  1. Thanks all for the answers. On this hand it didn't matter much. I did bid ans partner continued with RKC and 2 aces were missing. (one Ace and Heart K). Hoping that I can create some more detailed rules, I opened an other post. - Also because of the support for 4♦ here. I thought it should/was best to show extra's. - There was a remark that partners pass is showing extras because he can bid 4H with a minimum hand. Bidding 4H does probably not say enything about controls in ♣, but simply says that you are minimum. Can it have D-control?
  2. The answers in topic http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=30492&hl= kind of suprised me. I thought that 4D would show extra's. Do you have rules about control bids? When they show extra's or when they are obligatory? Any reference to a good internet site? Thanks, Koen
  3. ...concensus for all answers. => I'll agree with my partner to play the same after (1NT)-DBL-(2X) as after 1NT-(2X).
  4. I have a system document in MS-Word and a new partner who plays a big part of this, but we will start working on the system document to create an updated one. We play together once a week but can work on the system in between. the solution I prefer is a system that does all or part of: - support MS Word 2000 (this is the version I have on my company PC). I tried MS Workspace but I can't edit the doc I have uploaded. I think it is caused by the MS Word version I use. - Support Docs larger then 1Mb (Google Docs only works for docs smaller then 500Kb). - Document available to 2 or more persons on the internet. - Ideally if one of the persons changes the doc then this is clearly indicated to other person and other person can approve, reject or comment on the changes. .....Any suggestioons? Thanks, Koen
  5. ..is it possible that DBL is not penalty here. I play mostly take out DBLs and I think partner would take DBL here as 2.5♠
  6. I wonder what 2NT was. did it show 11 HCP or was it forcing? Still if 2NT was non-forcing then passing 4♦ looks like a MP gamble to me.
  7. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=skjxhqtxxdaqxxxcx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] 1♥-4♣!-(DBL) Pass-?? 4♣=4+card ♥, singleton ♣ (no void), 12-14 HCP Pass by partner denies 2nd control in ♣ (..Not sure if 2nd control is useful after splinter) Do you bid 4♦ or 4♥ now. Is your 5th ♦ enough extra to bid 4♦?
  8. LHO opens strong 1NT and partner DBLs for penalty (mostly also a strong 1NT). RHO bids a non-forcing 2 bid. e.g: (1NT)-DBL-(2S)-? Do you think it is best to play same system as after 1NT-(2x) (Lebensohl/Rubensohl) or do you think natural is better here? Also if you play DBL is info after 1NT-(2x), do you also play info DBL here?
  9. [hv=d=s&v=n&s=sakjxxxhjxxxdxxcx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] MP's. You passed in 1st hand (..would you?) and bidding goes: Pass-(Pass)-1♦-(4♥) ?? You play that DBL is info (at this level your partner will of course pass sooner then at lower level).
  10. If you play obvious shift at trick 1, then is the obvious shift: 1. asking to play the obvious shift suit. or 2. indicating you have A or K (or Q behind Axx) in the obvious shift suit. I play method 2. If I have A or K in the obvious shift and a void in the non-obvious shift and wanting a ruff there then I still have to signal the obvious shift. (Is it obvious switch or obvious shift?)
  11. For deal 1 I wondered if S is really better then H and I did setup the deal profile (this hand and opps bidding 1NT-3NT) in Jack and did run analyse of situation on the lead: all nv: H3: -385.5 S3: -391.3 S8: -399.7 H5: -405.5 C3: -410;3 HT: -410.8 D2: -415.4 Seems like in 1000 deals double dummy a small heart lead is slightly better then a small Spade. ...I thought that this analysis was done double dummy on a sample of 1000 deals. But if the x's in Hearts are 5 and 6 then H5 lead is better then H6. So it seems like this analysis is not completely double dummy. Nv against v: H5: -564.8 S3: -565.5 ST: -573.3 H6: -584.8

