  1. If i understand correctly what Luis is doing is a controlled psyc. That is when passed hand a redouble can be a bid to disctuct or the normal redouble, partner is suppose to bid naturally but not to get too exited, and if ill make a later heart support he suppose to understand i wasnt serious about my redouble. I feel like he began to tell a secret and regret it at the last second left us all curios. B)
  2. Actually this MAF isnt too crazy, it doesnt give that much credit to the major as one could think reading the name, infact i lately i thought of some major first system structers and all of them are giving much more credit to the majors then maf. I believe majors (and maybe more spade then heart) systems might be the next generation in bidding ,i know that during the history of bridge there have been some systems like that and one might think if they didnt catch during all those years they are probebly not worth it, but i believe something has change , today bidding tend to be more competitve then before, and in competitve the majors (and especially spade) shine as being the higher ranking suits.
  3. HI Does anyone here have some expirence with MAF of have an opinion about it ?
  4. If you like cue bidding to your slam you might consider playing 4nt as something other then blackwood, using Turbo is a good way. What you are saying makes alot of sense, but not sure you can find a better "blackwood" way, because sometimes the cue bid is a sgl and sometimes its an ace or void or K.
  5. I play ovious shift which is almost attitude only, i had enough years of experience with those 3 ways of signals and i think you can live pretty well with just atitude and count on rare predefine sutiuations.
  6. if its not a forcing pass then: 3. you have a clear double, your hand is not even close to any other bid even with this vulnerability. with 5-5 you might think about it. if it is a forcing pass i'll use it. and pass.
  7. Brian, your beggining of the analyse is very well but you didnt continue with it. a good pair will normally have 60-65%, so they can gain 35-40% or lose 60-65%, if they use something like mini NT they dicress their ways to influence on the board, because many times the result will be set because of system differences, for example if they get to play 1nt while the rest of the field is playing 3H then its less up to them if they will get a good or bad score here.
  8. Brain when you play vs a weak field you should try to play with the field unless you have a good resson not to, for this resson playing mini NT against a weak field is a mistake. In general i try to make my system to work for me in the best field possible, i like to make convention that will work (for me :) ) in the world championship.
  9. Interesting Flame - WHY do you thing that opening 15-17 NT tells opps they dont have a game? -----IF in 1ST position MAYBE your pard has a COMPLETE bust(?) in which case opps HAVE a possible game on an KNOW where 15-17 points are :) Opening 12 - 14 NT MIGHT allow opps to show points AND/OR dist if you open in 1st position ( my reg P in f2f bridge play a LOT of ACOL {12-14 NT openers} and play CAPPELLETTI against them - NOV vul Capp COULD be 4/4 in the suits shown[ and is on our CC] AND that has worked out well for us ) BUT I can see where it MIGHT not work in casual partnerships  I think that the RANGE of opening NT bids NOT as important as the structure of the REST of possible bids over 1NT  When one of my opponents have a balanced 15-17 all my bidding system will never seek for game because game is very rare, we might get tro game when we are pushed. yes we might miss a game in few years but wev gain alot more.
  10. Those K leads are great but with 6 card suit, with 5 if the Q is sgl then opener will have 4 card suit and another stoper.
  11. Hey guys stop the fightings ;) I think its all good points. I hope to see more ressons, what is good with weak or bad with strong and vs versa. for example with uncontested aution which method would lead to finidng more fits ?
  12. Thxs I thought it might be something like this.
  13. ok, last question then i'll bury this dead horse... since opener's 3C wasn't a game force in and of itself (but became so because of his 3H bid), what should he have bid to stop below game, after the X was passed to him? a redouble? thanks 3♣ was a general cue that will try to define its perpose on the next bid and then it will show, i have this shape and stronger then i could have bid it directly, in the 3 level most of the time he wont find another bid but thats the genral way. so if you cue bid and then support you show a hand that was too good to support in a non cue bids way, this mean a hand stronger then 2h and 3h, which can be considered GF maybe, but the tatle GF isnt the main thing, the point is that its better then any direct bid you could give for your type of hand, and when it happend to be a support (knowing that when you bid 3h) we know how strong it must be. I'll give you another example to clear this u. (1♦) D p 2♦ your cue bid can mean many things, usually only after the next bid partner will know how strong you are, if for example you will bid a new suit on the next bid he will know that you have that suit and stronger then showing it directly with a jump. if you support diamond next partenr will know you are stronger then any direct support you have in your system, and if he bid NT partner will know you are streonger then the direct NT bids.
  14. Please give ressons to support either range. I'll give one resson for now, I dont like it when i open a strong NT i tell my opponents that they dont have a game and make things much easier for them, if i open a 12-14 they still have to look for game and cant just show shape.
  15. again very ovious and probebly been discussed before but maybe it wont hurt to do it again. When you click on a table and waiting for a permission, why arent there a cancel buttom, and your only way out is to get out of BBO. There are other cases where it seems like BBO is trying to get ride of me, like when you click the X buttom you expect it to have the same function as the BACK buttom but instead it kills everything, i think a function that is more windows way meaning a cancel or close will always close the last window or tast you asked to do is more intuative.
  16. You have a ten card fit, I would put this hand in the sucessfull hands because he had 10 card fit and didnt sell it low. I dont judge bye a single score, and happy when i bid what my TT tell me.
  17. "6-5-2-0 is better than 6-5-1-1" Im not an autority by IMHO ;) this is right.
  18. What are you going to bid over partner's 3D reebid ? Are you giving up on the excelet chances for a major game here ?
  19. Its all depend on what the 3c bid show, if its a genral strong with or without support then 3h is a minimum hand that have nothing better to bid meaning no stoper or a second suit to show. After the double east has the extra choice of passing and he will use it unless he got something to show, i wouldnt take the pass to show extra here, but to show lack of better bid, usually with ouly 4 hearts and no stoper.
  20. Can you exapain this to a novice like me, what are your criteria for a redouble ?
  21. 3♥ not because i'm weak but because thats what partner wanted when he made the double which is t/o short in diamonds. if for example i had XX XXX XXXX XXXX then i would take it out not of a choice but because i know 2nt will make with overtricks.
  22. This question is answered in Free's first message. It shows 8 or less hcp.
  23. He mean when playing negative free bids, then 2h is 0-8 and not forcing.
