  1. (Again a good example is ♠KQxxx ♥x ♦AJxx ♣xxx opposite a 1NT opening. Note that this can get you to better game contracts as well as slams (give partner ♠xx ♥Qxx ♦KQxx ♣AKQx and there is no slam, but we'd rather play 5♦ than 3NT even at MP.=) At this propose was invented by Stayman a convenction to realize fit in minor suit not excluding to play 3NT if conditions were. The convenction starts with 2♦ asking for sure stopper(s) in major suits and with both ones bidding 2NT (otherwise indicating stopper i.e. 2♥ stopper in heart but not in spade). In this case bidding could be : 1NT - 2♦, 3♣ - 3♦, 5♦ all pass. For ultherior indications see in "Find my content" either "- 1080 don't.." or "Stayman".
  2. Althoug North after diamond J for Ace must play all its hearts and have a possibility of fullfil the contract with a pseudosqueeze in the minor (if West unblock diamonds).(Lovera)
  3. I think at this time being RKCB a convenction that substuites classical Blackwood its applicability must be clearly definited to avoid misunderstanding with partner considering all case of bidding possible and establishing rules to say if is or not RKCB (and in that case considering 4NT how quantitative) otherwise holding ambiguity may not be helpful and to be a point of weakness for RKCB, bye.
  4. It'd a correct bidding with chicane in heart and Qxx in spade but with two Aces and (let's say) more a King (1/2 trick) is not good for a pre-empt and also 2♣ is wrong because we have more losers (x 5) than points.
  5. There is a second ending if you leads A and K of spade after A of heart on Queen and run three top diamonds getting to a (secondary) three losers delayed duck criss-cross squeeze: on Jack W is forced to descard an heart, last diamond pitching 8 of spade (on club discart) and you can win a return to realize last heart winner (after little for King and 9 for W's 10). But we have sureness only in heart (sequence) and spade and able to read a 5-4-2-2 and not for club King position: in this case if King is in East W on last two diamonds will descart two clubs and you can impasse ( you always retain cards in suit for this eventuality ). (Lovera)
  6. Interesting this hand: there is a triple squeeze for W (heart Q from a sequence takes K9 against J10 and if club K is in W too..). After that spade K pitch J is consequential to play A getting to spade 8 against 9.
  7. Many wishes for the holiday season to all those I met on this site talking about various topics was hoping to be useful but the most important thing for the company that raises something more futile, hello wishing still many beautiful things that make us happier.
  8. However 2♦ (forcing manche) asks to 1NT(15-17) bidder if there are sure stopper(s) in major suit doesn't excuding to play 3NT if partner has it in both suits (response 2NT),bye
  9. It'd seem that an answere to your (we don't have a method..) can be found if you use Stayman for a minor suit fit ( see my post in "Stayman.." in Novice.." forum ).
  10. But squeeze doesn't work if spades are divided from hearts and clubs. About bidding Reese convention require a compact suit like here diamonds needing only three cards on support (here Qx) asking contemporrally for Ace but probably does not convenue between them and also most players prefer rever than to bid 2♣.
  11. Perhaps is not this the just topic but (being Stayman) however never is told about 2♦ Stayman to find fit in a minor suit ? 1NT (15-17) - 2♦(=when partner has void or a singleton generally in a major suit) asking if opener has a stopper in one or both of major suits. I can continue if interested but this convention is in the book "Do you play Stayman" edit by Odyssey Press of New York.(Lovera)
  12. I don't know if it can be considered a mistake and as far as possible to think by me it but, as i have said, i was interested to analyzer the hand because the play was ended and i had only seen that were 7 easy diamonds to play(but difficultose to bid using Reese yet) and if a second suit plus heart was controlled from an opp and if there were conditions for a squeeze (infact there are others two possibilities) in NT contract, bye.
  13. Hallo, i use 1NT 16-18 ( but think it's the same for weak NT): in Stayman 1 NT is doubled in two ways 1) X=balanced with pair force 2) 2♣= idem with unbalanced hand (here it could be). So standing things probably you don't have considered void (and with two Ace and more three cards in trump..). Althoug a defence with this good hand and fit could be found, bye.
  14. "... formulation of two rules that are the pillars of the preempt [ 3 or higher level] declaration: a) the hand should not contain more than 1 and a half likely tricks defensive; b) .."(pag. 198 of Stayman system) ... The requirements for the two weak opening bidding are: 1) a hand that is not good for a bidding of one color; * [When, in the face of a declaration to NT, the value of the hand goes to13 points] 2) a good suit , generally of six cards; 3) form five to seven tricks on according of vulnerability. ... Example 23: South ♠ KQ10864 ♥ 9 ♦ A742 ♣ 63 North ♠ A7 ♥ K953 ♦ KQ86 ♣ 542 Bidding 2 ♠ - 2 NT, 3 ♦*- 4♠ *3♦ bidding shows a good hand . With this sureness being force in diamonds of rilevant value for South partner gets directly manche in spade. (pagg. 206, 207 and 208 of Stayman system). About valutation i prefer to consider Losing Tricks Courtney and (eventually) plastic valutation of hand (+/- 1 point, +/- 1 card) instead rule of 19 or 20.(Lovera)
  15. Thanks, yes was board 12: when there i asked "why not 2 clubs opening bidding ?" Fourthemore there are 7 diamonds and how i thinked a squeeze ♠ - ♥ simple (twin entry recessed) against South or a simple-as-double too.
