Question about alerts policy on BBO
Flame replied to Flame's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Thanks Ben and evenryone else. I conclude reading everything that there isnt an obligation to give alert (and i think its right because there is no good resson to make online bridge different then offline for this matter) but i will probebly give alerts most time. -
About these example. The first one, i would like a hand estimating machine to tell me that these hands is 6.8, because there are 13 tricks here, Id give the system 100% here. hand 2 - oviously the system is wrong giving it only 0.0 hand 3 - i think 4.6 is a bit higher but not too much.

Question about alerts policy on BBO
Flame replied to Flame's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I think the key word their is parnership, im talking when there is no partenership agrement. And about what free said if its clear then its clear to both p and opps and if not then to non of them. Not taking stand on this, i gave the info, but i am not sure that this is right. -
OMG I can't believe how far people streach the prempltive bids. This hand has nothing to do with a prempltive weak jump. not a long suit. balanced not a one suiter. bad ODR Ace in the suit and lower honors in the outside suits. I'm sorry but if you were my partner this hand was probebly our last one together. why dont you double with such a hand. >I can't believe how far people streach the premptive bids. >This hand has nothing to do with a premptive weak jump. >not a long suit. balanced >not a one suiter. What does a single suited hand have to do with preempting? I would happily open the hand in question with 2Ds. Don't see anything wrong with a 2S weak jump overcall ;-) In all seriousness I am a firm believer in so-called assumed fit preemptive styles. Plaeyer's should immediately bid their hands to their expected limit ASSUMING that partner has an average hand for the auction so far. This places MUCH more pressure on the opponents, however, it requires that partner is on the same wavelength and won't take action with an average hand. Extremel version of pre-balancing, thats all... Maybe you are a new player but not so long ago prempltives were done on one good suiter hands like - KQ10XXX and QJ10xxx being the worse. I agree that this method isnt necassrly the best, but that was a premptive, now people starting to streach it and your example is the least premptive hand i have seen so far. There are few things i can say to axplain why this is imo wrong 1. premptive in your way is no longer showing a suit to lead. 2. you have large duplication with other bids, in this example , 1h and Double and pass , would all be far more suitable for your hand then 2h (imo). 3. the risk of being double, you may say "who double a 2 level these day ?" for that i have 2 answers: A. when u bid 2h with your hand, you will bid 3h with little more and 4h with little more then that, or else p will not know what you have, and therefore if not on the 2 level, you will get double on the three/four level. B. today most peple use lots of TO doubles, this is called the modrn way, the resson this TO approach took the place of the PDs is because our opponents didnt give us good PD appotiunites, they used to premptive with good 6 card on level 2 and good 7 card on level 3. now when the premptives are getting more and more agressive, it will take time, but i believe people will start using more PDs. (and then people will go back to be more concervative and so on).

Hope to read this book one day. My squesse technic is far from good. and breaking squeeses is almost always behoyd my diffenses abilities.

Hi Ben I have a question for you. I'v seen your play lines on many hands and you oviously know your squeses and use them alot on the forum questions hand, sometimes it seems very complex, i wonder if you use so many sqeeze on the table too. And one reauest to anyone who read this, i notice that Luis didnt post for a while, if you know him pls ask him to posts again, I learn alot from his posts.

1. 3♣ checkback, partner can still have 4 cards in spade. (3d if playing nmf) 2. I would bid 4sp, but 3sp is good too.

It's a combination of both of them. People false-card all the time, but odd of them both to falsecard on the same hand. Having said that, I don't agreewith the general lines given above. To keep it short, let's look at Free's line. "Small ♠ to block their suit, Ace the 2nd time they play the suit. If west has Qxx he either has to unblock the Q giving you your J, or keep his Q and block te suit... Getting to 9 tricks in the other suits seems pretty easy. Play ♥A and, ♣A and small ♣ to the J. If you lose to the Q, you can still use the 8 to get to ♥K. " He is using third round of ♣ to "get" to the ♥K (♦ace would work to). The problem, is how to get back to your hand to all those lovely good ♣'s. There is the rub. Trpltrbl's cash two high ♣ and a ♥ line is better, but suffers from the same problem NO MATTER who has the ♣Q. They will lock you in dummy with a ♥ and take enough tricks to crush you. The right play is 1) Win ♠Ace immediately, and 2) Cash the ♥A, then 3) Lead a low ♣ from your hand. If west has the ♣Q, and he wins, you are home NO MATTER WHERE the ♠Q is. If East has the ♣Q, you fall back on the blocking the ♠ suit. If East leads a low ♠ and if you continue to believe that West has ♠Qxx originally, just duck now. This duck the first ♣ to dummy also protects against 4-0 ♣ split. Free will get to dummy wityh the A of diamond, and will get to hand with the club, no problem in that. As for playing small club at round 1, this will work vs 4 clubs in west's hand where my line go down. on the other side my line take one more trick where Q of club is single, and if its single at east's hand it will save the day when east has the Q of spade after all.

