Enter the hand with the hand diagram and then manually add the '?' at the end of the bidding: hv=pc=n&w=st8hkj2dk863ckt76&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1sp3s(Pre-emptive)dp?]133|200[/hv]

I'm not sure if it is clear to play H9 with K95: ....K95 J76......AT2 ....Q843 H3-6-9-T and declarer ducks 2nd round H3-6-K-A and South ducks the 2nd round But better duck,if: ....K95 J76......AQ2 ....T843 Maybe the 9 is better anyway with K9x to help partner reading the situation.

EDITED: opening was 2H and not 2S!!![hv=pc=n&w=sakj5hj3daj4cat63&e=sqt2haq2dkq876cq2&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=2hdp3nppp]266|200[/hv] We missed 6NT. We play Lebensohl, so 2NT followed by 3NT by East would show 4cH and not extras. Who should have done more?: - West: bid 4NT quantitative after East's 3NT - East: bid quantitative (2NT followed by 4NT ; I think that a direct 4NT would be for the minors) - No-one: Preempts work

These are the hands and how the bidding did go wrong to end in a reasonable contract: [hv=pc=n&w=sa2hkq762d42ca532&e=sqha4dakq873ck874&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=2sdp2n(Lebensohl)p3dp3hp4cp4sp4np5hp6cp6dppp]266|200[/hv] - Should East start with DBL or with 3S? - West started with 2NT, planning to rebid 4H to show a slam try. Does he has enough for that or is a direct 4H better? - After East's 3D bid, West has a problem. Does 4H still show the slam-try or is it a max. weak hand (7-8 pts)? Probably max weak? How to show the good hand with 5cH now? - East corrected 3H to 4C. West then bid 4S: cue for for D - for East this was cue for C. Followed by 4NT RKC

- For us (2S)-DBL-2NT-3D shows a strong hand - (2S)-DBL-2NT-3C-? => 3S=GF with 4cH and no S-stopper; 3NT=GF with 4cH and S-stopper After (2S)-DBL-2NT-3D-? It is best that??: => 3S=GF with 4cH and no S-stopper; 3NT=GF with 4cH and S-stopper OR? => 3S=GF with 4cH; 3NT=weak with S-stopper (fi QJx=Qxx=xx=Jxxxx)?

The DBL'er had: Q=Ax=AKQ8xx=K87x Maybe he better bids 3S instead of DBL.
-
(2S)-DBL-(P)-2NT! (P)-3D-(P)-3H 2NT=Weak or GF with 4cH. 3D=Strong (should this be forcing?) Is 3H forcing or very weak with long H? The bidding continued without knowing of each other what happened: (2S)-DBL-(P)-2NT! (P)-3D-(P)-3H (P)-4C-(P)-4S (P)-4NT-(P)-5C (P)-5D-(P)-6D AP

It is actually undefined in our system: Options of overcaller: - 2NT = 18-20 Further bidding: cuebid asks stop for 3NT, 3C to play, 3M: 3cM and values (max). - Cue can be balanced 22-23 or GF onesuiter or strong support - New suit = natural, 16+ - New suit with jump = Acol Two type, but not GF - Cue and new suit = GF - 3C = 12-15, fit - Jump cue = splinter, extras, support - 4C = 4/5cC, 19-21 Maybe (In our system logic 2NT would then be minimal).

North thought that he supported ♣ with 4♥ (control with ♣-fit
-
I think that 2♦ is very strong, but not GF. Therefore 3♣ would be very weak and NF? 4♥ was intended as a cue, so I think North would bid the same. In fact, even if 4♥ is clearly cue for ♣ then 4♦ would be a better bid?
-
We ended in the wrong contract with following bidding: (1♦)-DBL-(P)-2♣ (P)-2♦-(P)-2♥ (P)-3♦-(P)-4♣ (P)-4♥-AP We agree until: - 2♣=No 4cM and weak - 2♦=very strong, not necessarily ♣-fit, not GF And questioned: - 2♥: Is this promising extras or just a 3-card with a stop. Can it be done with?: xxx=QJx=xx=xxxxx - If DBL'er would bid 3♥, is that forcing?: (1♦)-DBL-(P)-2♣ (P)-2♦-(P)-2♥ (P)-3♥ - Is 3♦ very strong with a ♣-fit?: (1♦)-DBL-(P)-2♣ (P)-2♦-(P)-2♥ (P)-3♦ - Is 4♥ a cue for ♣, or can it be a very strong hand with only ♥?: (1♦)-DBL-(P)-2♣ (P)-2♦-(P)-2♥ (P)-3♦-(P)-4♣ (P)-4♥ The bidding and hands: [hv=pc=n&s=s542hqj6d43ckt542&n=sakt9hakda2caj983&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=1ddp2cp2dp2hp3dp4cp4hppp]266|200[/hv]

2nd seat R/R, open vs. pre-empt
kgr replied to bd71's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
3♦ -
I don't like 2♠. It feels more like a normal TO with 4c♠. I would rather bid 2♦ or 2♥, I would go for 2♥.

