He will have to ruff with his last trump after which we will still make a ♠ and ♣A. If discard a ♠ then declarer can discard a ♣ from dummy (East will have to keep stopping ♥ and have to discard a ♣). Declarer plays a ♣ to the K in dummy and a ♣ back to his Q. His 3rd ♣ will be higher then your 5.

Invite or game, everyone else was in game except m

I would think it is around 50% and that it is enough for wanting to be in it. ...NV game needs around 40%? (I have actually no idea, but that is my guess.) BTW: - I would not have invited, but bid game. - Seems like 3♦ is not a useful invite with AKQx. How do you expect partner to look at his ♦'s to decide if he should go to 4 or not? I would rather invite with 2NT. -
You have this monster...

I think the main difference is the vulenrability. IMHO: The OP hand would be a clear pass at green, but is a lot less clear vul against not. -
3S here. (In my system 3♣ is 7-10 HCP, 4 card raise. I would bid 3♣ with that and bid 4♥ next; except if partner asks, in that case I show my ♦ singleton and max hand).

If you overtake a heart then you only have 2 winners in Hearts and West will be able to stop them with a 3-card and therfore it is better to overtake a club (If a squeeze is better then playing for ♠Hx)? Yes. The problem is that the squeeze only works with Hx not working when East is 3451 exactly with KJx of spades, whilst playing for Kx picks up 2353, 2254, 2155 with the squeeze not working (and playing for Jx picks up 3352, 3253, 3154) ...BTW: If East wins the 3rd ♠ can't he then return a ♦ to break a possible squeeze?

Tx again. RHO had ♠Kx. My partner did play this hand and this is the first time I really think about it (..and it all looks so easy when it is explained by Frances :blink: ). I'm not sure, but I think my partner took over the ♥. He did go -1.

4 ♦ is splinter ♦ with 12-14 3♦ is shortness somwhere with 10-12. Opener can ask which void/singleton with 3♥

[hv=d=n&v=n&s=sxxxhaqxxxxdqcxxx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] Partner opens 1H (5 card Majors). You have following agreements: 3♥: 4 card ♥ and 4-7 HCP 4♥: preemptive raise 3♣: 4 card ♥ and 7 to 10 HCP If you bid 3♣ then partenr will inquire with 3♦ and you can bid - 3♥ : minimum - 4♥: max - 4♦ : singleton ♦

Frances, First of all: thanks a lot for taking the time to answer this play question. If you overtake a heart then you only have 2 winners in Hearts and West will be able to stop them with a 3-card and therfore it is better to overtake a club (If a squeeze is better then playing for ♠Hx)?

[hv=d=w&v=n&n=stxxxhkxxxdtxcaxx&s=saqxxhaqdaq98xckq]133|200|Scoring: IMP (P)-P-(1D)-DBL (P)-2D-(P)-6NT 2D=4cardM and 7+[/hv] both North and South did overbid (as well as Eeast) and didn't reach the better 6♠. LHO leads ♦2 (leads 1st, 3rd, 5th). Do you start with low ♦ or the ♦T and how do you plan your play to make this?

Prefer 1♥ to REDBL. Opps most probably have an exit to 2♣ if you REDBL. This is clear to me. ... More intesting is question what to if bidding would have gone: 1♣-(DBL)-?? Do people prefer RDBL or 1♥ then?
-
Do you get in there?
kgr replied to CSGibson's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Suppose you accept the correction to 3♥...(I find that very reasonable). What about Easts DBL? Is it a valid argument to say that there was MI for East and without the MI he would not have DBLed and you would have to play 3♦? (About the MI: You can argue that there was no agreement and therefore no MI, but you knew that 2♦ over 1NT was for the Majors and as a consequence 3♦ over 2NT could also show the majors if you had no other agreements. If East knew all this then he might have passed?) -
I accept that 3C does not have to promise extra's (..Is 3C forcing?) and that 3H is not forcing. Now I wonder what to bid with following 2 hands: 1D-(1S)-2H-(p) 3C-(p)- You have: xx=AKQxxx=Qx=Kxx What do you bid? 4H, 3S followed by 4H? Here your Hearts are good enough to bid 4H, but what with: Ax=KJxxxx=Qx=Kxx

- I don't see any difference in giving up in the middle of a segment ot between segments. (only that it is less nice if a vugraph is running, but then how intersting is the vugraph at that stage). - Playing bad by purpose is against the law, but if Germany was a lot of IMPs behind then bidding wild or against the odds was probably the only way to still win. Maybe they discussed between them to give up before the segment started and then decided to try to gain IMPs by bidding anti field or even very wield. This didn"t work, they congratulated the opps and they gave up. In my opinion: nothing wrong with that.

Seems clearly non-forcing :) 1D-(1S)-2H-(p) 3C-(p)- You have: xx=AKQxxx=Qx=Kxx What do you bid? 4H, 3S followed by 4H? Here you Hearts are good enough to bid 4H, but what with: Ax=KJxxxx=Qx=Kxx

I took al blame on me for opening 2D..maybe I can blame partner after all :) If it starts: 2♦-2NT 3♠-4♣ 2♦=multi 2NT=asking 3♠=max with ♥ 4♣=control ....Now i don't stop short of 6.

1D-(1S)-2H-(p) 3C-(p)-3H Is 3H forcing (playing Sayc with a pick up)?
-
Ax vs QT9xx I thought it was best to play to the A and then play small to Q or T. But if you think a bit deeper then you'll see that it matters if you play the Q ot the T. (I think this is interesting for beginners because it should be possible to find this at the table if you saw something like this before).

[hv=d=s&v=n&n=saxxxhaxxxdkqxckq&s=sxhqtxxxxdaxxcaxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 2D!-4C! 4D!-4H 2D=multi 4C=bid your M in transfer 4D=transfer H making +3 when ♥K was singleton. ...I don't think it is possible to reach 6H after opening weak. (The other table opened 1H and reached 6H)
-
[hv=d=s&v=n&s=sxhqtxxxxdaxxcaxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] What do you open? (open weak goes via 2D multi).
-
What is so bad with 2NT? - Is the H-suit not good enough (but then 1H would also be not good)? - Does the hand not fit in your point range for 2NT? ...
-
1S-2H 4C Italians had this bidding and according to vugraph presenter 4C showed a void. I asked how do splinter with a singleton and he responded that they can't show that. That was surprising to me because I would think that singleton happens much more often then void. (...maybe it is easier for them to show the void later.?)

Partner had 4=3=2=4 and didn't want to DBL with his 2c♥. I couldn't resist to DBL (you never know partner passes this or 3NT makes). .. 1NT-(2C!)-P-(2D) P-(p)-DBL-(p) 2S-(p)-2NT-All pass The dont overcaller did lead a small Club from AKxxx and my partner failed to play the Q and 2NT was -1. (I don't know his exact cards but it has 1st trick that was important)
-
Where are you going with that gun in your hand?
kgr replied to plaur's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Not sure if this is a good agreement here. If DBL of 3C is passed to your partner how will he know if he has to pass or not - If you have paenalty against 3C or 3S? -
[hv=d=n&v=n&s=sqxxhjxxdktxxcq9x]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1NT-(2C!)-Pas-(2D!) P-(P)-?? 2C=dont, C and another 2D=don't like Clubs You play take out doubles and lebensohl with your partner. Do you agree with initial pass? Do you pass again (should DBL still be takeout?)
