Take Advantage of the Rules!!
kgr replied to kfay's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I will not impose a penalty on beginners (if possible), but I will always do otherwise. The opps will also do it if I lead out of turn, revoke,... It simply feels too bad if I let go a penalty card and the next hand the opps impose a stupid penalty for eg a revoke. ...Also: if you let go a penalty after I did lead out of turn and the next hand you revoke, but it is not clear if you gained a trick by revoking (eg probably not, but not impossible)...should I call the TD? Isn't it easier to call the TD and let him decide? BTW: Most mistakes where I play are ethical. eg asking about 1C opening when having good clubs, bidding with border line hands when partner tanked,... I don't call TD for this because often the opps don't understand what is wrong. -
1D-(p)-1H-(3S) P-(4S)-?? What is the difference between DBL and 4NT? DBL is a singleton and 4NT a void (or is 4NT more specific?)
-
I misread the auction as: (1♣)-DBL-(1♠)-Pass (2♣)-DBL-(Pass)-?? And voted 2♦... -Would you agree with 1st pass or is this enough to DBL?
-
1♣-(2♥)-3♣!-(pass) 3♦-all pass 3♣= ♦s invitational or more. Same for me. After 1m-(2M)-?? we play Rubensohl
-
I play this..and DBL=4c♥ and a minor
-
On Free's blog you'll find a link to a structure after 1NT that gives you the same advantage... and more: http://freebridge.blogspot.com/2006/11/heeman-after-1nt.html
-
Also: (1♣)-Transfer And: (1♣)-DBL-(Pass)-2♣ (Pass)-Transfer
-
Our style is rather light overcalls, and DBL first with extra's (e.g 17+). I would Pass. As the Hog, 1NT is stronger for me and 1♠ is forcing. (We also play that 2♦ shows the majors, can be 4/4 with a good hand, the risk of passing here is low for us)
-
What do you mean? We use 'Rubensohl' after 1m-(2M)-??: 2NT=transfer Cl (at least invite); 3Cl=transfer D, ... But you probably mean?: 1m-(2M)-DBL-(Pass)-??: Opener goes via 2NT with a weak NT? In the example hand I pass. More difficult if you add ♥Q, then I probably DBL but close at IMPs (2♠ bidder can be pretty strong with a passed partner?)

But if it is a dedicated room then you have the choice. Everybody can take what he likes most.

What if besides the relaxed public club and the general public club a new rated public club would be made. (with some kind of rating, automatic or based on rating of opps partner). Very strict rules could be enforced for this club. eg. If you disconnect somebody, are impolite,... you are banned from the club for one month and your rating is reset to beginner. ...would it really harm BBO? Remark: I always play with unknown pick-up partners, which I consider as one of the main advantages of on-line bridge: being able to play whenever you want without prior arrangements. But it would be better if you had some idea of how good partner/opps are.

We play 1x-(p)-1NT-(p)-2♣ as artificial and inquiring to handle this.
-
1♣-(Pas)-T-Walsh 1♣-(DBL/1♦/1♥)-transfer starts with RDBL/DBL 1♦-(1♥)-DBL=transfer ♠ 1x-(Pas)-1y-(Pas)-1NT-(Pas)-2♦ till 2NT transfer 1x-(Pas)-1y-(Pas)-2NT-(Pas)-transfer (1x)-1Y-(pas)-Transfer advances 1M-(DBL/1♠)-transfers
-
I would bid 2♦. In my system I would DBL, because 2♦ shows 4c♥ and better ♦.
-
Seems like this new style of bidding gets us up too high. If I'm playing a standard system, I still like 1H and a 2H rebid because it limits my hand. Agree. If I open 1♥ then I rebid 2♥. I would rebid 2NT with that hand. 2♥ shows a weaker hand and if we play NT then it is best played from my hand Still 4th suit GF for me, but we play 2♣ forcing.
-
I play that 2♦ is a good 2♥ and 2♥ a bad one. That makes 2♥ easy.
-
[hv=d=s&s=sxhaxxxdaqjxxcxxx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] This was my hand and I wondered about the Spades. I did bid 4♣, but my partner did take it as slam interest.
-
You have agreed that 3♣ jump is intermediate (2♣ followed by 3♣ is GF). 1♦-(1♥)-3♣!-(Pass) 4♣?? 1♦-(Pass)-3♣!-(Pass) 4♣?? What is 4♣ here? preempt, invite or GF?
-
Thanks! In reality RHO passed 2♣X and I was allowed to play 2♦ making +1. Opps could make 3♣.
-
Yes, we had something like: [hv=n=skhkxdqjxxcjxxxxx&s=sjtxxxhxxdakxcakx]133|200|[/hv] both 4♠ and 5♣ would go -1
-
[hv=d=w&s=sxxhajxxdjxxxxxcx]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] (2♣!)-DBL!-(2♥!)-?? 2♣=weak with both majors or something strong DBL=interested to DBL for penalty in one of the majors 2♥=preference for ♥ Two questions: - Is this hand strong enough to DBL for penalty? - If strong enough: do you DBL? (My RHO did take the 2♥ bid out of the bidding box. His partner could not see what it was and that started me thinking the above. But RHO did put it back and passed, so I did bid 2♦).
-
Thanks for the explanation, but the above would have been enough B) The bidding explanation in the OP is ok, but I think the following should always be added for clarity: (1♠)-2♥-(4♠)-5♥ (Pass)-Pass-(5♠)-Pass (Pass)-??
-
Ok, 6♥ last round was some kind of joke then.
-
I would have started with 4♥. I'm very surprised that 2 posters would have started with 6♥.
-
MP's, All green. 1NT-(2D!)-2NT!-(3♥) Pass-(Pass)-4♣-(Pass) 4♠? Matchpoints!! (weak field) 1NT=15-17 but can contain singleton, 6c minor, 5c major, can be 14 pts 2♦= DONT (♦ and ♥or♠) 2NT=Rubensohl, transfer ♣ 3♥=I didn't ask, but probably this is tolerance for ♥ and ♠??? 4♣=Clubs. No idea if it is weak, strong...Probably not too strong because partner would have bid 5♣ then. What is 4♠ when playing MP's: - singleton ♣ and hoping to improve the contract? - Good clubs and giving a choice between 4♠/5♣? - Impossible bid, partner did bid 4♣ and can be very weak with long clubs. Why run from the best contract?