Thanks for the answers. West had a 6c♠, and East ♠T9. So probably the lead was not ♠4, but ♠6. Sorry for this mistake in my OP. ...is this making rhm's more attractive? My partner did play a ♣ to ♣K and that lost to ♣A. A ♠ was returned by East. West still had the ♥A and ♣Q, so the contract could not be made anymore. I told my partner that it was better to cross in ♦ and play a ♣ from dummy (rhm's line). or another possible line we saw was to play for ♥3-3 (the other suggested line here). But it wasn't clear for us which was best.

IMP's [hv=pc=n&n=s2h86532dqj6ck752&s=saqj5hkqdak42cj63&d=s&v=0&b=1&a=2np3dp3h(no%20H-fit)p3nppp]266|200[/hv] (3♥=No ♥-fit) Opps are not good. West leads the ♠4 (4th best) for the ♠9 by East and your ♠Q. What is your plan on this hand?

I play most of the system of a strong Belgian player and this is part of it. We call it Leuvensohl (our club is in Leuven). (1H)-DBL-? 1S: nat 1NT: Leuvensohl (weak or 4cS) 2C/2D: Nat, 7-10 2H: 11+, no 4cS, no stop 2S: 5cS, Invite 2NT: Nat, no 4cS (1H)-DBL-(P)-1NT (P)-2C-(P)-? - Pass/2D: weak - 2H: 11+, 4cS, no stop - 2S: 11+, 4cS, stop BTW: You can find more bids related to this on http://bss2html.atspace.cc/ by loading <My System> and ticking "Competitive", "Disable undefined bids" and "they open"

Open Gambling, 1C or PAss?
kgr replied to kgr's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
This hand was bid by someone else and discussed at the bar. The bidding at the table was a Pass with this hand and did go like: P-(1S)-P-(1NT) 3S-(P)-? Axx=Axx=Axxxxx=x This hand did bid 4D and it did go all pass. 6D was a good contract. An other player said that he liked the Pass followed by 3S. I thought opening gambling is better. -
MP's [hv=pc=n&s=s2h2dj642cakq8642]133|100[/hv] We had a discussion, therefore the question: What do you open?: 1C, Pass, gambling (your choose of 3NT/3S), 3C? Does it make a difference if you are dealer, 2nd, 3rd?

A Belgian Movie: "Calvaire". Google "calvaire dance scene", it will give you an idea of the obscurity.

I'm trying to focus on every hand. One of the best tips I saw on BBF was hand visualisation by counting distributions. I try to do that, but in practice I'm only doing this on 1/4th of the hands. I realize that focus is the best way to improve my bridge, but I'm not doing it good enough :(
-
True, but ducking the ♦Q if even easier? I wonder why I can't do this at the table
-
I misplayed these two hands and I think it should be obvious to play them better. The play is not expert, but I hope some expert can give me a clue why I'm doing this wrong and how to do this better. In both hands the opps did give me a possibility to make the contract. Both are buttler. [hv=pc=n&s=sj972hq52d642caq2&n=sqt83hak3dat3ct93&d=n&v=0&b=11&a=1cp1sp2sppp]266|200[/hv] West did lead a small ♥. I decided to play ♥A, play a small ♠ from dummy, hoping West would return another ♥, then playing another ♠ from dummy and hope for an end-play. This worked: - ♥A - Small ♠ from dummy for West's ♠K - ♥ for ♥K - Small ♠ from dummy winning in hand (East ducked with Axx). EDIT: I cashed HQ before playing D. - Small ♦: West took ♦K and I ducked. - West returned ♦Q. => I took ♦Q with the A and played ♣T from dummy. Afterwards I realized that I should have ducked again. Probably I was too convinced that West had ♦KQ. West had: Kx=xxxx=KQx=KJxx next deal: [hv=pc=n&s=sjt942ht62dq2cqt2&n=saq63ha73dj753ckj&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1n2d(Multi%20Landy)p2hpp2s]266|200[/hv] West did lead his singleton ♥. I took the Ace in dummy, played ♣K from dummy taken by West with the ♣A. West returned a ♣, I took this in hand... and finished ♠. I didn't even think to play the 3th ♣ and discard a ♥ from dummy. Why is my play at the table so much worse then I should be able? I try to focus, but it feels like I could do better. Maybe I'm too lazy :(. These two hands came after each other. The hand before I did go down in 3NT with ♥KT opposite ♥Jx, a small ♥ lead and taking the wrong decision. I don't think this mis-decision influenced the play of the above hands, but maybe the disappointment was somehow influencing my focus.

1♦-(2♣)-? Here we also use transfer (loosing the natural 2♦): - 2♦: xfer ♥ (weak or GF) - 2♥: xfer ♠ (weak or GF) - DBL: Take-out Other bids we use here: - 2♠: Weak, 5c♠, 4c♦ - 2NT: very weak with ♦-support - 3♣: Inv+ with ♦-support - 3♦: 6-9 with ♦-support - 3♥/3♠: Invite with 6-card ♥/♠

Ok, thanks. Makes sense

Double jump when partner doubles for take out
kgr replied to Hanoi5's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
Do you mean?: Our agreement is that all jumps are weak. I would bid 3♠ or 4♠ (probably 3 at MPs and 4 at IMPs)
