After suffering with GIBBO, perhaps otherwise too, I try not to do such reverses with 5422. any 5431 15+ yes. In the given deal 17 hcp and 5+ clubs I open 1c and then 2NT. Has worked quite well. It also gets me in the region where GIB continuations are well defined. Learned the hard way. Perhaps the adage :know your partner" holds true. vrock

3D of course is abysmal. How about West passing 2NT? I tread on eggs when GIBBO does such things and go for the safest (i.e. smallest penalty) option. vrock

I misspoke about game being missed. I was concerned only with why no 2NT overcall. Apologies for saying game had been missed. What I do after a correct 2NT is up for grabs based on how I feel. It is not IMPs or MPs where I would pass in a flash. In money bridge I might have taken my chances depending on the weather. I think here 2NT-3C is stayman isn't it so no worries about missing 4H if it is there. Methinks if GIB had a third spade would have bid 2NT. Weird but...... vrock

People in the know are stating quite aggressively that simulations are done only by advanced GIBBO or in rare cases where the bidding has advanced quite a bit and it has to make "hard" decisions. It rarely takes finesses. It mostly goes for strip squeeze and endplay type of scenarios. Based on GIBBO's actions, my understanding is GIBBO was designed for endcases. vrock
