No, i don't think so (my opinion is that is better 1NT 16-18 than 12-14 weak NT and to remain in Stayman the author explain both (you choise what you prefer in according of your style of play). I think that "adversion" (let me say so) depends a beginner is more sure to play trump than NT(.. that required controlls in every suit ). For this aim i suggest "Total Bridge" by Bertrand Romanet on planning (so fear will be away), bye.

I suggest Stayman that i use (The complete Stayman sisteme in modern contract bidding) but i had to say : this book is not recent (1955) but the system is clear also for bidding in defence, is based on 5th major, is not complicated to understand, Stayman is the author of 1 NT (original version) that nowaday has a lot of variation, the system explain you a good method of evalutation of your hand (simply to learn) is then an homogeneous system that can serve like a point of starting to understand mechanics of natural bidding (i don't know if there is a more recent printing) for a novice before to study artificial systems (more complicated).

I don't understand your fear : you such as must not bid 7 (in this case probably your have right) but (jumping) 6NT and partner close to 7 with 2 Ace but also ' cause in spade N have 3 honors and then the suit is ok (S has almost K) Points are sufficent for 7NT also counting from N opposite 2♣ opening bid.(Lovera)

I suggest : S 2♣ - N 4 NT (quantitative=11/12 points, balanced hand). Let's note that S has an half balanced hand (5-4-2-2) for a(probable) diamond bidding and jump to 6 ♦ invite to 7 (also for 6 NT). About points : N must have almost an Ace (with 11 p.), then ..

Perhaps i have had right to say so : infact let' s look at the hand and its points to bid 4♠ seems to me insufficent..

This hand (the second among my posts) recall me another one in which two suit are just and two are changed: that is the why i'm waiting to see the 13th card in North (please).

This simply consideration done has started (toghether other ones) my valutation of the hand based on a (light) variation of that made by S. Stayman (maximum points in 4-3-3-3 is 37 for 13 tricks in NT ..)

At single dummy ( but you already know [= read able to see]) you recognize some positions ending of compound squeeze and because in spade there is not comunation 10 ( card of high value often ) is unilateral (required) in favourable (R=right) position then we cash diamonds minus one to know at which double squeeze ending to get and in this way the hand has to be thinked ; furthemore with 10 there is a winner that recall situation of compound squeeze with alternate minace . Then we act consequently step by step up-to-date the initial hypothesis.

But the intetest of this hand is also for situation in heart that (we can see) is type "squeeze of impasse" (an honor on left two on right) let's allow to recuperate the (good) opening leads that has reducted communications (one way to South). Infact 2 against 3 we had to discard club instead heart (out of consideration already done for reciprocal - 3 cards balanced - double squeeze on club discard by East).
