If RHO has ♠K then we need to have LHO to have both other kings. If LHO has ♣Kx then we can play small ♣ to Q and ♣A. If LHO has ♣Kxx we can play ♣T and use ♠Q for ♦ finesse. If LHO has ♣Kxxx then we need to do something more, we will need that LHO also has ♦J: Play ♠7 (squeeze LHO later to make ♠5 another entry) from dummy. Play ♦Q and ♦A and ♥AKQJ ending with: [hv=n=sj4hjdcaqj6&w=s98hdkck987&e=shdc&s=sq5hdtct42]399|300|[/hv] If LHO discards a ♠ then you have the entries by taking over ♠J with the Q (LHO will be squeezed again when crossing back after the ♣ finessse). If LHO discards a ♣ we can play ♣T If LHO discard ♦K then we also take over ♠J with the Q. LHO will be squeezed again when we play ♦T.

a) do you really think W would lead vs 7 NT 10 form K109xx? if club king is doubleton, it is still only 12 tricks 2spades+4hearts+2diamonds+4clubs As explained by maggie we get the 13th trick via a squeeze.
-
I would play LHO for: Kxxxx ?? KJ?? Kx Take ♠Q and small ♣ to Q and the A.

Yes,, that is in fact the question. Is it best to DBL first with 4-4 M or better bid 2H immediatly. I bid 3H with the given hand, but I think you're right (posting this will help me remember later <_< )
-
I think this is interesting if you want to learn: http://www.rpbridge.net/rppl.htm (I think I'm advanced+ but this is also interesting for me. ...If anyone has similar links)

(1C)-DBL-(1S)-DBL! (2C)-Pass-(Pass)-2H DBL on 1S showed S Should 2H show extra's or can it be bid with 4-4 M and not a lot extra (..to play?) Do you bid more with: [hv=d=e&s=sqjxhaqxxdkqxxcxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] (I not sure about this hand - my memory <_< - but I had 3=4=4=2 with 14 HCP)
-
..just wonder: Who made these changes to GIB? Are they made by BBO team or by 'GIB team'. And is GIB still a commercial product? Or is it only used as part of BBO?
-
I think you made a grave error by not bidding 5D (at a minimum). Without knowing your hand, it's impossible to say whether you had a better bid than a simple raise to 5D. I guess that both hands were (reconstructed with knowledge that 7D makes, one hand was 7-4 with 13 HCP and the other had 8 HCP): AQxx=v=AKTxxxx=xx KJx=xxxx=xxx=Ax ...Actually it was not IMP's but MP's. Because my partner first limited his hand with 2S, I was a bit surprised by his 4D bid and I passed it because I could not imagine 5D making. Probably 2S is an underbid, but still I should not have passed 4D with my hand even at MP's (Probability that 4D is the good contract is low anyway).
-
My partner did bid 2♠ and the bidding conitnued: 1♦-(2♣)-DBL-(REDBL) 2♠-(3♣)-Pass-(Pass) 4♦-All pass - - 4♦ made +3. I had 3=4=4=2 with 8 HCP. (Probably partners ♠'s were better and his ♦'s less solid. Don't see how he could make 7 otherwise).
-
Thanks Marlowe. What bdding will lead to a partial? 3S is forcing and partner will not support with 3 card? 1D-(2C)-DBL-(pass) 3S-(Pas)-? BTW: partner will support S with 4S or 4C?
-
I play that 1st DBL after opps bid game is desire to bid further (independent of forcing pass or not). I DBL here to invite further bidding. (I would pass with normal methods).
-
I also like 3♦, but aren't you afraid that you have never find a ♠ fit anymore if you have one. What about 3♠ iso 3♦? (How do you rate 3♦, 2♠, 3♠?)

Defence to a strong club
kgr replied to Wackojack's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I play same defense against strong club as against strong NT and that is Multi Landy. (not sure if it makes a lot of sense - If it is a good defense against strong club - , but it is easy to remember) -
Makes sense. ...But because partner is a passed hand we can bid a lot of intermediates as weak because game will be very unlikely on a lot of these hands. Maybe that makes weak a better agreement with a passed partner?
-
We play: 1♥-(2♣) : 2♣=5+c♣ and 4c♠ 1♥-(3♣) : 6c♣ and intermediate strength (10-16) Because we don't have a natural 2♣ overcall we need the jump to 3♣ to be intermediate and not weak. The above is an example as we also have other 2 suit overcalls. Given the above: (Pass)-1♥-(3♣): Would you still play 3♣ intermediate here or do you think it is more usefull to have it preemptive if partner passed and have not bid for a good hand with only ♣.

[hv=d=s&v=n&s=skxxxhdakqjxxxcxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP 1D-(2C)-DBL-(RDBL) ???[/hv] I don't know Souths exact hand, but he had a good 7 card ♦, a 4 card ♠, 2 ♣'s and 13 HCP. What do you bid with Souths hand after the given bidding? (You play 5-cards M and 4 card ♦ and the DBL is negative. Opps have no agreement about REDBL).
-
You'll have to take the negatives of the system. If you overcall with a 4-card then often this will give your partner the good lead. But if the overcall can be a 4 or a 5 card then your partner will over- or under-compete (If he assumes either a 4 or a 5-card). ..If your overcall can possibly be a 4-card then 3S is too much. Because I'm an LOTT believer, I prefer to have a 5-card. (I would open 3C only in 3th seat).
-
DBL or 5H....I will probably bid 5H, but I'm not confident that this is best. (DBL would be takeout, but will often be passed at this level)
-
...only 1 re-entry to dummy if you let ♥9 win the first trick
-
In my system I have 3♣ being either: - Preempt ♦ - GF with both majors - GF with both minors - GF with ♥ ...Would you consider both hands GF and open them 3♣ in this system? (PS: If 5♦ or 5♣ goes down on the second hand, what is your net result then of not opening strong with these hands?)
-
I expect partner to have ♥KQJx. I don't see a reason why he should lead ♥K with less, eg ♥KQxx or ♥KQxxx. Probably he also does not have anything outside ♥ and it is best that ♥'s are continued. I encourage with ♥2.
-
I would have bid 4♥ iso of 3♦. After having bid 3♦ I now pass 3♥.
-
I would open 2♠. I passed then after the given bidding I would balance with 2♠. After a lot of thinking I would probably open 2♠ (the thinking was to open 3♠)

If we discard a ♠ and dummy discards a ♥ then we come to the end position shown by H_KARLUK above. Now declarer plays the last trump, we discard a ♥ and dummy and East discard a ♣.[hv=n=shj7dck7&w=shtdca52&e=sh85dcjt&s=sh2dcq86]399|300|[/hv] Declarer now plays small ♣ to the K and ♥J to remove Wests exit card, followed by a ♣ to his Q, making the last trick with ♣8. If West plays ♣A when we play a ♣ to the K then ♣K needs to be unblocked in dummy, making ♣Q8 in declarers hand high. A ruffing finesse will never give 12 tricks if we keep a good ♠ and ♣A while declarer has only 1 trump left.
