  1. Maybe I am not good at MP, I would bid 6D.
  2. I feel the pain after responder bid 5D over 4NT (assume 03-14-2-2). 5S? afraid of pd pass; 5NT? K asking. Well, I think I would bid 7H anyway. Even if pd didn't have HQ, he might have 6 Hs, or HQ might be dropped under HAK.
  3. I consider myself an aggressive bidder. But on that hand, I am not sure I would bid 3C voluntarily.
  4. This time I don't agree with Justin. I think (voluntary) 3C is OK. After all, both minors need support. North after 3C, with 6-card reasonable ♠ suit, ♥ stopper and ♦ support, has a hard time to choose a bid. So I wouldn't blame 3S too much. But 4D was a gross underbid, with Kxxx support when South is marked with 6+ Ds.
  5. Justin, we have different standard. Your hand does not qualify for 3C (and 4S) imo.
  6. 3C a little strech but OK. After South's 3S, North had to bid 4S to show S support. After North's 4S, South could RKC with all controls on 3 suits (Aces in minors and stiff H) and extra card in S. Whether or not to go to grand is another issue.
  7. I would not that master-minded and just bid 4H.
  8. Yes, that's why I voted for 6C. SA, DAK(and xxx) and stiff are gold when pd bid 5C by himself. This is better than a typical 15 hcp hand.
  9. So we minority won the board (bidding to 6C).
  10. 1) no brainer 3♣, imo 2) Agree with Fluffy, I would switch to ♥x. After all, pd's double showed a major, didn't it?
  11. Thanks for all the responses. I opened 2NT at the table, which surprised my pd. I have been an advocator of opening NT with 5-card major. I even "invented" it 20 years ago before I got any related books/articles. While my pd is totally against it. We talked about this issue (merely 1NT) a few times but no agreement was reached. This was the first time he saw me to open 2NT with 5-card major, and he asked me in a very surprised tone "was this (opening 2NT with 5-card major) your invention, too?". I told him that most experts would open 2NT with my hand and I don't need to invent it anymore. The reason to post this hand is to open his eyes about 2NT (and 1NT) opening with 5-card major.
  12. This is the first time I got all the blame. There must be a conspricy here. :) I was sitting North, we have played a few hundreds of boards. Though we agreed that 2♠ does not guarantee 6+, for the hands we played as I remember, we took it as 6+. I didn't think of 2S, but decided to bid 2NT after all with 5332 distribution. After 3C (2C is game forcing as you can guess from sequence, otherwise I would have passed 3C), I did think of 4C as well. But I was afraid of by-passing 3NT with my aceless hands and 3Qs. Finally, if I held South's hand, I would rebid 3H (surprise, only one person mention that) after North's 2N. IMO, thought North denied 4-card of ♥, 3♥ would still be good, showing an unbalanced hand and suggested long C as well. So if a clone of mine sit South, we would not reach 3NT.
  13. I watched the play. Pass seems forcing because opp's 5H was obviously a sac. Yet I talked to Mike that pass could be passed out and dbl is better.
  14. With ♠QJT8x, ♥AQx, ♦KTx, ♣AK. Would you open 1S or 2NT (20-21). What if ♦T was replaced my ♦J (if you think the real hand can not upgrade to 20 hcp)?
  15. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=skq973hq72d975ckq&s=sajha653d4caj8652]133|200|Scoring: IMP Bidding went: N -- S 1S - 2C 2N - 3C 3N - all passed[/hv] 3NT wend down 1 but 6C was makeable (cold).
  16. Don't try to always rely on simulation, which doesn't apply here. How would you simulate hands with consideration of all bids, especially 5♠?
  17. Thanks for all the responses. I will take new suit at 3-level as forcing from now on.
  18. I find this kind of HCP oriented thought disturbing. Opener could have ♠Jxx, ♥xx, ♦AKQ(J)x, ♣AKx, or ♠xxx, ♥Kx, ♦AKQxx, ♣AKx, or ♠Jxx, ♥Kx, ♦AKQxxx, ♣AJx, or ♠Jxx, ♥Kx, ♦AKxxx, ♣AKx, or .......
  19. I am surprised that why nobody here mentioned 4♠ by opener. After all, he has limited his hand by 2NT. There is nothing wrong to bid 4S and let pd take control.
  20. I was South. I was disappointed when I saw dummy. My pd, used to be pro (we played 30 boards in the previous night and that's it), said that it was common sense that 3H is forcing. Since (1S)-2C-(P)-2H wouldn't be forcing, 3H in that sequence being forcing is not that clear to be without discussion. I tried to show a hand that was stronger than direct 4H.
  21. [hv=d=w&v=n&n=s9xhxdkqxxckqxxxx&s=skxhakqjxxxxdjxcj]133|200|Scoring: IMP West dealt and opened 2S and bidding went: W -- N -- E -- S (2S)-3C-(P)-3S (P)-4C-(P)-4H (P)-5C-(P)-5H All Passed[/hv] 1) Who was more responsible for the overbid? 2) Is 3H directly over 3C by South forcing or not?
