other bidders thought it was. I would consider this as forcing to game and didnt think I was strong enough. Second: I cant X with three hearts, right? Third: When p reopens that gives me the chance to pass if i have the penalty hand(spades). The x doesnt imply a strong hand, just distribution right? How should it have been bid?
  7. How do I invite? 3 spades is just further preempt, right? I think 2NT would be natural with no agreement?
  8. [hv=v=n&n=skj10963ha102d654cj&s=saq42hk5dq7cq7642]133|200|Scoring: XIMP 1CL - 2SP - p - ?[/hv] BIL tourney. Another vul overcall situation. I am responder now. I think long then pass. I was thinking: If p doesnt have a 1-level overcall he does not have much besides spades so we wont burn a vul game- but then again there is no need to preempt further. How would you bid and why?
  9. OK, so the 6-4 distribution makes up for the lack of HCP. If p bids 1♠ (good 5 card suit - invit - say at least 9 good HCP since I could have up 16-17) I bid 2♥ since 2♦ would accept invit ? Really in our system I should pass but that cant be right with single spade?
  10. [hv=v=b&s=s1043hj9765dk92c109]133|100|Scoring: XIMP[/hv] Partner opens 2NT (20-21) We had bid two questionable 3NT's sofar, both down 2. This hand I thought long about then bid 3♦ - 3♥ - pass making 3, loosing 10 IMPS :-( Is this a 3NT bid after transfer? How about at MP's ?
  11. [hv=d=w&v=b&s=sahq106532dk654c87]133|100|Scoring: XIMP[/hv] You hold this hand as North. West opens 1♣. Pass, 1♥ or 2♥? For me this hand is not close to a vul overcall, but a weak jump would be ok if feeling in aggresive mood :-). Teacher choose 1♥. Is it a matter of style? Peter Laursen
  12. [hv=d=s&v=b&s=sq986hak4d8caj632]133|100|Scoring: XIMP 1CL - 1HE - 1SP - 2HE ?[/hv] (opps bidding ♥) Playing acol (danish bridgevejen) I count the south hand as 16 points (14 HCP and single ♦) and bid 3♠ showing 16-18. I would bid 3♠ at MP's with p showing 4+ spades. This is IMP's across the field, partner has shown 5 spades, competive auction and we are red, so I want to push for game and thus need to show values right now. At a teaching session in BIL the teacher choose 2♠. Where am I going wrong here? Is it because this is SA(YC) bidding? Peter Laursen
