Another one I misplayed: [hv=n=sa83hjdjt8432ck93&s=skt965ht2dak76cq7]133|200|Scoring: IMP's[/hv] 1♠-(2♥)-2♠-(3♥) p-(4♥)-4♠-All pass ♥K lead for J, 8 and T Followed by ♣5 from West for 3, A and 7 East plays ♣2 for your Q and 6 of West. You now play a small ♠, West playing the ♠J. How do you continue.

Thanks all for the reply. I was the only one who choose 2♣, so it seems like I should consider 1NT without a stop. Partners hand: ♠K75 ♥A ♦854 ♣K98653 Bidding: (1H)-p-(p)-2C (2H)-4C-(4H)-p (p)-5C-(p)-p (DBL) 5C!-1 I can find this hand in my hands. It is hand 14 in: http://online.bridgebase.com/myhands/hands...95&username=kgr Question: How can I determine and copy the link to only that specific hand?

[hv=d=w&v=n&s=sj6h653dkj76caqj4]133|100|Scoring: IMP (1H)-p-(p)-??[/hv] I wondered what the best bid is here.
-
BTW: I thought this hand is very interesting to study because it teaches trump control and communicating (Not playing a 2nd trump allows communication to S to draw trumps). ...So i should thank N for leaving and triggering me to study this hand. B)

jdonn's analysis was pretty complete. East has 1=6=5=1. I misplayed first by playing 2 ♠'s. You only go -2 then (you switch to ♣ until West ruffs and West then has to play ♦ in double ruff. You ruff in N and play H until West ruffs. You can ruff Diamond return, play ♠ to get West's last trump and cashthe winners). B) I did ruff ♦ at the end, but ending with ♠K and ♥8 (♥K in dummy) I played ♥ giving W a ruff and another trick for -3. ...That was probably enough reason for North to criticise my bidding and play and to leave.

[hv=d=e&v=n&n=saj6haktdq7caq652&s=skqt5h842d6ckt943]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] (2H)-P-(p)-DBL (3D)-3S-(4D)-4S (5D)-P-(P)-5S (p)-p-(DBL)-All pass (North blamed South for bidding 3S. I guess a DBL by South would be penalty?) Lead ♦A (East ♦8) ♦3 to ♦K , South discarding ♥2. East plays ♣J for ♣A in North (West ♣8). You now play ♠A from North, East ♠8 and West ♠2. How do you continue now?

Thanks all for the answers. I had this kind of hand non-vul (not sure if opps wer vuln) at MP's. I had some HCP's - like 5 - and maybe a singleton ♥ (...looks like I'mm changing the conditions here). I passed and saw that everybody till then was in 2 or 3♠ making 4. Partner had 13 HCP. PS: we play multi-landy with penalty DBL over 1NT.

[hv=d=w&v=e&s=sxxxxxxhxxdxxcxxx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] (1NT)-p-(p)-? Do you need anything to bid 2S here? what is the minimum you change to bid 2S?
-
DBL is normal takeout with 12+ and the cue bid of the minor can be done with weaker hands (something like 7-12)
-
I agree that we have a disadvantage in the bidding if 5-5 Majors (If 15+ and 5-5 then we bid 3♦). But I think that 4-4/4-5 is more frequent then 5-5.
-
DBL is not anti-systemic. ..I thought about it and I know think it is far better to start with a DBL with a strong hand. For me the problem is not that 2D would to too wide ranging - it is forcing anyway - but rather that partner is supposed to choose a Major. And with this strong hand you prefer to have an idea of partner's length in the suit bid (eg if he has 3=3=4=4, 2=2=4=5...). I think we can agree that even with the 2♦ bid available that DBL is a better start. (Partner had 2=3=4=4 hand and no useful points).
-
I can understand that you prefer DBL over 2♦ and that the bid I choose was very very bad and utterly stupid, but I don't understand how you can say that you dislike the method when I only said that 2♦ shows both majors. I don't see how it can be that much worse then f.i. 2♦ showing 5-5 majors. ...so if you say 3 times that it is a very bad method, can you explain why? I agreed this with my partner (if forced to fi 3♥ then bidding 3♥ is weaker then pass), but he forgot it.

What is Chicago and do they play ot for money in London?
-
I don't understand this. You can also DBL as take-out iso 2♦ if you want. What exactly do you think is so bad of the method?
-
Interesting. I didn't even occur to me to bid 3♠. (Maybe I play too much MP's.) 3♠ does feel more like a 7-card ♠ with some points, but maybe a 6-4 also warrants a 3♠ bid.

[hv=d=e&v=n&s=sakjxxhaqxxdxxcaq]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] (1♦)-2♦!!-(P)-2♥ (p)-3♦-(DBL)-P (p)-4♥-All pass 2♦=both majors, from 4-4, strength like overcall or better. 3♦=Not discussed, but clearly an invite for 4 4♥=♠Q and a 4-card ♥ could be enough for 4♥, so I better bid it myself. ...Comments?

[hv=d=e&n=sxxhxxxxdaxxckxxx&s=sakxxxxhxxdxcajtx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] (1♦)-1♠-(2♦)-P (P)-2♠-(p)-p (3♦)-All pass (Edited: Bidding did not end with 2♠, but with 3♦) I don't remember my exact hand (I thought that I had only 11HCP). I started with 1♠ overcall because I felt too strong for a weak 2♠, and continues with 2♠ to show a 6-card and around an opening (11-16, we would start with a DBL if more). Looks like South has shown his hand and North dos not really have a bid. Do you think the good 4♠ should be reached here?

Double Post (edited post was not changing the orignal one, but creating a new one). Ignore this one!!

...I never played rubber and tried to understand the scoring from wikipedia explanation... What are the tactics in Rubber bridge? In clubs where you play for money (...do they still exist a lot?..) they play always rubber bridge? And you are not supposed to play there with your regular partner? Is level of play in rubber clubs mostly high?
-
This quantitative is clear in a 1NT-4NT context for me, but it is less here. What did partner show and when has he a K extra? ...as a beginner, I prefer Tylere's description that 4NT shows something like a max strong NT (...not sure I like the something in it)
-
(3H)-DBL-(P)-4NT (P)-?? 4NT = quantitative. What exactly is meant with quantitative? When should DBLer bif 6NT or 7NT here?
-
What are these DBL's fo you (The first bidding appeared on rgb with a hand and some posters - nobody objecting - suggested a takeout DBL. I would think it is penalty after you first showed values in their suit): (1x)-1NT-(2x)-P- (P)-DBL (1x)-1NT-(2x)-DBL We had this auction yesterday at MP's. (1♣)-P-(2♣)-P (P)-DBL-(P)-2NT (3♣)-P-(P)-DBL
-
Is 3H forcing? I thought it was 8-11 HCP?
-
how do you play it after opponents inteverne against your 1NT opener. A common thing is slow showes, fast denies. But even if you have agreed, that fast denies, I doubt you find a lot of peoble to bid 3NT direct without a stopper. With kind regards Marlowe I like something like TylerE's suggestion: Fast denies 4 card OM and 3NT promises stop: 3NT = stop, no 4OM 3opp = no 4OM, no stop 2N-3C-3opp = 4OM with no stop 2N-3C-3NT = 4OM, stop
-
To be clear about what I'm looking for (..after?): Having Lebenshol, how do you use it to show stopper, no stopper, 4cH with stopper...? (I'm not sure that I like that going via 2NT alwayse denies stopper. Maybe it is better to play that going via 2NT shows a 4 card H?)
