I don't like to DBL with a void and a 7 card. And can I be much weaker when I bid 4♣ opposite a passed partner. ...Not sure that DBL is better, maybe
-
Thanks all for the answers!! (not sure if the above is best or if it is better to finesse Spades. If you play 3 ♣'s then LHO will ruff the 3th with ♠J. What are you doing with that? Well, I traded a heart loser for the spade Jack, which is really funky. What's the return? My inclination is to maintain expectation of basically balanced. Perhaps LHO started with AQJ in spades, in which case I cannot go wrong. Perhaps, however, he started with just two spades, presumably both honors. If so, I think restricted choice unless something suggests otherwise later. Hence, my inclination is to play LHO for stiff Ace remaining. The problem with that line, though, is that I cannot gain playing for that line, because the spade Queen will then be protected. So, I suppose I might as well play for the longer-odds Q-J tight and go for the smother. Sorry. RHO ruffed with the ♠J. You still discard the ♥? If you do that then RHO returns the ♥K. PS: You are confident that your line is better then the other line that was suggested (Immediate Spade finesse) or is it too difficult to really know which line is best?

The complete bidding: 1♣-(2♥)-Pass-(3♥) 4♣-(Pass)-4♦-(Pass) 4♥-(Pass)-5♦-AP I explained, behind screens, that 4♦ was a control but that I wasn't 100% sure. Partner did bid 5♦ and I couldn't imagine that she had a grand invite so I passed. ...Would you have taken 4♦ as natural?

[hv=d=s&v=n&n=s64ha952d95cakq65&s=skt9752ht3dkt3c98]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1♣-1♠ 1NT-2♠ AP Lead ♥7, 3th/5th best I you take the Ace then RHO plays the ♥4 (low enc). How do you continue? What is your thought process for this hand? - Play ♣ to discard a ♥ (Maybe person with 2c♣ will have to ruff high) - play ♦ to the King to try to ruff a ♦ - play trump ... This felt like a difficult hand to me. Is it?

[hv=d=s&v=n&s=sakjhdaxxckjtxxxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 1♣-(2♥)-Pass-(3♥) ??.. 1♣=2+ (open 5542) 2♥=weak; 3♥=preemptive - What do you call now? - I did bid 4♣ and partner did bid 4♦ over it. Is that natural or control for ♣? What do you bid now?
-
We have the strange agreement that 2♣ is forcing here (12-20). Because of that, Opener would probably choose to bid 1NT iso 2♣.
-
Or with the example hand? Partner knows that you don't have 4c♥ when you don't bid 2♥. And Partner can be f.i.: 2542 with a hand to weak to bid 2♥. If you bid 2♦ then he will pass....Or partner can have a minimal hand with 2533, and maybe also pass when you bid 2♦
-
Pass would show a desire to defend 2♣XX. I'm not sure what it is and don't know how my partner would take this Pass, ..do you? Isn't this similar to (1♠)-DBL-(RDBL)-Pass Where Pass shows no preference?
-
I also voted 2♦, but maybe Pass is a good option. That should show no preference and therefor a hand like this (with 4c♥ we would have preference)?
-
I would start with: 1♣-3♣ 3♣ is 6-9 with ♣'s for me. 1♣ only promises a 2c♣ for me, but even if it promises 3c♣ then 3♣ looks enough for me. And with the short Majors it is also more preemptive. Opener will now bid 3♦ to show a stop and showing a problem in one of the majors; and responder can splinter 4♠. Playing 41-30 opener can bid 4NT and responder shows 1 Ace with 5♣.

Thanks for the answer. I have a question about our vulnerability: The above is true if it appears to be a "save", but it is more profitable if we make when V. And do we "save" over their preempt?
-
To trigger some feedback, I'm trying to make my question more specific below. (4H) HHxx x HHxx HHxx => Is there a hand that will DBL at one Vulnerability/scoring, but act at another? Maybe: Axxx x Axxx Kxxx => DBL at MP's but Pass at IMP's?? (Probably vulnerability is not important for this one)?? (4H) HHxxxx x HHx HHx => Is there a hand that will bid 4S at one Vulnerability/scoring, but act at another? AQxxxx x AJx Qxx => IMP's:Bid 4S when opps are vulnerable, but pass otherwise?? => MP's: Always bid 4S??
-
Opps preempt you; eg: (4H) 1C-(4H) 1C-(3H) ... What Vulnerability you will bid/DBL most likely? Is this the same at MP's then at IMP's? Will you rather bid at MP's then at IMP's? These question comes from another post where it was said that if opps are Vulnerable then they have more distribution and we should rather Bid/DBL (...not even sure this is correct). Should our Vulnerability also make a difference?

But if Muiderberg with 5233 is not allowed; what is most likely?: - 5242 with ♥Qx - 5143 I would think the second one and it is better to only cash ♥A and finesse ♥ if LHO appears to have 3c♣?
-
My thought was to cash the ♥A. In the actual case LHO was 5=0=5=3. But if LHO follows to ♥A; - is it best to cash ♥K as well and play LHO for ♥Qx - or then play ♣ and if LHO follows to 3♣'s play him for 5=1=4=3 and finesse ♥'s (...or would you never risk that at IMP's in case he opened Muiderbarg with 5=2=3=3?)
-
I play I took the first trick with ♦A and continued with ♣A. What should you play next?
-
That is what I did when I didn't pay attention can't be much of a misplay at IMPS Not much :o but at the end every IMP can be important.

[hv=d=w&v=n&n=stxhtxxxdkxcqjt98&s=saxxxhakjdaxxxcax]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West Open 2♠ Muiderberg. Weak with 5c♠ and 4c minor. (2♠)-Pass-(Pass)-DBL (Pass)-3♣-(Pass)-3NT AP LHO leads a small ♦. How do you play? (I misplayed this because I was not paying enough attention)
-
[hv=d=e&v=n&n=saq74h952dt83c853&s=skt8hakq4daq954ca]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Opps don't bid: 1♦-1♠ 2♥-3♦ 4NT-5♣ 6♦-AP LHO leads ♣Q (RHO play ♣9 - udca) and you take ♣A. What is best?: - Cross twice in ♠ to take two finesses in ♦ and hope for ♥'s 4-4 - Play ♦A and cross in ♠ to play ♦ (run ♦8 is best I think?) and hope for 1 ♦ looser & ♠3-3 or ♥3-3 or 4c♥/4c♠ in same hand.

Another overcall question
kgr replied to mohitz's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
3D for me Most of the problems posted here on the forums that ask (1x)-?? will work better with the system that I play then with standard system. I don't say that most of the problems after (1x)-?? will work better with the system that I play then with standard system. f.i: http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=41707&hl= (1♣)-1♠ = 4c♠ and better ♦'s http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?sho...=0entry498352 (1♠)-2♦=4c♥ and better ♦'s http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?sho...=0entry498788 (1♣)-1♠ = 4c♠ and better ♦'s -
Was this an answer to my question in the post above it? If yes: A white preempt can be weaker, so more reason for us not to pass?
-
oh then I pass, sorry I'm really bad at reading the vulnerability on BBF threads for some reason heh. Justin, Could you explain this? I would think that: - If you can make 4S then it is more important to bid it when Vuln? - When opps are Non-Vuln, then it is more likely that RHO is very weak and therefor more likely that you can make 4S? - ..and when RHO can be very weak they LHO will not DBL you often?
