Partner doubles 2♠ and leads 8♦ Your agreements are that you now make an attitude signal (upside down) Do you play the 7, to say "I dont like diamonds, please shift" or do you play the 2, to say "yes I have the queen"? (you do not play Smith echo or other advanced agreements) And more in the general: Do you use attitude to tell partner your holding in that suit or to ask partner to continue the suit or shift to another?

[hv=pc=n&w=shkj9daqj9cakt842&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=p1s2c4sppdp5cpp5sppp]133|200[/hv] Teams. Partner dealt and passed. I overcalled 2♣ and doubled for takeout over 4♠. How do you rate my bidding? In a recent article on bridgewinners is was recommended that you can overcall lighter when partner is a passed hand, cause he wont hang you, and you can get your suit in lighter. However if you also overcall a strong 18HCP hand like this, then the overcall has a *very* wide range here. I was not sure how to handle this.

The R/W Matchpoint 1N
plaur replied to mtvesuvius's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Bridgewinners has a recent article "Passed Hand Partner: Overcalling" that I thought was a good read. http://bridgewinners.com/bridge-articles/119-advanced/532-passed-hand-partner-overcalling Quote: "The most common adjustment neccessary is to refrain from overcalling 1NT on close hands. Since partner passed, the risk of missing game drops considerably. TIP: Consider making a takeout double opposite a passed partner with some marginal balanced 15 point hands." -
Oh, just some local danish players. Not names anyone on here would recognize.

I was subbing and got scared by opponents usualy playing games classes above. Both very nice and friendly at table and not intimidating all at. I just could not forget all the times I have read thier names and seen thier games on print. So after the 4♥ I just passed without thinking to much of it  A penalty double would have been 800 or 1100. Now they got off for 200 after sloppy defense.

After they run from a trap pass
plaur replied to plaur's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Thank you. If we remove on Ace from the hand, then along above thoughts, do we still bid 2♠, or is pass now the bid showing a mimimum opener? Hand B: [hv=pc=n&s=sq642hj3daj864ca9&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1d2cppdpp2h]133|200[/hv] -
[hv=pc=n&s=saq64hj3daj864ca9&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1d2cppdpp2h]133|200[/hv] Partner has a trap pass of clubs, now they are running to hearts. How should opener react in general in these situations? What would you bid on the actual hand?

What is max for 1H after 1C p p ?
plaur replied to plaur's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Oh jeez now and went and posted a 12 card hand. Thought it never be me lol. Looked up the hand. Imps, none vul, KJ732 Q7 2 QJ852 I didnt like a 1S overcall. Guess I still dont. -
Judgement and hand evaluations from players like you (and many others) are the main reasons I read these forums! I do find it interesting that this hand is close to 3S. And, LOL, no I am not questioning your abilty. When my judgement deviates from that of a good player I jump in and ask - to learn!

[hv=pc=n&n=s7hkqjt76543dac43&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1sp2hp3dp3hp4dp]133|200[/hv] Online pickup, 2♥ is not game forcing - in fact played in an environment where 2H often played acol style 10+. Thus 3♦ is the first gameforcing bid. Agree with 2♥ and 3♥ and now what?
-
Why is 2S questionable? I would bid 2S. Nice hand, but still a 6 looser hand with 10 active HCP's. 3S is too much and 3D would nat gf for me, not mini-splint. btw, big thanks to jillybean for asking many good questions here and thanks to all who does reply! I rarely reply but read all the answers and try to learn from them.

What is max for 1H after 1C p p ?
plaur replied to plaur's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
The actual hands hand were from a online pickup game. I had the spade hand and found it a little embarrasing to see partner make 200. I knew my red quacks were good cards. Just didn't imagine partner having such a good hand for a balancing 1H. KJxxx Qx QJxxx x T AKTxxx AKxx Qx 1C pa pa 1H pa 1S pa 2D 3C 3D pa 3H all pass Edit: added a small diamond -

I got a heart lead and played a spade to the ace, both opponents following. I drew trumps, ran club 9 to the Q and without really getting a count of the hands, took another club finesse. Made 12 with clubs KTxxx on side. There seems to be a lot of options but I cant figure out the best plan. How would you play?

Difficulties and frustrations of bridge
plaur replied to 1axbycz1's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
For understanding concepts of bidding this is a great start: http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=12700&hl= and this one: http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=12429&st=0 -

a hand for beginners
plaur replied to olliebol's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Is this a beginners hand? First try, and probably wouldnt find anything else at table: K♠, A♠ AQ♣, Q♠, K♣ pitching small ♥ lead towards Q♥. LHO overtakes with ♥K and leads back ♥ A♥, ruff ♥ and lead ♦ up to a nasty guess At least I get 75% (♥K onside, ♦ guess) -

West directly over 3♠ or East on the final pass? How do you decide who should make the penalty double (if any) in a macthpoint competetive auction? EDIT: East did bid 3♥ directly over 2♠

Congrats! You made it.[hv=n=sak743ha2dkj4ckt6&w=s9hj97643dqt73cq9&e=sqjt862hkt5d2c872&s=s5hq8da9865caj543]399|300|[/hv]

Guess we'll wait to be told but maybe it's 18-19 which would make bidding again understandable. 2♦ was acol and 3NT 18-19. I thought it was a good slam. Just needs 9 minor suit tricks, so finding either Q is good

What is the best plan?
plaur replied to plaur's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
No trickery. Just me beeing on the wrong side of 3 slam swings in one 32 board match last night and trying to learn from my mistakes... Appreciate all input!
