  1. We play OS in every situation (Also when trump is lead, or with a singleton in dummy). The next signal(s) when declarer leads are Lavinthal until we told enough. (When it probably costs a trick if partner continues the opening suit and we don't have the OS suit then we can lie about the OS).

    Malmö - Sweden

Thanks! Partävling med hcp. Partnergaranti: Every Tuesday and Wednesday I can go there and they will make sure that I get a partner? What is meant with hcp?
  3. You had the agreement that you play strong 2M, but changed this agreement to weak 2M. You forgot to change your CC and you opened a weak 2M, but partner explained this as a strong 2M. I think it is clear that your agreement is weak 2M and both the CC and the explanation is wrong?
  4. I will have to spend some time in Malmö - Sweden over the coming months. Are there any bridge clubs in Malmö? Is there something like a partner desk, website, price...? thanks, Koen
  5. We play that if partner bids a suited hand and that is DBLed (eg: (1C)-2NT-DBL ) then REDBL is some preference for the highest suit. (bidding the highest suit is clear preference). As an extension it is a good idea to have REDBL showing hearts preference.
  6. If you have Both majors, could you not have started with 4♣ iso 3♥? general rules overrule exceptions, it avoids critcal damage if you forget. So if he cannot be 55 he will be 64, and if he isn't at least you ain't play something ridicoulous. I agree, it is very good to have a general rule. In this case it is for you?: No transfer in competitive bidding, except if explicitly agreed. (e.g first 3♥ is transfer because agreed to play Rubensohl). Remark: This 4♥ bid was done, without explicit agreement, by another pair at the club yesterday. It was meant as retransfer but passed by partner
  7. If you have Both majors, could you not have started with 4♣ iso 3♥?
  8. I would either bid 3♠ or 4♣. Bidding 4♠ would feel wrong. If forcing to game then why not showing your shortness on the way? ...I'm not saying that it IS wrong, maybe 4♣ is too slam invitational and 4♠ is better.
  9. ...I plan to edit this 1st post with additional sequences from other post or sequences you add below. ... Some easy bidding sequences can be a surprise because you didn't agree it with your partner: 1) (3X)-Pass-(Pass)-3NT (Pass)-?? What do you play here? 2) 1NT-(2♣-nat)-3♥-Rubenshohl transfer-(Pass) 3NT-(Pass)-4♥ 4♥=retransfer ♠ or ♥? 3) 1♠-(Pass)-4♥? 4♥ to play? 4) (1X)-DBL-(REDBL)-Pass? No preference or to play? 5) Jumps after opps opened a weak 2 or multi 2: 5a) (2♥)-? Difference between 4♣/4♦ and 4♥? 5b) (2♦ multi)-? what is 4♣/4♦? 5c) (2♦ multi)-pass-(2♥)-? What is 4♣/4♦? 6) Opps opened a multi 2♦: 6a) (2♦ multi)-2♠-(pass)-3♥/4♥ Natural ♥ or not? 6b) (2♦ multi)-2♥-(pass)-2♠/3♠/4♠ Natural ♠ or not? Edited: 21-Apr-10: added 3 and 4 22-Apr-10: added 5 24-Apr-10: added 6
  10. Playing Rubensohl: Do you have an agreement/understanding about this one? 1NT-(2♣ Nat)-3♥!-(Pass) 3NT-(pass)-4♥? 3♥=Rubensohl; Transfer ♠, limit+ 3NT=No 3c♠, stop in ♣ and not minimal. What is 4♥: retransfer ♠ or ♥?
  11. 5♦ voidwood for ♥, or isn't it voidwood?
  12. I was playing against Jack. Not really thinking long about this I played the K and T. ..I thought this was interesting combination for beginner/intermediate. Thanks for the support :)
  13. I was in 6♥ with following ♥ suit: KT - A9xxx No other losers outside ♥'s. How do you play this for 4 tricks? Intuitively I played different then best line.
  14. I really didn't like this book. I bought it and had a hard time reading through it. (not that it was that difficult, but I really didn't like the way it was written). I would never buy it again.