For this resson i prefer my partners (and i do the same) to only kibitz me, when they are dummy.
-
Why not take the A and play low on a next spade runing trugh you like i proposed?

ignore this post :D

Censorship of Forums

You asked Luis , but ill give you my answer. What i want is that when you consider censoring, emphsise that you are in a class full of people who you know, they are your friends but you are incharge, then someone say something which you think shouldnt have been said, if you are going to tell him something like, "you are an idiot, you have not enough brain to be able to control your tone", this is what me or anyone else feel that we are beeing sensored, if what i said was hard enough for you to umilitae me like i said before then go ahead and censored, but if in the real life you would just say to yourself, this guy is stupid, then dont censore. The point to always keep in mind is that behind every name here there is a person with feelings, so do your best not to heart him unless upsolutly necessary. -
I'll combine the 2 privious answers, like free i believe that the Qxx of spade is on my left, but ill still play the A of spade on the first round, then if later east will play spade ill put small. the resson this is a bit better is because as free played, there is a slight chance to too many diamonds on a diamond shift. so ill play like Trp for the ressons Free mentioned

I'm tempted to leave, I really don't like when you behave and talk like a cop uday. Just you dont leave, you cant emagine how many ppl are learning from you here. -
I just read your second post. lets say the bidding when 1d X and i got 5 card major, yes i would be happy to double them in this major, but the chances that this where they will land are very low. what you should consider is you overal offensive/defensive and also the simplicty of the bidding, i would always bid a 5 card major suit at the 1 level. with a minor suit which should be bid at the 2 level (lets say its forcing although i doubt many play that) i would bid any 6 card, with 5 card ill consider the suit coulity, if i have my Qs and Js in the suits ill bid it, if my Qs and Js are outside the suit i'll redouble. for more offensive distribution with 5-5 there is no doubt i would bid any with 5-4 i will anmost anways bid unless the honor are really horiable. If dont have the option to bid a minor at the 2 level and u have to go to the 3 level, i would bid a nice 6 card suit.
-
First its good when there is some duplications, for example in a system i play there are many times where 1 bid is 11-16 and the next is 16-21, sometimes in bidding there is no right and wrong , more like style and partnership understanding. The "normal" way to play is that a suit at the 1 level is forcing but at the 2 level its NF. there are more ways like trasfers, and others. What you should diside is how much ytou will gain from showing what you got, and is it better then redouble and hoping to catch them. there is no simple one condition answer that can be given here. The main thing to consider is how offensing/defensive and the vulnrabilty. Maybe you should give a list of hands you arfent sure about and we'll answer.

So many posts each one longer then the other, for a pretty simple subject. Censoring should be limit to the minimum possible, im sure everyone agree just that the creteria for when to censored differ, its legimate to ask the persons incharge to try and interfier less, this kind of remarks can only help the forum, the people incharge can benefit from knowing what the people think, no need to take it as a complain. -

I agree , censorship should be kept to minimum possible. -
Your line is definatly not stupid and maybe the best (your p was stupid to leave) I am not sure whats the best line, the problem is that its far from certain that the hearts are 3-2, the lead suggest 4-1.
-
a mistake is not pysc and they can appeal as much as they want i would consider taking their money
-
What phsyc about it ? if someone bid 2c with this its because he believe that this hand is good enough for 2c. I wouldnt bid 2c here but thats anouther story.
-
The way to check stopers is up to you and your partner to agree on but i think the normal method is to show and not to ask. About what luis said, i think 3nt chances is better (even with luis's examples) yet luis is good enough player for me to have doubts about it now.
-
In general when u have a strong hand, stronger then minimum GF and the scoring is IMP , its a good idea to check for stopers because uncase you dont have the necasary stopers a trump game can be made even without a fit due to the extra streagh (or 5 minor with a fit) this hand is strong however it contain 3 small hearts, and partner rates to have 3 of his own, those 3 against 3 will not be any good in suit contract and therfore 3nt is the best and should be bid now. (without asking or showing stopers) if hearts were shorter then it was right to continue bidding stopers.
