I was told that there are also players who would rather overcall after RHO opens 1♠ with ♠Qx then with ♠x because they hope that their overcall will make you finesse through their partner?
-
In another topic it was explained that vs experts: AKQ3 456 If you play AKQ than opp who showed the 2 will more likely have the 4-card. But I often play against less experts, who will always play these card from low to high and not random. Is there a similar conclusion then or are both opps equally likely to hold the 4th card?

Is it impossible that declarer had: KQx=Axx=Kxx=AJ9x Maybe declarer would not play Spade then and maybe Zia would not play Spade A, but IMO it is incorrect to say that an intermediate should easily find this play...Ok, mat it was never said 'easily', but IMO not a lot of intermediates will find the correct play (and knowing all these inferences). Or Fred has a different understanding of what an intermediate is. Edit1: I was told that Fred took some time to think before playing ♣s. Note that most intermediates will never take time to think before playing a card. The simply don't have the experience to have a enough to think to take time. Edit2: I found this a very instructive hand! (also seeing that a WC player failed on it) -

Meckwell bid slam off two aces... I think 46 is more surprising. This defensive problem is very easy and I would be surprised if any decent player got it wrong at the table so it was definitely "simple" mistake. It would be interesting for beginners/intermediates (..and for me :) ) if somebody could explain what is so easy and clear in the defense on board 46. For me looking at the Clubs, I would think that I have a potential entry and I would try to develop ♥'s. ...At the moment that a ♣ switch is necessary, what should be the step by step thought process to make it clear? -
No ...So the question should rather be?: Does it need an alert. But probably it is difficult to alert anything for which partners don't have an agreement, but happen to find it logic to understand it the same way.

(1♦)-1♠-(Pass)-Pass (DBL)-Pass-(1NT)-All pass Suppose you have a reasonable Heart suit and lead a ♥ and 1NT makes, it would be down 1 on a ♠ lead. After the hand is played RHO says that he first passed and then did bid 1NT to show that he had no stopper. LHO says 'off-course'. They didn't have this explicit agreement, but both understood it this way. You thought that RHO had ♠KJT.. and nothing more. How do you rule, against weak opps - against experts?

Is there any difference in rules for wrong bids behind screens. This is what happened at same side of the screen: (1D)-1S I first had not noticed the 1D bid, but before the tray was moved, I saw it and told my RHO. I asked him if I could change my bid and he allowed it. But what if he said we will ask the TD, would he have allowed it? Any difference if it would have started with an insufficient bid, like: (1NT)-1S

Thanks all. ..Arriving here my first DBL didn't feel ok...so I Dbled a 2nd time  I was lucky that partner had a 3c♦ and 2♦! did go -2.

[hv=d=n&v=n&s=skxxxhqxdqxxcqtxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1♥-(1NT!)-DBL-(2♦) Pass-(Pass)-?? 1NT=both minors, can be 4-4 is some points. DBL=penalty oriented for one of the minors What do you bid (Pass is probably not allowed?) What is the max nbr of ♦'s partner can have, Should my 1st DBL promise at least eg 3c in both suits or is one good suit, and hoping partner has the other, enough? (I don't remember the exact hand I had, but didn't feel very comfortable with 9 pts and 3c♦)

Good question; I think still GF?
-
Eg ♥ trump: ...5♣-5♦ 5♠ : Can't this be asking for ♥Q to play 7?
-
If you play RKC 41-30, how do you then play Exclusion? - also 41-30 - 30-41 - 0-1-2 Is one over one mostly asking for trump Q also?
-
That is probably right..if partner does not take if for RKC for ♠ because I have no other forcing way to raise ♠; Or is it preferred to drop RKC and use 4NT for other means in these competitive auctions?
-
Thanks! RHO had AKx=AQxxxxxx=Qx=v Both plays are ok, as long as you don't play like I did (take ♦ finesse)

[hv=n=skqxxx&w=s&e=s&s=sj9]399|300|You need 4 Tricks[/hv] Small to J and small to K compared to small to 9: 1) Small to 9 better if: xx-ATxx 9,69 Ax-Txxx 6,46 Axxx-Tx 6,46 22,61 2) Small to J better if: Tx-Axxx 6,46 Txx-Axx 10,66 ATx-xxx 7,11 24,23 => small to J....but suitplay says small to 9 ...what am I missing?

Anyone knows if this will be solved? Will this support MS-Word docs?

I borrowed the book "Dormer on Deduction" from a friend and I really liked it. This is a book that will improve my bridge play. I will buy it so that I can read it every year. ...What other books would you compare with this one (level of content and play-defense book)? => What other books should I buy to improve my bridge play?

[hv=d=w&v=n&s=sthdkxxxxcakjtxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] (p)-1♠-(DBL)-1NT=transfer ♣ (p)-2♠-(4♥)-5♣ (5♥)-....pass-(p)-5NT (p)-6♣-all pass 1NT=transfer ♣ 2♠=2 weak bids possible: 2♣ and 2♠, probably 6c♠ and no 4♣'s What do you think of my bidding here? - 5NT was meant as: pick a slam partner. - non-forcing 5♣ followed by 5NT. Is 5♣ wrong or is 5NT wrong OR are they both ok because situation changed enough by the 5♥ bid? - partners pass after 5♥ was slow...Is 5NT still ok then?...(I think that 5NT is more ethic then DBL then. We have no real agreements about forcing pass, but it looks like we will never pass this out) [hv=d=w&v=n&n=sqj9xxxhjdaj8xcqx&s=sthdkxxxxcakjtxxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You are in 6♣. Lead is a small ♥, RHO playing the ♥Q and you ruff. How do you continue? RHO will not follow ♣'s if you play them. - ruffing finesse in ♠? - finesse ♦ - play ♦ from top Or will you combine ♠ and ♦ play?
-
Thank you (I passed and partner said that pass was impossible). ...If you DBL and partner bids 2♣, what do you bid then? (or was the DBL 100% penalty?)
-
Thanks all for the answers. (I think that 5♠ and 5♣ should go down. in the bidding practice example bidding they passed and responder DBL'ed).

[hv=d=e&v=n&s=sxxxhkxxdakxxxcxx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] During a MP's Club tournement you start with passing partners 1NT rebid (maybe a slight underbid). (p)-p-(p)-1♣ (p)-1♠!-(p)-1NT (p)-p-(2♥)-p (p)-??? 1♠=T-Walsh, ♦ or Transfer to NT (if you think NT is better played in partners hand); partner only bids 2♦ with reverse force. Let you play the opps 2♥ at MP's? Is DBL take-out, pentaly, values..? (would you have invited after 1NT from partner?) (would you choice be diff at IMP's?)

You are Vulner vs Not (This question was triggered from bidding pracitce of R.Pavlicek site and vulnerability was not mentioned in result doc. I went back to West hand doc to check the vuln for you). PS: These bidding practices are a fun way to improve your bidding understandings with your partner. We do it via mail, whenever we have time to have a look at it. Actually partner did bid 3♦=GF with ♠ ; 3♠ would have been GF with ♦. (I have no idea why we do this. It comes from a system we took from somebody else...so if anyone can give the advantage of it then that would be useful B) )

1♥-(3♣)-3♠-(5♣) 5♠?? Does 5♠ here promise extra's or can it be bid with a minimal hand? What do you bid with? 5♠, pass, DBL?: [hv=d=s&s=saxxxhakj9xdxxcxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]

I was kind of encouraged by your previous post to try to be ironic. :) ..