  15. 2H = ? 2S = ? ( I assume extra length and no interest in Cl ) 2NT = ? ( I assume natural and no interest in Cl ) 3C = ? ( I assume 4+ Cl ) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - But we do know now that Opener's 3H!-jump splinter = 5+cd Sp AND 4+ cds Cl. [ Likewise, I assume that a 3D!-jump would be a splinter as well] . So, I have another suggestion ( invention) for Responder after the 3H! splinter.3S would agree Sp ( as I stated earlier ). 3NT = suggestion to play ( as you suggested in your reply ) . And any bid 4C and higher would be a TURBO type RKC " showing" bid agreeing Clubs: 4C! = 0 or 3 4D! = 1 or 4 4H! = 2 - cQ 4NT! = 2 + cQ ( can't use 4S as it would be to play ) . Then Opener could : a) ask for the Cl Q ( next step afer 4C! or 4D! ) or b ) specific K-ask ( 2nd step ) or c) sign-off in 5C ( apparently off 2 key cards ) or possibly try to sign-off in 4S. see answers above
  16. The 3♥ guarantees 5+c♠, 1c♥, 4+c♣ Strange that you know this without knowing the rest of our system. Yes, MF should be GF (I'll edit this in OP) Our agreement is that 4m is minorwood if the trumpsuit was clearly agreed before the 4m bid. For the opener - bidding 3♥ - it was not yet clear that his partner has Clubs; and therefor 4C sets the trumpsuit and is not RKC....that is in fact the part that I don't like. You have some point with 3NT, but 3NT could also be to play. Eg: good 4cH with good stops. Certainly at MP's it can not be used to set ♣ as trumps?
  17. sorry, 3♥ is splinter with 4c♣. The 3♥ bidder has ♠ and ♣, but it is not yet clear what is trump because the 2♣ is either 3c♠ or ♣s. The splinter with 3♥ simply says that he has a singleton, 15+pts and a fit for whatever partner has.
  18. We now use that 4m is RKC (minorwood) when the minors has been agreed before; set as trumps before. But this is still giving problems Eg: 1S-2C 3H-4C 2C=GF with Clubs OR limit+ with 3cS 3H=15-19 Splinter 4C=RKC??? => My partner thought this was RKC, but for me Clubs what not yet set as trumps before. Therefor 4C was setting trumps for me. Conclusion: We need something easier, but still works ok. Note: Most of the time we don't want to play 4m. Therefor it would be ok to use 4m always as RKC, but maybe that is not good. Eg: if you want to set the minor as trumps, but still need other info then RKC from partner. On rgb I found: The rule I use, learned from Eddie Kantar's book on RKC is: 1. If a minor suit is bid and raised at the 2- or 3-levels, then a raise to 4m is RKC. 2. If not, then 4m is a natural call and the cheapest *new suit* above 4m is RKC. ....What do you think is best for us?
  19. Diamonds are too weak to reopen with 4♦, 4♣ is a much better bid Is 4♣ not more a 0454?
  20. [hv=d=w&v=b&w=sqj7hkda9854caqt4&e=sathaqjt964dkq63c]266|100|[/hv] 1♦-2♦ (2♦=one suited major, weak or closed major) 2♥-3♥ (3♥=closed major with max 1 honor at the side=>not correct system bid and impossible for West because he has ♥K) 3NT-4♦ 4♥-6♦ All Pass (Maybe West should trust East and bid 6♥??) This should have gone?: 1♦-1♥ 2♣-2♠ (2♣ forcing, 2♠ 4th suit GF) 2NT- 3♥ (2NT extras) 3NT-4♦ ....How to continue to 7♥?? 4♥-4♠ 5♣-5♦ 7♥
  21. [hv=d=e&v=n&w=skq6hj86dkcj87643&e=shakt4dat6432cakt]266|100|[/hv] scoring mix of IMP's and MP's. 1♦-1NT (West can bid 3♣ 6-card invite, 2♣ would have been GF) 2♥-3NT (West maybe better bids 3♣, but preferred 3NT with misfit) 4♦-4♥ (West tried to play in ♥?? but East took this as a cue) 6♦-All Pass
  22. Thanks all for the answers leading to the conclusion for me: 1st: you don't play in a 4/3 when slam interest. So that is control 2nd: (less clear); ♥xx or ♥H; proposal to play.
  23. Both are MP's (it could matter because ♥ pay better, but it shouldn't change the meaning of the bid). 1♦-1NT 2♥-3NT 4♦-4♥ 3NT: to play, 2NT would have been Lebensohl, 3x forcing 4♦: forcing 4♥: control for ♦ or preference for ♥ (eg 3c♥)? (4NT iso 4♥ would have been to play) ....why? 1♦-1♥ 2♣-2♠ 2NT-3♥ 3NT-4♦ 4♥ 2♣: real but forcing 2♠: 4th suit GF 2NT: ♠-stop, no 3c♥, better then 3NT 3NT: prefer 3NT over 4♥ opposite a 6c♥ 4♦: natural and slam interest (6+♥, 3+♦) 4♥: control for ♦ or preference for ♥ (eg small doubleton; or honour singleton)? ....why?
  24. FYI: 2D!-2NT! ?? 2♦=Multi 2NT=asking => With weak Hearts: - 3♣=♥; not max - 3♠=♥; max = = = = After: 2♦-2NT 3♣-3♦ (3♦=asking) => 3♥=minimal 3NT=medium In first hand NV I would handle the example hand as on the limit of minimal and medium