  16. Hallo, yesterday was kib when sillafu played 6NT with pisoy (Team susi) : how can i do to see again this hand? Thanks and bye.
  17. It's more probable that clubs are 4- 2 in East and that West had heart Ace without Queen (this squeeze ending it's easier to see if you inverted cards of North with South) diamonds are both opp controlled and in hearts there is a situation similar in trump squeeze.. but here used in NT play. In this case 4th club in East serve to obblige to descard diamond. Infact if West descard diamond too you have last diamond winner otherwise the ending is on according descard of East dropping Queen for King for Ace and return for winner Jack (this is the lonely ending i know of a delayed squeeze with a double menace).(Lovera)
  18. East with his simply 2NT has underbid terribly the hand: infact West's hand is valutable in 18 points and to think to a slam needs almost 10 points more a surplus in trump (probable). Now here is a grand with two ruff of clubs catching Queen offside for 13 tricks but East bidding doesn't allow to think otherwise West with RKCB1430 could almost to get to a little slam knowing 3 keycards and Queen + King of heart, bye.
  19. You can have information about King bidding directly 6 ♠=have the King ? If positive N bids 6 NT(=i have the King of spade at any aside) otherwise 7♣ denies the King. Only so you can have the information to use in subsequent contract level (i. e. 6NT of N to play 7NT)
  20. This is an hand where if void is not signalled (4♣ instead 4♥) you can have information of void : 4NT ? 5 ♦=1 keycard with RKB0314 (to prefer if trump is clubs) 5 ♥ ? for Queen 5 NT yes with a void .. as i have indicated in (see) "RKC 0314".(Lovera)
  21. At limit(=borderline bidding?) You have 12 tricks (at double dummy) because may discard a diamond on spade Ace then ruffing third and also considering that your (balanced) hand is valutable 35 points and more there are 4 aces..is justify to think at grand (with 10 ♣ in East..) but as i have said once this is the case to bid 6 and eventually sign + 1. Furthemore 3♦ is the only bidding of North (8/+ points) and if in spade there is a queen ?
  22. On the same line of a void.. this hand : South ♠ A K Q 9 6 3 ♥ x x x ♦ A 9 8 6 ♣ - North ♠ 10 8 7 5 4 2 ♥ - ♦ K x ♣ 10 9 8 7 5 (from "Contract Bridge Complete" by Ely Culbertson). With crossed-ruffing plain of play there are 7♠ ( but to get it are used the New Asking Bids to know situation in hearts, diamonds and trump). Here, exchanging Queen with 10 in spade, it allows to reveal information of void (5NT) and to have indirectly its position: 6♣ ?=have a void in clubs ? (not probable) 6♦=cue bid for King in diamonds (not having void) as in RKCB and than void in hearts for 7♠ (but we don't know that in diamonds North has a doubleton!).
  23. This hand makes me to think: when opened 2♣, 2♦-2♠ and not excluding 2NT(= balanced 9-10 points) that allows us to figure as is it. The problem is if in spade we have the King or not (and in this case a type of cue bid in heart helps to know it.
  24. A precisation on my post n. 37: obvoiusly when you ask for Queen you bid 5♠ and not 5♥(=sign-off) and, also, this answere is reserved to indicate Queen+King of spade but the apparent ambiguity there is not when your partner bids 6 of trump because denying void indirectly sure to have King of spade with Queen of trump(=heart).
  25. Then to riassume: when are 3 keycards and a void partner indicates void and you know location of it, with minus of 3 you know there a void is but you don't know where is but you simply may ask cue bidding.. At this aim i have (little) changed a (i think known) hand where is a grand in heart: West has ♠ J 7 5 3 2 ♥ A K 10 6 ♦ A K ♣ A 5 and East has ♠ - ♥ Q J 9 5 2 ♦ 7 4 ♣ K J 8 6 4 3 trump suit is heart RKCB1430 bidding goes 4NT ? 5♦=0keycards 5♠(=query for Queen) and subsequent 5NT reveal a void plus Queen now ( at this level you authorized partner to bid 7 ) if you bids 6 ♥ this meaning if partner has a (useful) void in spade bids 7 ♥ infact you may ask cue bidding where void is in this way (such as if you are intersted in club bids 6 ♣ meaning=have a void in club? If yes partner bids 7 if not bids 6 of trump.