    HESO

Here is the description from the system: Purpose: Heso leads intend to clarify the lead of the King. We also give count when leading an honour. Rules: a. Basic rules With a honour sequence lead: (H)ighest from (E)ven length (S)econd highest from (O)dd length. HESO These rules are also valid for internal sequences i.e.: K10952 lead the 9, AJ1092 lead the 10 Remark: We still lead high-low of a doubleton. This could be an honour. b. Extra rules - HESO is only valid at the lead. Afterwards we play the highest of a sequence or an internal sequence. - This doesn’t apply if we lead to partner’s suit. Then we lead the highest of a sequence or 3rd-5th. - HESO does apply if we lead from our own suit, even if partner supported that suit. - HESO does apply if we both showed length (4+) - With 3 of the 4 top honors (AKQ or KQJ) we can lead the lowest to receive a signal on the lowest missing honor. If we lead the middle one partner will always discourage. After the lowest we play the highest to clarify the situation. Leading the middle one has the advantage that we get some information concerning the Obvious Switch. - From two tight honors we lead the highest i.e.: Q from QJ tight and K from KQ tight - in second hand we play the highest for at least 3 honors. ....I'll try to have a talk with the system designer. I wonder if he got this from an existing lead convention.

    HESO

Anybody know HESO leads? What are advantages of HESO leads and when do they apply? HESO=lead Highest from Even length and Second from Odd length. (I saw this somewhere in a system description, but don't see the advantage of this. E.g you have to lead J from QJxxx?)
  14. 2♥ for me. (With my regular partner I play 1♠ is forcing and 2♠ is splinter with 12-14 or 18-19. Then 2♠ of course).
  15. 2NT shows 18-19. If 4NT is quantitative then you pass with 18 and bid on with 19?
  16. I wonder what most experts play. I would guess 4th best at NT and 3rd/5th in suit contracts? ...It is probably best to play the same method with your regular partner, simply to get corresponding answers on questions like above.

    Invite?

    [hv=d=s&v=b&n=sxxxxhxxdakxxcjxx&s=skjxhakt9xxdxcqtx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Bidding was: 1♥-1♠-(2♦) DBL-2♥ 3♥-3NT 4♥ (DBL was support). Luckily West didn't DBL with ♥QJxx
  18. [hv=d=s&v=b&s=skjxhakt9xxdxcqtx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1♥-1♠-(2♦) DBL-2♥ ? (DBL was support DBL and didn't show extra's).
  19. Unexptedly we played champion in our (..not too high) range. We play a rather special system (like 1NT overcall is not 15-17, but for the minors; and a lot of transfer bids & two-suited overcalls). But my feeling is that Obvious switch is the part of our system that was most usefull (beside the excellent advice I received on these forums  ). Obvious switch: On your partners opening lead in a suit you don't signal if you like that suit or not, but a low card says that you like the obvious switch suit (you have a set of pre-arranged rules that determines the obvious switch). If you couldn't signal on the opening lead (e.g you had to play high) then you play lavinthal on the next trick(s) to signal the suit you want.
  20. I did bid 1♠ ans auction continued: 1♥-(P)-1♠-(2♦) P-(5♦)-5♥-(6♦) DBL-All Pass 6♦x made and I'm know convinced that my 1♠ bid was an error. But I still wonder if 4♥ or 4♠ will generally play best.
  21. [hv=d=n&v=n&s=skqt9xxxhtxxxdctx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1♥-(P)-?? You play 5c Majors. What do you bid now and what is your plan? You can bid 1♠ forcing, 2 or 4♠ weak, 3 or 4♥ weak (and if you want: also 3♣ is fit with 6-9 pts )
  22. When bidding 4NT south already knows: - North has no ♣A or ♣K (he denied ♣ control) - North has no ♦A or ♦K (he denied ♦ control) Then why is 4NT that bad and what is the better bid?
  23. [hv=d=n&n=sakqtxhxxdqjxcxxx&s=sjxhaqjtxxxdatxxc]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1♠-(2♣)-2♥ -(3♣) P- (P) -3♦ -(P) 3♥-(P) -4♣ -(DBL) P- (P) -REDBL-(P) 4♥-(P) -4NT -(P) 5♣-(P) -5♥ -All Pass 2♥=forcing 3♦=I took that partner would take is as forcing, because uncontested we play all new suit as forcing (would 3♦ be forcing in a SA?) 3♥=2♥ always promisses a 5 card in SA? Anyway, We play support DBL so partner denied a 3 card ♥. 4♣=1st or 2nd control Pass over DBL denied control; REDBL showed 1st control 5♣=41 of 5 5♥: We miss one A and partner denied a ♦ control (1st or 2nd). We don't play LTTC. I think we can only reach 6♥ if North bids 4♦ iso 4♥. Do you give Q as control in partners 2nd suit (It would have been useful here - also because Q is supported by the J - but is it generally better to do it)? In the given bidding: Can North bid 6♥ after South stopped in 5? Thanks for reading this!
