  1. If you bid 3♦, partner bids 3NT. Is the matter closed? No. I would pull to 4♣ to show slam interest.
  2. Any club would do. At second club (Q or 3), West plays ♣K and continues 3rd ♣ for East to (over) ruff. ------------- You are right. If East pitches C8, South could cash 3rd trump and then CA and small C...
  3. That was my thought as well. While I was writing, I found that East could pitch ♣ as well.
  4. Totally agree. I also agree with Hongjun that East better bid 2♠ if EW didn't play NFB.
  5. That is double dummy. But what if South had ♦J9 doubleton? BTW, at ritong's table, ♥K won a trick but still finished down 1.
  6. The slam is not that bad. But the actual cards, you would finish down 1 with good defense, say, North didn't cover pd's ♥Q.
  7. I totally DISagree, luis. disaster is one thing, ignoring partner is another. I believe (almost) all top players have some kinds of unwilling mistakes. By passing a forcing bid he means, "partner, I have better judgement than you do. Even this is 100% forcing, but I don't believe you". Bridge is not all about winning, it's more about partnership.
  8. declarer has majors, pd has minors. lead trump and cut ruffing power.
  9. I play. At trick 2, play ♥Q (or J). 1) If South Ducks, finesse ♦. 1A) Assume South covers ♦Q, ♦A on dummy and ♦ back to J. At trick #5, play ♥9 (or 6) to ward dummy. 1AA) If South ducks again, win with ♥10 on dummy and keep playing ♦s... 1AB) If South wins with ♥K, win any black return (or ♥ with 10 on dummy), cash (or ♥6 to ♥10) and keep playing ♦s... 1B) If South doesn't cover ♦Q with K, cash ♥A and ♦ to dummy, then keep play ♦s 2) If South wins ♥K, win any return. Clear ♦ suit, and 3rd trump to dummy and cask good ♦s.
  10. 6D is a very good contract. you didn't make it?
  11. It could be that meck held ♥ and ♠ two suiters (6-4, maybe), while pd had ♦s. meck regretted when his pd bid 5♥ where he didn't want to be. To lead trump seems right to me.
  12. I NEVER respond with ZERO hcp and VIOD (or stiff) on pd's opening suit. If I do, however, respond (which actually happened occassionally) with zero hcp, I would have a fit with opening suit.
  13. I (almost) never respond 1♠, with 3♥s and 4♠s and of strength only for 2♥ raise, when pd opens 1♥. When I respond 1♠ with 3 card of ♥s support, my hand is at least good for game invitational.
  14. Agree completely. 3S would show a hand of 6+ (more likely 7) ♠ with at most 6 HCP, similar to a WJS hand.
  15. Pass Ditto Good/bad 2nt and 1Club opening is as fine as an evening spring breeze at the US Open here in NC. :P PASS as well.
  16. You will not be out there for long by yourself. Pass is my choice too. Me, 3
  17. If my pd passed my 2C opening without apology and good reason (was away, friend bid it for me, with online bridge; distracted, too tired), I wouldn't trust him anymore, and I would consider if still want this partner. But I did passed pd's forcing bid twice, as I remember. The first time was looooooong time ago when I passed my pd's precision 1C. Fortunately, we got some imps on this board because the "right" contract of 4S would fail due to trump 4-0 break. My pd knew I was tired. The second time was a month ago (I had a post on BBO here) playing with a pd I didn't trust. I passed her cue-bid of opp's opening suit (♣). And I judged right. Hadn't I passed, we would get dbled on any other contract.
